Losman's problem was he fumbled the ball when he got hit. That's it. Nothing else. Looking off his receivers have nothing to do with fumbling the ball when your arm gets hit. He hit 22-36 for 328 yards. I wonder how good Joe Ferguson thinks Losman's numbers would have been if he did look off his primary receiver? Maybe he would have completed 75% of his throws. For 420 yards. It's great that WGR wants to bring in all of these ex-Buffalo Bills to tell everyone what the teams problems are, but I just wish they had something to say.

B.S. If you listened to his interview after the game, he took the blame for missing that block, and even said mistakes like that are what's keeping the team from winning. Whether he will leave Buffalo or not we don't know, but he does care about winning and never complains about not getting the ball enough or around the goal line or anything else. The guy's been nothing but a team player since he's been in Buffalo, yet still people say he's only interested in stats and will hold out next year.....etc. He didn't even complain last year in Mularkey's offense when he came out in passing situations for Shaud Williams.

Another thing about Pennington today, a big part of the reason the Jets could not run the ball is because of the way the Bills defense (especially corners) were playing him. No respect at all as far as throwing the ball down the field. And our run D has big problems without Spikes... Think it's a coincidence that McGahee had his career best day rushing today, the way Losman was throwing? Yeah, the turnovers killed us today and Pennington didn't make any... but it'll be interesting to see where these two QB's are at in their careers this time next season.

The offense is starting to grow up. Losman showed today that he has the ability and decision making to develop into an elite QB. The turnovers happened, and they were the reason we lost, but turnovers can and will be eliminated. One flutter ball, and two blind side sacks... He'll learn to get rid of the ball, an NFL blitz gets there a little quicker than playing at Tulane, but you can't teach a QB to fire the ball through wind like that. I'll take 475 yards of offense every game. To say Losman SUCKED today is pretty ridiculous.

I wouldn't be so quick to credit TD for Willis, either. He spent a first round pick on him, and Willis certainly hasn't exceeeded that value. He's doing about what he should do for where he was selected. No praise for Donohoe is needed when it comes to Willis, or Denney or Reed or even McGee for that matter. McGee has certainly exceeded value, but when you factor in all of Donohoe's other draft choices past round three, I chalk it up to the BHFFSS theory. (Blind Hog Finally Found Some Slop)

Well I agree with you that he's a decent RB and that's why he's on the team. He's fine as a 3rd teamer, no upside really but he can come in and add a spark with quickness. I disagree with those that say he made it because of his special teams ability. He adds nothing to special teams. Just because you can stick him back there returning kickoffs or punts doesn't mean he's any good at it.

Kelly Holcomb's long pass to Reed was nice. Holcomb threw it down the field and Reed caught it, astronomical odds against that combination happening on the same play.

Haven't seen the stiff arm but once or twice that I remember, and no devastating ones like he put on Zach Thomas his first year. But he's running with power and breaking tackles and looks quicker. How's that?

I heard Tasker (or someone??) say it was because the coaches wanted to get a longer look at Wire because he was on the bubble. Personally I think it may have been just as much to light a fire under Whitner, but that's just a guess.

Just looking at Qb rating is not a great way to measure QB's for several reasons, most notably the fact that TD passes are represented in the formula. If Losman passes it all the way down the field (hypothetically) and McGahee runs it in, why should his QB rating be any less? Qb rating is especially useless over just a few games data. All it tells is if a guy has a 90 rating he's played pretty well, and if a guy has a 60 rating he sucks. Yds per attempt seems to be the about the most accurate measure of a QB (with a peripheral eye on INT percentage.) The great ones do well in this statistic, Kelly was over 8 in his great seasons, and this is why I'm getting more and more sold on Losman. The fact that he's throwing it down field and accurately shows poise, confidence and improvement. You can see these things - they are obvious - if you watch him. If he had completed 68% of his passes at 5.8 yds/att with a 95 Qb rating, I'd be a lot less encouraged. Losman had a better preseason than most of those QB's you mentioned, including Brady.

