I think we gave a QB an invite to TC as well as signing the UB guy.

Everyone thinks David Tyree will be given the 3rd spot just because he was a local product.  There’s no evidence the Bills will even keep 3 QB’s on the team

It may be worth the money if you follow multiple sports and multiple teams, but they produce far less content on Bills & Sabres than the Snooze.   People may like their reporters and features more than Buffalo News, but they do not have the same level of coverage yet.

For a Buffalo-only fan I think you get a much better bang for the buck with BN Blitz subscription than you do with The Athletic

I have been 100% against paying for sports coverage but I’m now seriously considering The Athletic as they have put together a group of perhaps, the best local Bills best reports.

With Joe B, I’m considering now more than ever!

I subscribe to the BN Blitz, The Athletic, and Cover 1. IMO, worth the subscriptions.

Wow that’s a lot of money.  IMO Athletic Buffalo is the only one worth paying $$$

If you don't know by now that introducing politics to a discussion inevitably leads to a locked thread I don't know what to tell ya. Folks can't control themselves.

That is true.... the only reason I mentioned it here is because I was struggling to find why so many will go to great lengths to defend Rosen but will trash Allen without giving him the benefit of the doubt.

No it wasn't. Rosen gets crap all the time. Watching coverage of his trade yesterday , he got criticized for his 'attitude' - maybe the person criticizing was a conservative and was offended by Rosen's views.

Really?  Because I see a lot of media sharing how he was wronged and excusing his disappointing rookie year to poor coaching and talent around him

I think the Cardinals were a mess top to bottom of the organisation last year in a way the Bills weren't.

That said I think both Quarterbacks had pretty woeful talent around them offensively. I give them both a pass for that. Josh Allen did more with similarly rubbish talent that maybe isn't a total surprise given his skill set. Not sure Rosen has much better of a chance to succeed in Miami to be honest which is a similar tire fire.

This is fair... I think the narrative is slightly starting to change

  5. Here’s what I struggle to understand.  About 2 year ago many of us were disappointed after hearing that Josh......Allen was the QB that the Bills traded up for.

The reason for this was largely because the media and draft Twitter told us that Rosen was good and that Allen sucks at QB.

Even the pundits that tried to hedge their bets usually said, “Allen will take time to develop, but Rosen is the most pro ready and can start Week 1.”

But as the year played out, the stats between Rosen and Allen are nearly identical.

    Rosen - 14 games

    11 TD 14 INT, 55% 2,278 yards, 66.7 rating

    Record as starter = 3-10

    1 comeback, 2 GW drives

    Allen - 12 games

    10 TD 12 INT, 52.8%, 2,074 yards, 67.9 rating

*** plus 630 yards and 8 TD rushing but we’ll forget this for now.

Record as starter = 5-6 (though didn’t finish in 1 of those loses...thanks Nate)

    2 Comebacks, 3 GW Drives

The excuses that many will make for Rosen can be also be applied to Allen, and in most cases are probably better conditions.

    - bad OL (Yes Bills OL was nearly as bad as AZ)

    - weak WR (Arizona might actually be better)

    - Good RB that never could get going thanks to the OL (DJ is easily better than Shady at this point in his career)

    - Poor Coaching - Maybe Rosen has it worse here.  But Mike McCoy is far from the worst OC and Byron Leftwich is regarded as a good offensive mind.  When he took over he was supposed to “open it up” when he took over.  Never happened.

Yet...YET...despite all of this the narrative from many of the same Twitter pundits (Hi Warren Sharp) and fans in general still is.... Rosen is good but Allen sucks.

I cant figure out why this is.  Are they basically this on Rosen’s stellar college career and Allen’s inconsistent career(conveniently forgetting that Allen faced many of the same issues Rosen faced last year in Wyoming)?

Or are people just trying to double-down on their take because they are hell bent on being right?

And does politics or other issues factor into this?  Rosen is an outspoken liberal and most of the major media is liberal as well.  Are they giving him a pass because of this?  Maybe this is less likely but I can think of a few local hosts who championed Rosen largely because they had the same politician views.

Rosen may still end up being the great QB people predicted him to be and Allen might end up sucking.  But the constant double standard between fans and the media is outrageous.

Hopefully our “Josh” proves everyone wrong in 2019

Week 1. Rosen showed last year that he needs to sit and learn for a while.

You mean “the most Pro-ready QB in the 2018 Draft?”  The same guy that the media is crowning a Hall Of Famer after his rookie year?

I wouldn't bet the rent against Fitz starting the season.

In fact, he may start the season and play lights-out for the first 2-4 games, winning the locker room and making it hard for his successor when he inevitably craps the bed.

IMO, the chance to share a locker room with Fitz is quite possibly one of the best strokes of luck Rosen could have.  If Rosen fancies himself as a brain and needs to have everything super-explained to him to buy in, he's found his superior in the QB room.

