I could make peace with trading away next year's 1st knowing that we will likely have a high 2nd rounder by way of Minnesota/Houston, but giving away this year's 2nd is a bridge too far IMO. Having just one pick in the top 125 of a good draft class would be disappointing. And I love Nabers, he's my favorite Bills fit in the class, I just don't think we can afford to give away so many resources considering we just jettisoned a bunch of starters. Draft two WRs in the top 50 and there is still a good chance one of them becomes a superstar, and we can easily pull that off if we maneuver around the board.
One option I've considered for a trade up (but I don't think Beane would) is using Spencer Brown like we used Cordy Glenn in 2018. He's entering a contract year and personally I think he will price himself out of Buffalo - when you have a franchise QB contract you can't pay a RT top of the market money. Getting good draft value back for him one year before he walks in FA would make sense.
The Steelers would make sense for that idea. They probably want to move Broderick Jones to LT. Going from #28 to #20 in exchange for Spencer Brown would be the equivalent of getting pick #77 for him which I think is fair. Maybe we can also finagle a pick swap as part of the deal, their #98 for our #128. In that scenario the total trade value would be equivalent to us getting pick #65 for Spencer Brown. For a young RT on the rise that feels like the right value.
If we are at pick #20 we could trade up to #6 with the Giants without giving away exorbitant draft capital. Probably our 1st next year with maybe our newly obtained 3rd this year. I think 4 QBs will end up coming off the board before any other position, so at #6 we would have 2 to choose from out of Harrison, Nabers, and Odunze. We'd still have our 2nd rounder and 7 picks on day three. Heading into 2025 we'd have no 1st but two 2nds, a typical complement of picks after that, and some comp picks coming too.
I talked myself into this. At the expense of a starting RT and a future 1st rounder we could come away with an elite WR1.
My first thought when they signed Collins was Brown could be getting moved. I doubt they do it, and wouldn't love having new starters at 3 spots on the OL, but I wouldn't be shocked given his contract situation.

His contract is pretty brutal. We don't have much of a choice other than to hope he gets right.

Is Seattle in cap trouble? Why would they be looking to trade him?
-
I see no world where Nabers falls to 7.
4 5 and 6 all have massive needs at WR and Nabers and MH are elite prospects.
One of them will trade down with a team moving up for McCarthy. The other two will take MH and Nabers.

After seeing the reworked contract this is a wild trade for Houston. Not in a good way. Not sure what they are thinking.

Sounds like a vet mini deal with massive incentives. Sounds like very little risk with potential nice returns.
Where are you seeing that it is a vet minimum deal?

I'd guess the base is 3.5 mil and the 6.25 is based on playing time
Hope so.
I see some our suggesting him starting at G. The contract would make more sense then. But has he played guard before?

Contract details will be key here.....up to $6.25M sounds insane.
I wonder if trading Brown is in play....I highly doubt it, but he is going into the final year of his deal. That contract just seems absurd for a depth tackle. But again hopefully the base salary is a lot less than what is being reported.

Trade a 2025 2nd that can become a 1st based on production
Then trade our 2024 1st and other 2025 2nd to move up for Brian Thomas Jr
Still have our 2nd this year plus a 1st or 2nd next year
Get er done

Id consider it for a 2nd round pick. Definitely not our first.

My first reaction when the news broke was 1. shock and 2. disappointment we only got a 2025 pick
But after some time I'm liking the move more and more. 2025 2nd round pick is actually a great return for him, when you consider his age, contract and recent lack of production.
Sets us up with ammo to make a move for a stud WR in the draft and get younger, cheaper and hopefully better.

It's crazy how quickly their relationship deteriorated

Of course we can. Anyone who thinks we are not Superbowl contenders is foolish.

It’s very telling about our offense that Diggs wanted out. Feels like we were going to get a 1st round receiver and he didn’t like losing his target share
It says way more about Diggs that we were willing to eat S30M in dead cap. That says a lot about how they viewed his abilities at this stage and how badly they wanted him gone.

You're happy we lost Diggs and a 6th this year to move up to the 2nd next year from the 5th? I get we had to purge salary but feels like too much to me.
Look at what guys like Keenan Allen, Amare Cooper etc went for. It's a fine return. Preferably we wouldn't have traded him to an AFC contender, but if they made the best offer it is what it is.

Nothing significant really from Beane, but I do think he has a plan and is going to replace stef in a big way. Should be an interesting couple of months.

Before I would have said stay out and take who is left. After the trade, yes absolutely we should move up and we have the ammo. The extra second makes it easier to trade away a top pick next year.
1 + 1 for BT
1 +1 +2 for Rome
Time to make a splash

We would definitely have to give up next year 1st to move up that high. Dont see it happeningI think next year's first is very much in play, now that we have 2 seconds next year. I'd have no problem trading it for BT or RO. I think we are going to see an aggressive move from Beane.

going to take a lot more than next year's 2nd to do that.
This year's first plus next year first and our second next year. Will still have an early 2nd next year from Houston (Minnesota). Get er done.

That's just false. It will take more than that.
I agree. But see my post above yours. All it takes is one stupid team.

I remember being shocked when this happened. I haven't looked at chart values but it feels like one of the most lopsided draft pick trades I can remember.
Hopefully we can pull off a similar move. .
The Vikings traded the 12th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft within the division on Thursday night.
Minnesota sent the selection to the Detroit Lions, along with the 46th overall pick in the second round, in exchange for the 32nd, 34th and 66th overall selections this year.

I would do this if that's all that it will take

Yep.
Option 1: Trade up big, giving up next year's #1, one of next year's #2s and some mid round picks and get into the top 10 for one of the consensus top 3;
Option 2: Trade up smaller giving up one of next year's #2s and a mid round pick for (most likely) Thomas;
Option 3: Take an X receiver at #28 (likely Mitchell or Legette) and a Z type / move receiver at #60;
Option 4: Take a Z type / move receiver at #28 (likely Ladd or Worthy) and trade up in round 2 giving up one of next year's #2s for an X receiver (likely Legette or Coleman) in the 40s.
I think we are going to see one of those 4 options.
I am good with any of the above
