Bills GM Brandon Beane: 'I don't want to suck bad enough to have to get Ja'Marr Chase
"They right now are on the advantage of a rookie quarterback contract," Beane said of Cincinnati,
And they had some lean years and without getting too much into their build, I don't want to suck bad enough to have to get Ja'Marr Chase. I would love to have him, but you got to go through some lean years to do that. They were able to get Burrow at one, and I don't remember where Chase was drafted, but it was pretty high."
Where is the accountability here? Beane comes across as a total baby. You shouldn’t have to pick top 10 to get good players. How many assets did he give to draft total bust Tremaine Edmunds? And when he did draft in the top 10, why take Ed Oliver? Why did they trade Wyatt Teller for a 5th round pick? Why is he complaining about J’Marr Chase? We could have picked Justin Jefferson if we just sit still!

To the bolded. For all we know, this could already be happening.
McD needs to let the next DC run their own defense... Not McD's schemes. IF I am trying to save my own head, I admit my failure to my own scheme and say that "i need to reach out for a DC with his own scheme"
That’s his forte though. McD is from a defensive background, I find it hard not to assume that McD is not at fault here, his defenses are trash. Why keep him around? Why not hire a HC from an offensive background to work with Josh? First it was 13 seconds and then we get blown out by the Bengals, let’s not try to pretend like our defense is the Steel Curtain or Legion of Boom here.

I am beginning to think a mix of both... You know.. early year I did a post saying that we are not the most complete team that the eagles and jets are more of a complete team then us. Jets just without a QB. I GOT HAMMERED in that thread. And look where we are now?
Understandable. Bills fans have a bully mentality at times, I’ve caught the short end of it as well.
I would love to see Terry moderate a debate between Beane and McD, whose at fault here?In my mind, I find our defenses to be completely underwhelming and that’s on Coach McDermott. Let’s not pretend like McD has no pull in who we draft. Edmunds and Oliver, those are his guys, let’s not try to bury that fact.

1. HB. For the sake of argument, likely Singletary is going to be gone
2. Guard. say no more.
3. Tackle. no doubt.
4. WR Shakir deserves his shot as #3 next year and this WR team not getting younger.
5. DT
6. Its likely we do not pay Edmunds what he want unless he accepts a home team contract.
7. FS. I love Poyer but we need speed here.
We have a decision to make. We start the year at 4 mil to the good. Do we go all in on The O'Line or do we continue to draft aged vets to fil holes and live with what we got?
Change is needed but how do we move forward? Outside of coaching, what is your game plan? Fix one group or what?
Is it the players? Or is it the coaches? What do you think? Could Edmunds or Oliver go elsewhere and suddenly become dominant? Wouldn’t surprise me personally.
-
No to all three.
-
Fire McD and Beane
• Hire Brian Callahan as HC. Let him pick his GM, OC and DC.

Love Poyer, but I think he’s cooked.

McDermott probably can win a SB but it won't be because of him and that makes it all the more difficult
Sure he can win a Super Bowl, as a Defensive Coordinator maybe.

As would every team with a franchise QB
Would you consider Brock Purdy to be a franchise QB? That’s what a highly proficient offensive innovator can do with a scrub QB. Belichick can’t even make 1st RD QB Mac Jones look good and at least Belichick can actually field a really good defense, McD can’t.

I don’t think so. We have a mediocre coaching staff all around, especially on defense which is supposed to be McD’s specialty. I think we’re good enough to get to the playoffs though but that's only because Josh is a great QB, without him we would tank.

McD is untouchable
Just stop it.
We need better coordinators
Frazier gave up 40+ last year..
If it was competitive, would have gave up 30+ this year
Bring on some elite coordinators and call it a day
I find it aggravating that Frazier gets all the heat but we quickly forget that defense is McD’s forte. The buck should stop with him. I understand it if McD doesn’t quite understand our offensive woes but defense? C’mon, that’s weak.
Btw, Payton is a terrible choice. If you want a coach from an offensive background you want either Brian Callahan or Frank Reich. Payton only won one ring with HOF QB Drew Brees and he had him for two decades.

i think we have to let edmunds and poyer walk.
i think tre white, edmunds, poyer and hyde will all be gone after next season. we can't pay players who aren't difference makers
I disagree about Tre White but I agree with you on all the others.
If we trade Oliver we could free up $11M as well, not saying we should, just throwing that out there.
-
How many Super Bowls did he win with Brees?

