The Bills' history of developing rookie QBs indicates that will do nothing more than double the failure.

History means nothing really though since it's a new team all new coaches and new GM and owner.  Just saying.

  2. I think the interesting part of McCarran is that he sat on the bench.  Why is that interesting.

    1.  He won't want to go there again.

    2.  He sat behind Dalton for a while.  And say what you will about Dalton but he got them to the playoffs a few years in a row and he's a pro...maybe not the best pro but he's a good mentor.

    3.  He's a smart enough kid yo know how to prep properly after sitting for a while so I believe he will be ready to play whenever we need him.

    Seriously.

I know that people here really believe in him... why?

Plenty of past NFL players have been drafted for physical potential (Ryan Leaf, RG3, Jamarcus Russell, Blaine Gabbert, Blake Bortles, etc) and have simply flamed out.

I've never seen a college QB so devoid of college production being propped up this much based off of what I can only believe to be purely physical potential.

It's head scratching and infuriating because this guy looks like a project 2nd or 3rd round QB at best, to me.

What are people focused on? Throws he can make??? Haven't we had enough of these project QBs that are "balls of clay" for us to mold?

    There's something I'm missing.

    What is it?

I know there isn't a single QB in the NFL HOF with his forgettable production from a second-rate college football program like Wyoming. Is he supposedly going to break that trend?

What the hell... someone explain this to me so I can get behind him sooner rather than later if we draft him...

    hopefully, we don't.

Think Jeff George or jay Cutler.  Thats what i see.  Big arm.......................bout it

So we are going to have this discussion and leave a terrible WR group out of the conversation? Leaving aside Kelvin Benjamin, you had some pretty terrible ball catchers last year. Logan Thomas is bloody QB acting like he can play TE out there.

Look ... it's like my baseball team. There's no problem having a Gold Glove CFer that can't hit the ball out there ... providing you have 7 other positional players that can actually hit the ball. You can't give extensive time to the likes of Logan Thomas and Zay Jones and for most of the year have KJ not even playing and the rest of the WR being basically cast offs.

Eventually, you need talent at WR. In the words of a beautiful wife ... he can't throw the ball and catch it.

If like to include the wr discussion but we had same issue when we had Sammy, woods and Goodwin.. .how did they make out without tyrod.

For me it's including our 2019 1st.  While I have little desire or inclination to wipe out the entire treasure chest of 2018 draft picks we've amassed in savvy fashion, I'm deathly afraid of parting with next year's 1st even more- and with McCarron and a rookie likely sharing starts I think that's too valuable of a draft chip to include as compensation, especially given that all of these QB's possess what appear to me to be concerns that can't be easily dismissed:

    - Darnold's irrelevant, as far as we're concerned, since we can't get to 1.  But his sloppy footwork and rash of turnovers in 2017 (picks & fumbles) can't be categorically glossed over.

    - Rosen throws such a beautiful ball with touch, anticipation, and advanced mechanics and footwork- but he missed half of 2016 with a shoulder injury, suffered two concussions last year (in quick succession), and left a couple of other games with other injuries.

    - Mayfield's moxie has some appeal and his football acumen, accuracy, eye manipulation, etc. are topnotch, at this point.  But his size- hand size too- is less than ideal in Buffalo.

    - Allen's the prototype- God knows the NFL loves prototypes.  It's a shame his accuracy needs such drastic improvement.

    - Jackson is seemingly the most likely to be there at 12, which in terms of drafting I'd actually be better with taking at 12 rather than sacrificing- maybe squandering; the top-4 are far from 'sure things'- most/all of these picks to move up to #2 or #4.

Anyway, if the Bills think that they have really identified the 'other' franchise QB in this draft (setting aside the unobtainable Darnold), I'm good with trading both 2018 1st's (12 & 22), & 2nd's (53 & 56), plus either one of our 3rd's (65 or 96) or a 2019 2nd.

But I'm not trading the 2019 1st- I just don't have the conviction in any of these guys to do that.

Plus 1.  Don't screw up next year's draft as well as this one to get someone.  I'm personally not a fan of trading up at all but if we do...limit the damage to this draft.

  6. I've read people make this statement a few times in different posts and thought it deserved a thread.  First off this is B.S. in my opinion.  I think he made the line lool worse.  Why you ask?

    1.  Since 2016 Taylor has had the highest time to throw in NFL.  Meaning he holds the ball the longest.

    2.  He almost never throws the ball at the top of his dropback.  He never anticipates the throw and rarely throws based on timing.   Instead he waits for people to get open causing dline to get pressure and fans who don't understand things say wow...he saved a sack there but instead if the ball came out on time there would be no pressure at all.