I'll have to go back and look at that one. I just remember thinking it was a bad pass. 68% "That's not good." Even if the 8-game experienced QB did stare down a couple, you've got to be kidding.

I agree I saw that on the INT too. The one where Reed was indecisive in his route. Losman stared him down big time and the corner jumped it. But that's the only time I recall it all preseason. It's encouraging to say the very least.

How do you judge him going through his progression of reads? Seriously, not trying to be a smart ass, but do you watch his head and how he looks off defenders? If you can, go back and watch that long TD to Evans. He's not staring down his receivers at all. I'd say he's going through his reads quite well, but then I don't know who the primary receiver is on every pass play. I just know he's looking off defenders and completing 68% of his passes.

I know that, and I do get your point. But it's night and day compared to last preseason. He LOOKS like he knows what he's doing, the numbers SHOW he knows what he's doing, and the fact he doesn't try to take off at the first sign of trouble like games past offers encouragement that he's getting better... I tend to believe it. But it means crap right now. I get your point.

JP Losman 67.7% completions 8.3 yds/att He's started 8 games in his career. Those are franchise QB numbers he's putting up. Good times are definitely ahead if he puts up anything close to that and just to see the "experts" backtrack on him will be priceless. As far as the tight end being involved in the passing game, I'm intrigued by the skills of both Royal and Everett, but I'll wait until I see one of them catch something besides a pass in the flat before I say the tight end will be more involved in the passing game. I hope so, but given Fairchilds recent history in St. Louis, plus the fact all of the passes to the tight ends this preseason were basically dump offs or designed screens, we'll see. I'd like to see a tight end catch a pass right down the seam for about 15 yards.

I think so, too and I didn't believe it when he was signed. He doesn't look like he's lost a step to me. In fact, he looks fast again compared to last year with the Cowboys when I thought he was done.

Well, hopefully he plays like him. I know it's just a few meaningless games, and it's not like I'm saying he's a bust, obviously, but he is the starting strong safety. He needs to produce and I'm a little concerned about him right now.

There was one play where Whitner tried to come up for run support and met a pulling guard or tackle at the line of scrimmage, and the lineman knocked him on his rear and flipped him over about two times. Whitner just rolled over, didn't know where he was, and almost got a hand on the ball carrier who was tackled right beside him. Whitner was just off balance when he got hit but it was one of the funnier plays I've seen in awhile, had to watch it about 3-4 times. Nothing to do with this play, but I'm a little concerned about Whitner. It doesn't seem like he's around the ball nearly as much as he should be and he's pretty small (same size as Nate Clements) to be billed as this big-hitting linebacker type safety. I just don't see it yet. Hopefully the light comes on for him soon.

A sham? Anyone who wrote a report about practice at training camp wrote that Losman looked better. I wonder how many practices Mort attended? He has hit 65% of his passes in preseason and has thrown the ball down the field at over 8 yds per pass. Mort knows jack and besides that anything he writes or says about the Bills will be negative because his buddy and number one team resource is no longer around.

It generally takes a little longer for offensive lineman, especially mid round picks and later. I don't think the Bills coaching staff thinks Preston sucks. I think they're not convinced that Chris Villarrial doesn't suck. Because Preston's been coming in pretty early for him in preseason games.

I can't see him making the team. He hasn't done anything. Evans, Price, Reed, Parrish and Aiken are all locks. I think the last spot comes down to George Wilson or fast Freddie and it seems like Wilson is very well thought of by Jauron and the coaching staff given his comments after practice today. http://www.buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=4069

Yeah, not sure how you could definitively prove it one way or the other. Just what you believe. And I know it's only one play, but we all saw JP avoid a free blitzer and not only get rid of the ball for a gain, but step up and throw a 54 yard TD. I don't remember Bledsoe doing that in 3 years. So it stands to reason that all QB's do not require the same amount of protection. And obviously the passing game can open up the running game. So a sound QB can make an entire offense better. It's what I believe and any hopes of a really good season hinge on JP IMO.
