  1. Another look at me thread, soon to be debunked after tomorrow comes and goes....

Exactly that’s why it wouldn’t surprise me.The bar is closing and the Bills and Dez are the only ones left. Miss America ain’t walking thru that door for either side.

I respect your contributions to the board, but I thought Brandon Beane already ruled us out from signing Dez

Interesting that Milano is a converted safety because not only do he and Thomas Davis both play WLB (and not SLB for Davis, like dabills21 said), Davis was a FS entering the 2005 draft.  So it seems they're trying the same blueprint of sorts with the Bills.

My apologies.  Carolina officially lists Davis as their will and Shaq Thompson at their Sam.  For the record, Davis has played both Sam and will during his career.

My original point is not to get caught up in the Sam vs will position listing, but rather that Davis is a much more explosive and physical player than Milano.

Milanos strength and physicality was his big weakness last season.  He overcomes some of that with instincts and his short area burst.  But once linemen engage with him, he was usually overmatched.  Not to say he can't improve on that,  hopefully, with an NFL off-season program, he can further hone in and develop in those areas.

I wouldn't be shocked, if he and Humber rotate again this season.  Milano is certainly the sub package, nickle backer, but I don't think he has graduated to 3 down territory yet.  we will see

Milano really impressed me last year in our defense. He was all over the field making plays. As a rookie he had taken over a starting spot by December. He was solid in coverage and played the run well also. I expect another step forward this year as he becomes more acclimated with his responsibility within our defense and gets his run with the 1st team from the start. He is our play making OLB on defense who seems to be in on a lot of key stops or TO's ala Davis in Carolina.

Preston Brown departs via FA and in steps the #16 overall pick Tremaine Edmunds. The athleticism is undeniable and it dwarfs Brown in every way. Edmunds is going to be the sideline to sideline QB of this defense for years to come. His coverage ability, closing burst, and instincts at barely 20 years old is really amazing if you have watched him play. McDermott will have this young man watching film of Luke, studying his place, his reads, and his responsibilities from now until September.

I truly believe McDermott now feels he has the two guys who will anchor his LB unit. Most of his and today's defenses operate with only two LB's on the field anyway. These two guys are our Kuechly and Davis.

Love your enthusiasm, but that's a pretty extreme comparison. Kuechly is the best MLB in the NFL since Urlacher.

Now I think Edmunds will play the Kuechly type role, and be very good, if that's what you're trying to say.

The Milano/Davis comparison is pretty far off base.  Davis is a Sam backer, Milano is a Will who is best in nickle situations.  Davis is much more physical and one of the best 4-3 Sam backers in a while

well I'm not on social media, so have fun finding me.  and second off, if this Matt guy is going to attack someone, it opens the door for people to criticize him.

I will wait and see with Allen obviously but woof:

Last year, Wyoming finished 119th in passing S&P+ out of 130 teams in FBS. That will be the lowest rank ever for a quarterback chosen in the top 100 picks of the NFL draft. Yes, I know, Allen wasn’t playing with a bunch of NFL-bound talent around him. He also wasn’t facing a lot of NFL-bound talent on defense. The average opponent faced by Wyoming ranked just 83.5 in pass defense S&P+. Allen’s performance against top opponents was brutal. He threw two picks with no touchdowns against Iowa, with just 4.35 yards per attempt. He completed just 9-of-24 passes with 64 yards and a pick against Oregon. He completed 44 percent of passes with two picks and only 131 yards against Boise State

Stats are stats, while helpful, they can be misleading.  I can easily find great stats for college Qbs that didn't pan out for various reasons in the NFL.  And if you get time, go compare Josh Allen's and Carson Wentz's college stats...they are very similar.

Point being, there is so much more involved in this process, and we as fans can usually only fall back on stats to support our opinions.  I would recommend trusting the Gm and coach that just provided the m pay memorable season to Bills fans, in quite some time.  I believe they have us on the right path, but only time will tell

Lorax will not make the team

Way too bold of a statement.  Zo brings a lot to this team, including his leadership, special teams play, etc.

With all the new beef up front, I think we'll continue to see a nickle package predominantly.  Base defenses are becoming less important, and being creative with matchup and subpackages are more important to shut down passing attacks.

That said, Edmunds is our MLB, as Beane already pointed out.  Milano will likely see more time than any other lb, but I expect a lot of moving parts utilizing all the different skill sets that we have.

The team's season was still 8-5 with him as the full-time starter... That's true even if he only lost to Oregon, Boise St., and Iowa.

So with that logic, you're saying that Andrew Luck had a 4-12 season with Indy this past year...hmm

Probably better to stick with your original premise that a defensive tackle at pick #12 was your recommendation....now that's something we can all agree with

Allen's has a great sense of humor.   It's the best thing I can say about the guy.

