IR'ed for the year when he already had an exemption through the pathway program, of which I doubt they'll extend for ANOTHER season of exemptions, has me wondering if this is the end of the line for him with a settlement coming.

Not that I thought he had a huge chance to make the Bills 53 but I feel bad for him. He had that great first preseason. Then last year preseason is cancelled so he can’t play. The league changes the rules for this year. Then he gets hurt and can’t play in any preseason games. Feel for the bloke.

Reid Ferguson doing the vet/re-sign move is a bit strange.  He just signed a 3 year contract extension with 650k in signing bonus.

I want to see how much he got paid for this move on his new contract.

He definitely flew under my radar as a guy who would do this.  Good for him being a team guy!

They get a little extra money to do this. As long as both sides agree this is certain to happen, and his money is now guaranteed, it’s no real sacrifice. It’s better for player.

Andre Smith is top of my list of guys who I had on the outside looking in going to camp. He has earned that spot in every way.

He flashed a lot of solid traits including big hits, reaction time, quickness/explosion a couple times. One of those guys around the ball. Really tough to translate preseason to regular season for a guy like that but he has some game and as you said, he’s really earned it. Methinks McD probably loves him.

I think the Bills should give Trubisky a 2 year contract extension sometime mid-season. He would not be that expensive to keep.

If other teams want him, they'll have to pay up. We shouldn't just let Trubisky walk after this season for a measly compensatory pick.

I would doubt he would agree unless it’s 10m or more a season. He’s not going to want to sit AND not get paid much in the prime of his career. He’ll either want the cash or opportunity.

Maybe but I think predicting Trubisky follows Daboll wherever he goes is a tired and lazy take at this point.

Why lazy and tired? I imagine it was a significant part of his thinking. In fact, if Josh doesn’t get hurt and miss significant time in the season, Brian Daboll is likely to be the only person in the league not on the Bills who knows just how good or not good Trubisky is. His stock may not go up at all around the league if no one sees him play. His stock could soar with one guy: Daboll.

It is fewer snaps, I get that, but special teams errors can be momentum swings they can be easy scores, they are stolen possessions. Just looking at the numbers and saying "ah well it isn't a third of the game numerically" misses the point for me. Nobody is arguing it is as important as offense or defense but it isn't an after thought and if you treat it like that you will suffer. And it isn't just me that thinks this.... a lot of the best coaches in the NFL do too. I don't have the Bills 2018 special team yards given up to hand but it was a lot and it hurt the team. Equally I know Roberts had the best overall return numbers across two disciplines in the league last year. That helped the team.

I agree with what you say in theory and application. That said, they keep Matekevitch strictly for ST. Neal is a star on ST. A couple other Bills are very good. They use starters Poyer and Hyde and others too. Good to great ST guys are important as you say, but there is an overdoing it point too. Especially when these great guys make seven tackles a year and we now have two kickers that lessen ST needs.
