Appreciate the article being shared. I agree that it is confusing as to why Butch Byrd has not been added to the Wall. He was the recipient of the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Distinguished Service Award back in 1994, but many of the other winners have also been named to the Wall of Fame.

@RyanTalbotBills Great article that I thought would create some good dialogue here.  In all actuality though, do you think it’s realistic for Bennett to go on the Wall in 2019?

I think there would be some major backlash given the off the field stuff that happened in Buffalo year ago.

I'm kinda surprised Rueben Brown dosnt get mentioned more for this. He may be a little over rated but I think he made 8 pro bowls

Yep a solid resume for sure.  I think towards the end of his stint he was one of those linemen that get into the Pro Bowl based on name value alone.  But then again he was an All Pro in Chicago once he left too

This is easy to me (keep in mind I wasn’t alive for Byrd). Bennett was the best of the LBs and the 2nd best defensive player on those Bills teams. There are a bunch of guys up there that he was better than. He was a 2 time AFC DPOY and the guy that elevated the Bills from good to great. Forget about the off the field stuff (OJ is up there), Biscuit is WAY overdue.

It’s a tough situation because if you look at what he did on the field, he deserves it.  But it won’t look good to celebrate someone that pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct in the same city.   Plus the team has its own rumored recent history of misconduct and bad behavior among the administration (who have since been fired).

I don’t think you can put Bennett on the wall in 2019.  The moment they do, the team will be flooded with complaints from fans, journalists and maybe even sponsors.  I think he’ll get on the wall at some point, but that it won’t happen this year

    I agree with Byrd.

Aaron Schobel DEFINITELY belongs up there.  Nine-year career Bill.  Played 16 games in 8 of those seasons, amassing 78 sacks.

    Then Kyle Williams.

    Then Fred.

    That's all I got.

Oh ... and get OJ Simpson off the wall.  I get that he was an awesome RB.  But he is a woman abuser and a murderer.  There are bigger things than football - even on the wall of a football stadium.

I would agree and have no problem taking his name off the wall.   I think the issue is that he technically was found innocent of the murder charges.  And as crazy as it sounds, I don’t think the armed robbery arrest was enough to take him down....only in the NFL

  5. Ryan Talbot and the crew at NY Upstate recently wrote an article ranking 10 ex Bills who deserve to be on The Wall Of Fame aka “the shield that guards the realm of men.”  He is clear the list is only based on the on-field accomplishments.  But you know how that goes.

    https://www.newyorkupstate.com/expo/sports/g66l-2019/05/ca1467fe036e4/whos-next-for-buffalo-bills-wall-of-fame-ranking-cornelius-bennett-kyle-williams-more.html

To say the least - there are some interesting rankings.  I feel that Aaron Shoebel is ranked too high and Fred Jackson and Kyle Williams are more deserving that Shoebel.  I don’t really know enough about Butch Byrd.  Eric Moulds and Reuben Brown are great choices

The surprise to me is Cornelius Bennett ranked #1.  For his on the field contributions, I would agree he should be ranked toward the top as next selection.

But in 2019, I think Bennett would be a very tough sell given the fact that he pleaded guilty to misconduct over an incident that happened in downtown Buffalo.  I think his selection would get a lot of backlash and that owner Kim Pegula would take a lot of heat.  I’m not saying that I agree or disagree either way, but I don’t think it’s a likely move.

If it was up to you, what former Bill would you place in the Wall?

On WGR right now (OBL), Chris Brown says Allen looks incredibly sharp and on point especially in 2 minute drill work, wonders if Daboll will incorporate additional no huddle elements at different spots in games like the Pats are known to do, and Daboll is familiar with that also.

Would it be too much to ask for a renaissance of our no huddle offense, version 2.0? Josh seems to be a good candidate, and our improved D could be the key in being able to absorb increased minutes on the field? What say you?

I don’t doubt that he looks good but I also learned to take what Chris Brown says with a grain of salt back in 2006.  His reporting is fluff.  I hope he’s right but don’t have any confidence in his opinion.  I think he said Peterman looked good at OTA’s last year too

He was the 30th ranked QB in the NFL. Outperformed whose prognosis?

Mayfield, Darnold, and even Rosen were ranked higher.

    This is who he outperformed:

It’s not shocking that those rankings come from Football Outsiders  Depending on the metric you go by, you’ll find Allen ranked closer to Darnold and higher than Jackson and Rosen.

But even going by your logic, a “parody of an NFL QB” probably certainly be ranked lower than 30th.  In no way, would a “parody” be ranked higher than Lamar Jackson, who is “not a parody” right?

Also go read the article by Ryan Talbot.  He explains how you could see progress in Allen after coming back from the elbow injury.  Also, a “parody” probably doesn’t lead a team with bad talent around them to a 4-4 record.

Again, not saying that Allen is a great QB yet....but yes he has performed better than the bleak outlook from old man Schatz

Analysts only change their opinions after the mathematical analysis confirms that they should. Whether you follow them in thought or not, you know that's what they do. If you disagree with an opinion of an analyst, you can be right, but you'll be wrong more often than right.

If the above wasn't true, every team wouldn't always be beefing up their analytics department. That's simply how player evaluation is done, now.

It is impossible for a QB to make it to the NFL without an outstanding work ethic.

Because a second rate analytics site like Football Outsiders are right 100% of the time... don’t you know?

Something tells me @Kemp is a big fan of Mike Schopp

  8. It should be noted that Allen already has outperformed the prognosis that Schatz and others predicted during his rookie year.  Football outsiders went on record saying that Allen was a parody of an NFL QB, and backtracking themselves from those comments now would only hurt their credibility even worse.

As someone said old Schatzy is trying to hedge his bets.

Anderson got 22, 48, and 76 yards against the Bills in his last three games -- I'd hardly call that "toasted."

Your cherry picking stats.  In the game against NYJ at home White was burned on several big catches because he couldn’t cover Anderson.  When it mattered, he was indeed“toasted” by Anderson.  He couldn’t make a play when needed.  Not the same for Anderson.

Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s very good and that he had an excellent rookie year.  But I’d like to see him have less moments like he had against Anderson before talking about his being the best CB in the league

Bills chances of a playoff are too dependent upon Josh Allen remaining healthy.  If he is injured early in season or even worse takes a cheap shot in preseason our chances are not too good.  I will be disappointed but it will not be "a disappointment".

I think a lot of fans will be disappointed but regardless you know Beane and McDermott will get their full 5 years

I didn't realise Jeremiah was a faith guy. I have never quite got the passing up jobs to focus on God... but then I suppose I wouldn't.

He is a top evaluator though DJ. And he and Mayock make more sense than John Lynch ever did in San Fran.

Its probably more about his family.  An NFL job would be super demanding and he’d have to travel every week.  His job with NFL probably allows him to work from home for most of the week

Who knows?  Certainly if he made decent investments and doesn't start now with the rock-star thing, he's set for life.

This is more than likely the case.  He was in an impossible with the Bills.  Never should have been a 1st round pick to begin with and it messed with his head.