    3.  Taylor's footwork was/is terrible.  Instead of stepping up in the pocket (which was solid due to wood and Ritchie most of the time) he moved into where the defense was a lot.

For these reasons a QB who can throw with anticipation and has better mobility within the pocket will make the oline look much better.

    Discuss.  :)

You guys really have no idea how much crappy oline play was negated because of Tyrod. QB is the biggest downgrade by far.

Disagree wholeheartedly.  Tyrod held the ball longer than any qb in the league by a fair margin...if anything the oline looked worse because he didn't make throws based on timing and waited to see people open.

See above post, 23 highest paid players are QBs.

Soon to be 25 of 25 after Goff and Wentz.

Bills outsmarting everyone by not playing a QB or just really late to the party.

Never said bills strategy was correct just disputing that most of those bozos would be worth paying the ransom we will have to pay to get someone like them.

    What about

    Andrew luck

    Carson Wentz

    Jared Goff

    Matt Ryan

    Mahomes

    Watson

    Trubisky

    Winston

    Mariota

    Newton

    Stafford

Or do those guys not count since they don't fit your narrative?

Let's take a deep dive here on the list.

Luck - pretty good but honestly he hasn't performed near what everyone thought he would.

Wentz - agree.  He's the real deal.

Goff - could be foles 2.0.  Was absolutely terrible in one system and good when given the most weapons in the league.  Can't say he's good yet.

    Matt Ryan - agree.

Mahomes - crazy talk to say he's anything yet.

Watson - looked good.  But is he another Bradford that can't stay healthy.  Who knows.

Trubisky - wow.  Not sure he was better than treat Edwards last year to be honest.

Winston - I wouldn't trade any pick yo get him.  He's horribly inconsistent.

Mariota - under achieve much?  again.  No picks would be traded for him.

    Newton - agree...but he's not tier 1

Stafford - throws for 5k every year but can't win a playoff game.

Of your list of trade picks in hindsight for 3.  Maybe 4 of them.

I see it a little differant.  Similar premise. The move to 12 was to put them in position to get their second choice at qb.  Depending on the price the ability to get their number 1 choice.  Imo Buffalo has is Rosen 1 Jackson 2.  Beane is going to take the next month determining is Rosen 3 firsts and 2 thirds better than Jackson.  After watching the past year Im going to go with the conclusion Rosen is not.  Buffalo gets Jackson and then makes a move to Mcd his linebaker.

Agree.  Could be the opposite but same concept.  I'm thinking Jackson is their number 2 no matter what.  That's why you sign the guy with upside to a 2 year deal.

  11. It might just be me but beane seems to love to throw smoke screens out there and tall people into stuff that he wants them to believe.   He's done this a number of times...from saying sammy is a huge part of the offense to saying Dareus is doing all the right things.   He plays with everyone to maximize value he can get in return.

To me this draft is no different.  He had a plan all along and he's executing on it.  Gut tells me his favorite QB is QB3 to QB5...and it has been all along.  He traded up to get McDermott his LB and he's going to wait to get Jackson Rudolph or something else.  He likely realized the cost was too high to trade up.  It forced the jets to make a bonehead move and it will force others to jump ahead where he cam take advantage of his 12th pick being bpa.

Just a hunch but he seems very methodical and doesn't do anything by chance.

Rams were a worst to first type turnaround.  The Eagles had an MVP candidate at QB before he was injured.

    You're not trying at all.

Before we anoint goff king I want to see if this is a foles mirage or not.   Is he the guy that played terribly as a rookie or the guy that played well with arguably the best supporting cast in football???   We will see next year.

Here is the Top 11 as I currently see it:

    Browns - Sam Darbold

    Giants - Saquon Barkley

    Jets - Josh Rosen

    Browns - Minkah Fitzpatrick

    Broncos - Quinten Nelson

    Colts - Bradley Chubb

    Buccaneers - Denzel Ward

    Bears - Trumaine Edmunds

    49ers - Derwin James

    Raiders - Roquan Smith

    Dolphins - Vita Vea

if this scenario plays out I see no real reason to give up draft capital with needs at MLB, OL, WR, CB, to move up higher with Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson available.

I would take Allen or Jackson at 12 and hope Leighton Vander Eshe or Rashean Evans is available at 22

Sign me up here as well.  Keep the picks.  Difference between qb1 and qb4 is negotiable

Mark my words:  Bills will move to 2nd before the draft and on draft day swap with Cleveland.  Bills get the #1 QB and Cleveland takes the RB. End of story.  Thank me later !

If we do this it's stupid.   We don't know the difference between the 1st and 5th best qbs in this draft more than we knew Brady would be the goat.  That move would cost us everything this draft and some in next.

I'm fine with rolling dice in who drops out of top 10.