Instead of trying to one up you I’m just going to point out what I do like.
Risner would be an excellent addition, he’s a draft prospect I liked years ago before the draft and I’m pretty sure he can play some tackle too. Would love to have him.
Quessenberry would be a great signing as well, so would Boettger. Nice depth and could probably do well in spot duty.
How do you feel about Broderick Jones the LT from Georgia? Im thinking he would be an All Pro at guard.
-
I love McD, he comes across as a phenomenal person and it is very plain to see why players love playing for him but there is a reason why he was the only coach in the divisional round that came from a defensive background.
The bottom line is simple, Josh Allen will have no stability as far as coaching is concerned so long as McD is the HC. If we have a great season next year someone will poach Dorsey from us. Heck if we fired Dorsey and hired Frank Reich to be our OC and we had another great season he would likely be poached also.
So long as we have a defensive minded HC we will have no stability on offense and there will be a constant coaching carousel. Don’t hire Frank Reich to be our OC, hire him to be our HC! Or better yet, poach Brian Callahan from the team that brutally kicked our ass in the playoffs.
Love McD, good coach, wonderful human being but we need to move on.

Sometimes you’re the hammer, sometimes you’re the nail. This is Buffalo we’re talking bout here, we do tend to have a herd mentality here.

He is a good, not great DT, so long as his contract reflects that I have no problem with him staying.

Wow. Should be a lot of fun!

I love Saquon but we need hogs up front more than anything. Take that money and sign RT Mike McGlinchey to sure up that right side of the line and draft a couple interior guys RDs 1-3.
Also keep in mind that we can re-sign Singletary at 1/3 of the cost of Barkley and Singletary has less wear.My FA wishlist
• Mike Gesicki, TE, Miami UFA
• Mike McGlinchey, RT, SF UFA

I’m not sure if “stung” is the right word. Mentally I feel that we’re at a crossroads. On one hand we have a coach that can consistently get us into the playoffs, but on the other hand he’s probably not good enough to win us a Super Bowl, but once again, he’s still a “good” coach, but I do as a Bills fan fear that we may fall off into the abyss if we hire a lame duck coach in his stead.
-
I kind of get the sense that Jordan Phillips has played injured all year, so I would love to have him back at the veteran minimum. I also think that Devin Singletary would be a good option for us at $5M/yr if he’s interested.. Other than that, I think I would let everyone walk.
I’m also ecstatic that we have so many free agents on our OL. Good riddance! Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out. Buffalo needs to revamp this unit and then some. 330lbs minimum should be the weight requirement for anyone we draft or bring in.

OC - Frank Reich - Had Wentz playing near pro-bowl level, got a lot out of Foles. Will reign in Allen some. Good chance for Reich to retool his coaching resume
My friend, this puts us at a distinct disadvantage. If we win a Super Bowl or if we simply have a good year, Frank Reich is gone, some team will hire him away from us. This would be a reoccurring theme for Buffalo if McD remains the HC. You’re better off just making him our HC so Josh at least has some sense of stability.

Who do you want to replace him with? That’s the key. If you’re going to move on, you better have a better plan. Firing mcdermott on its own, is a terrible idea. Firing McD while having a viable successor in mind, I’m ok with.
for the record. I’m a mcdermott fan. I think he deserves another year….but I’d be happy if we traded for Payton. If you’re going to fire him and roll the dice on someone, he seems like a good place to start. Not sure how many, if any, other coaching candidates I’d prefer over McD right now.
Off the top of my head, I would like either Brian Callahan or Frank Reich. Callahan is ridiculously overqualified to be a HC. He’s worked with Burrow, Carr, Stafford and Manning and was successful with all of them. Pay this guy $10M/yr to come in and be our HC. (Frank Reich would be my last ditch option.)

Mike Gesicki would be a great upgrade as far as our slot WR position is concerned. That was a glaring weakness for us all year long I thought. McKenzie is not the guy we thought he was and Beasley, as much as I love him is just way too old at this point. Allen missed having that smart, move the chains, physical, find the soft spot in the defense kind of weapon I thought.
Give me a slot WR and give me another outside WR to compete against Gabe Davis, preferably in the 1st-3rd rounds.
If we expect Allen to be the “franchise” which I think he is, give this guy a solid OL and I’m talking 330lbs minimum as a requirement for every player on our line, like heaviest line in the league kind of big and get the guy some more weapons and a running attack!

I would let Poyer and Hyde walk and I would sign Dean Marlowe as depth and probably draft a guy and sign a guy.
