It's being reported that the Bills'  organization has known about this for a month. Why the "haack" did they release Matt Haack.

Because he is a bad punter? Guy was 22nd or worse in every statistic in every category in the NFL last year. We can get a guy as good or better off the street after cuts.

In Ca., it doesn't matter. A Minor, cannot consent to sex, in any capacity. Even if the girl lied, it's still a Felony. I'm just the messenger, and that is how it is. The Cops MIGHT think, that they have a sketchy witness, but now we are dealing in 'what if's'.

This is incorrect. Earlier in the post I debunked this. There is a law where if the individual did so unknowingly it is on the accuser/ law enforcement/ accusers legal team to prove beyond a doubt the individual knew the accuser was under age.

I know what Because McDermott just said - he was a good teammate.  That is why they cut him, to provide him more time to find another job.

I said he was a below average punter.

They also said Ford was one of their best olinemen this year and we all know that isn't true or we wouldn't of traded him. We have this thing about keeping our best talent.

Everything Beane and McDermott say about a player is 100% the truth take it to the bank.

But this is besides the point. I said he stunk and needed to be replaced as he was easily replaceable by someone as talented or better. So I'm happy he is gone regardless of the Araiza issue now.

And you said  he was a good team mate? Who cares? That is not a good reason to keep him.

It's still gross that as a 21 year old that he had sex with a high schooler. And it's bad judgement on his part, if I loved the game I would not risk it on a banging a high schooler even aside from it being sketchy in it of itself.

When drunk logic gets thrown out the window. Not many go get stupid drunk and plan on getting behind a wheel until they are drunk either. But it happens, and happens a lot.

Haack is a below average punter, but a very good holder.    if nothing else he was a good teammate.

The holder part of it is why Bojo is gone.  A punter can lose a game for you and so can a bad holder.   This mess effects 2 positions.   The heat of battle of a real NFL game against the SB champion Rams, the Bills may be venerable and possibly distracted.

This is mess for the team and for all parties.

That is all conjecture. How do you how good of a team mate he was? Were you on the team? If he was good a his job and not the 22nd or worse at his position last year in all punter categories he wouldn;t of been replaceable / replaced. Which he absolutely is.

This is pretty cut and dry with California state law. Hes on tape admitting to having sex with a 17 year old. That's illegal and a felony if hes over 3 yrs older than she was. There are no if, ands, or buts about it. The sooner we move on from this the better.

No he isn't or the cops wouldn't of asked her to ask him again.

Per the LA Times article -

Later in the conversation, she asked him, “And did we have actual sex?” Araiza allegedly changed his tone and replied, “This is Matt Araiza. I don’t remember anything that happened that night.”

Because the alleged rape happened before Araiza was drafted, he would not be subject to the league's personal conduct policy," ESPN reported.

This could be why the Bills aren't just canning him like many want them to as well.

If he isn;t subject tot he leagues personal policy conduct and then was cut just because of this the Bills and NFL could have a major lawsuit on their hands in regards from Araiza imo.

    huh? what claims were negated?

"According to the lawsuit, the teen told Araiza she was a high school student and, even though he could see she was highly intoxicated, he told her to perform oral sex, then had sex with her. Then Araiza took her to a bedroom where Leonard, Ewaliko and at least one other man were, the complaint alleged, and threw her down on the bed face first. The lawsuit said she was raped for an hour and a half until the party was shut down." - From LA Times Article

In that journal she says she doesn;t remember what happened after flirting. She doesn;t know how many guys were in there or who. She says she was thrown face down on the bed essentially claiming she couldn;t id anyone.

I'm not saying she is lying or otherwise but any competent defense lawyer could use this and create a million ways to use this as defense for Araiza in regards to the civil lawsuit.

I'm surprised this hasn't been shared yet.

The alleged rape victim's lawyer just released her diary from that day. I have no idea why he would do that.

It's a horrific scenario, but she also admits to being face down and not knowing who was there at the time...

A lot of the claims from her lawyer are contradicted in that journal. That was stupid of that lawyer.  If anything this may hurt their case in regards to Araiza.

Well holy *****. You better go tell the 30 players we're cutting next week that the Bills are going to "ruin" their lives, even if they didn't rape anyone.

Yes, that is the completely same scenario.. (sarcasm)

If we cut him we are essentially saying we feel he is guilty. You think the NFL would let anyone touch him with a forty foot pole at that point? Even if he is found innocent.. I am not saying he is or isn't. I'm just saying we cut him now we likely do ruin his life.