Exactly why I thought Fitz would’ve been the perfect QB to sign last year.  Unfortunately he didn’t make it to Free Agency

It is the train wreck everyone sees coming. So many of the top receivers were there for the taking with a trade up into the 2nd. Is Cole Beasly our top receiver? We have nobody that can consistently win on the outside. We don’t have guys that align with Allen’s skillset. The Titans now have Corey Davis AND AJ Brown. Allen would kill it with those guys. Buffalo definitely could have made some trade to get Brown. Instead, I don’t know if their 3rd round picks make the team in 2 years.

I understand that you can’t fix a broken offense like ours was in one offseason, but I feel like they are setting up Allen to struggle... again! Allen needs someone that can track and catch his deep throws, otherwise teams will cheat towards the LoS again. It’s just frustrating knowing Allen has no shot of realizing his full potential this year.

Surely the Bills could’ve added a WR high in the draft.  But I think you’re embellishing the current WR situation.  It’s much improved from last year

Theres no rush.  I would need a season vet to help the offense get in sync with the new offensive philosophies.  Plus I appreciate the longevity Rosen as Plan B presents over Fitz being the Plan B.

I wouldn’t do it this way.  I don’t think Miami considers Rosen their future QB yet.  There didn’t draft him and while they traded a 2nd round pick, they are getting a QB on a rookie deal without having to pay any guaranteed money.

If you’re Miami you don’t know if he’s the future, so you need to give him as many opportunities in 2019 to find out.  If he’s not, you can try again in 2020

    Miami plan should be

    2019

Start Fitz until Playoff Elimination.  Start Rosen until end of Season

    2020

Start Rosen and let chips fall.

    2021

Play 1st Round QB if everything has failed the previous 2 seasons.

This idea is not good.  You give the QB that you traded a 2nd pick for a chance to win the competition.

Neither Allen nor Rosen were put into a position to succeed

One looked like he was cast from a cookie cutter

    The other broke the mold

The blind love and excuses that people have for Rosen is off the charts.  I’ve never seen anything like it.

also the difference is this - Rosen was though of to be the most “pro ready.”  The guy who can start Week 1.  The most ready but who has the lowest ceiling.

Allen by all account was considered more of a project.  A QB who was not ready to start and needed time to develop.

The difference is Allen exceed expectations by most and Rosen disappointed.  Both had  bad supporting casts.

I think this is right. I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that we'll have 3 teams with good-to-excellent QBs in the AFC East in a couple years, and one team desperately searching for a franchise QB ... that team will be the Pats.

I disagree.  I think Rosen will suck and is not a long term answer for Miami.  He was not good for a reason last year.  It wasn’t all his offensive line.  He. Was. Not. Good.

Ive never seen so many in the media make excuses for a player sucking

What a miserable condescending prick.  He just went on a 10 minute tirade at the start of a show with Bruce Murray about how GM’s, Player Personnel Directors and HC’s are the only ones who really know about prospects....oh and of course he knows.

Everyone else knows a fraction of everything draft related.

Just comes off as a bitter old man.

How is Murray now supposed to to a 4 hour draft show with callers, when you are working with a guy who just said...all you idiots know nothing.

Clearly he forgot the experts at Cover1.com LOL

Last night my friend called me up & said he had 2 extra tickets to the draft party so I said what the hell & my son & I took the 15 minute drive down Southwestern to the stadium.  I thought it was pretty lame, they went all fancy with the food, not good, but there was free beer so I digress.  Anyways, I ran into a friend from high school that works for the Bills.  He let me in on a little secret.  The Bills plan on running out real Buffalos before the games this fall.  Kind of like what University of Colorado does.  Not anything earth shattering but I think that is pretty cool.  Anyways, carry on with your draft talk.

Does your friend know if they plan to spray paint then blue with a red stripe?

He doesn't like the idea of the jets trade and he is flipping out on the radio. Now he wants it to happen so he can be pissed off all year. Pure gold right there !!!

Im not a fan of the trade either but if this happens i will take some enjoyment in his being triggered, lol.

I listened he came off like a little baby.  At one point he said “you want a DT high in the first round, you should have kept Marc’s Dareus”

    Completely foolish

Last time i started a thread with insider info it was dead on, i know someone who works for the Bills and this is some info he gave me. he is currently in the war room i cant attach the screenshot for some reason keeps saying its too big  no matter what i do so im just gonna type what he said:

They like Oliver, but Beane will not move up for a rotational DL.

    Sweat has a 100% medical “F” grade.

“He heart condition is mild, but high-risk. Could play whole career with no problems or it could progress and he's not be able to play anymore in the future.  Hard to predict. He was late to two team meetings as well”.

Nothing earth shattering but interesting nonetheless.