If only he could play QB.

You do realize that Josh Allen didn't tweet that, it was Matt whoever..

but good try with your humor, maybe learn how this tweeting thing works gramps

  9. Funnier than the tweet, the dudes profile who wrote it....juggling nerd and soccer fan....keep this guy away from your kids.

Seriously though, this Matt Marinara along with everyone else dissing the Josh Allen selection, please remember the individuals that you're challenging (that'd be Beane and Sean), and what they did for this franchise/city in the past year+.  I think I'll continue to trust their process and decision making, until they prove us wrong.

  10. Time will tell how this draft pans out. but one thing is for sure, you NEED a great qb to be the best in the NFL.  Josh has as much upside as any of the top Qbs this year, and when you analyze how his skill set compares to others in the NFL, he has the potential to be as effective as Big Ben or Carson Wentz down the line.

He might not be the 'safest pick' of the draft, but NFL front offices understand the premium and how difficult it is to find franchise Qbs...it is the most difficult position to transition grom college to NFL.

All that said, if you think adding a defensive tackle is what it takes to put this franchise into super bowl contention, then you probably have bigger issues to sort out.

As for Edmunds, go check what Minnesota fans thunk of Anthony Barr.  He and Trumaine are cut from the same cloth.

Love your confidence, but the more I think about this, I'm not sure we are prepared to pay this cost. In one regard, I want to say we should have taken the 3 and then worked on swapping with the Giants ala Bears and 49ers last year. That would have been an easier move; however with 5 picks in the draft the Giants are most likely looking for that windfall of picks - this very likely could force them to look elsewhere and have someone jump us at 3. The path forward is very very narrow and very costly now and I'm not sure we will be willing to meet the cost. Beane has to go all out for 6 now in order to give the giants a big enough package...

Overall what is a kick in the balls is that we passed on talent last year to take a shot this year and it may not turn out that way. For a team that needs a QB, we could very well have passed on Watson, Mahomes, Darnold, Allen, Rosen & Mayfield and end up with the second tier this year. Not really encouraging at all...

Look, Watson wad not a sure fire prospect last year....not like we had a top 5 pick and passed.

Bottom line, we're now back at a similar position (pick 12 vs pick 10), and there is bound to be a "Watson" type sitting at 12 again this year.

Everyone needs to calm down and let this thing play out.

Chris Ballard, the Colts' GM, say they didn't want to move out of the top ten so he couldn't.

So you're saying we never had a chance to make a deal with the Colts?  But you think the Jets gave up all those picks and are gambling that Buffalo won't make a trade with the Giants....hmmm

Better odds, Gmen stand pat and draft Barkley. If Indy was never in play for us, still can't get why you said we "lost out"...more like never had the opportunity

  13. 1 minute ago, Chuck Wagon said:

Do you really believe we didn't try to move up?

Every single report mentioning the Bills has said they've been trying to move up, this is going back to before the combine there were reports about the Bills trying to move up.  We clearly moved up to 12.  Do you honestly believe the team wasn't talking to Indy about #3 and otherwise hasn't been trying to move up?

I honestly think Beane could have beat the Jets offer, so no I don't think he valued Rosen or whoever quarterback that high....which makes this thread useless, since it will take more to get pick #2

You said it yourself.............gotta' get to AT LEAST 3..........too many teams can jump ahead of you at 4.

People act like the Bills are the only ones that can trade a player off of their roster to move up in the draft........what if the Colts want Shaq Barrett from Denver and they use him to trade up ahead of the Bills?

Bills need to leave no room to get jumped by NYJ or Denver or even Miami or Arizona.

I want to get to #2 in case NYG have second thoughts and decide to draft the heir to Eli.

Personally, I want Darnold so hoping that Dorsey stays in character and drafts the biggest arm in Josh Allen the way he did last year with Mahomes.

See my post above, we can disagree but I can't see the Giants passing up on Barkley....and think they are a couple years away from moving on from Eli

  15. Let me start by saying that I expect, like many other fans, that Buffalo is looking to jump into the top 5 to draft their future QB.  Aj Mccarron signing doesn't change any of that line of thinking.

That said, many media heads and some fans, have predicted Buffalo and Cleveland striking a deal for the 4th pick...i just don't see that happening, and here's why:

    1. Cleveland is already loaded with picks in this year's draft, and it's a quite possible they'd rather have our 1st round pick next year (instead of multiple 2nd or 3rd rounders from us this year)....i can't see Beane giving that up

    2. Browns know that beating Pittsburgh starts with slowing down their padding attack.  I see them taking a QB at #1, then drafting the best CB at #4

I'm predicting the Colts to be our trade partner....Darnold goes #1, Barkley to the Gmen at #2, and for us to take Josh Rosen at #3