  11. 2 minutes ago, BullBuchanan said:

Who's ruining his life? No one has said that he should go to prison yet, just that he should be released from a football team.

Do you have a recorded pretext call where 1ManRaid admitted to committing crimes? Do you have physical evidence and eyewitnesses outlined in a lawsuit? If you did, I might be inclined to believe there was more to the story than a complete fabrication

I would argue being released from the football team would ruin his life. He would be losing a million dollar contract.

If you were employed and lost a million dollar salary job your life would be ruined don't you think? I know mine would be..

I don't think it matters morally, but in California the age of consent is 18 and they don't have a "Romeo & Juliet" exception.  Technically a 21 year old who has sex with a 17 year old in the Golden State is guilty of statutory rape regardless.

Again, not saying it matters, because this particular angle doesn't matter to me at all.  In most states, something like this would be legal.  CA law is just a little on the weird side.

Just looked this up since I am seeing a lot of misinformation..

What is the law in California?

In California, the age of consent is 18 years old.18 Unlike most other states, California does not have a close-in-age exception or Romeo and Juliet Law for its statutory rape laws.

However, California allows defendants facing sex crimes involving a minor to raise a mistake of fact defense. They can present evidence that they had a reasonable and actual belief that the minor was 18 or older.19 If there is sufficient evidence to prove this reasonable and actual belief, the burden shifts to law enforcement to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that it did not exist at the time of the offense.20

Essentially, they don't have the Romeo and Juliet law in California but they do have this " I didn't know they were underage law. " If you can reasonably argue you didn't know the person was under age (which he was drunk and obviously didn't card her and there are claims she told people she was 18.) it is on her / law enforcement / her legal team for burden of proof in regards to  this.

It's not as if Araiza blew Haack away. It was close in camp. Haack is a seasoned vet, was immediately picked up after getting cut. I don't see how any guy off the street is as good or better than him.

We are talking about practice / training camp. Everyone and their mother were  calling for his head all last year because he was bad. An okay training camp doesn't change the fact he ranked 22nd or worse in all punting statistics last year and helped cause us one or more lost games last year.

Regardless of what really happened - and I'm not getting into the muck one way or the other - one thing is certain:

Beane completely f'd up by cutting Haack this week.

Did he really think this would not come out?

Did he though? Haack isn't that good of a punter anyways. I feel we could get a better punter than Haack after cuts or at least similarly talented.

As far as I am concerned it shows how much trust they had in Haack as the starter that they willingly decided to roll the dice on this than cut the potential media storm issue before it happened.

Is this an actual rumour or is this your own thought ? If this were to actually happen, I’d be all for the ball being in someone else’s hands besides Mahomes.

Can't hold the ball from the sidelines on IR. When healthy he is a stud for sure but he hasn;t played in a full season since 2018.

I saw a lot of Fantasy sites say there will likely be no drop off from Beasley to Crowder. Claiming they have a similar play style. Not exactly saying "under the radar" but Beasley was very productive for us. Here is one of those tweets I saw at the time of the signing.

Do not underestimate the role that Jamison Crowder can carve out with the Bills. He is taking over the slot role, previously had by Cole Beasley. Crowder can become a target monster in this role. Beasley had 10 double-digit target games in the last 2 seasons.

I’m calling it now. Josh Allen will make WRs like Crowder and Austin very serviceable this year. Austin is making this 53 man roster.

    Diggs

    Davis

    McKenzie

    Crowder

    Austin

    Shakir

    Kumerow

    Cut: Hodgins, Stevenson

Crowder has been serviceable under every qb all of which have been trash compared to Josh. He has been called by many pundits the under the radar best signing of the offseason. Especially with Josh's proclivity to like to pass to the slot wr a lot. Though that may have been because we didn;t have any good check down recieving rbs which may have been solved this draft.

No offense to Tre but I don't think we need him to win a Super Bowl. As  long as Von is as good as advertised the increased pass rush / pressure put on the qb will make the corners jobs a lot easier as they will have to cover way less time.

It's not just the ACL, word there is meniscus damage and he wont be ready to return until october/november, almost a full calendar year.

Not to mention this is the last year with Hyde & Poyer over top.

Championship windows close fast & we pissed away 2020 & 2021

If only we had an elite qb and offense so we didn't have to rely only on our defense to win every game we play.. Oh wait..
