Best non Super Bowl Bills Team, SB era, ever
Maine-iac replied to Thrivefourfive's topic in The Stadium Wall
2021 we had a top defense. Allen was playing lights out in the playoffs. 13 seconds should have NEVER happened. Honorable mentions would be the 88 team that lost to the Bengals. The offense hadn't arrived like it did after Lofton showed up but most of the major players were there and the defense was one of the best. Not crapping on this years team. The offense really came together and was pretty special but the defense was hanging on for dear life most of the year. -
I mean I wouldn't blame them for kicking the tires. If they think they've got 2022 Dane might be worth it but 2023 and 2024 Dane has been picked on a lot. I could be wrong but I'd guess that a younger Hyde and Poyer covered up a lot of the warts and he'd be pretty exposed in our current secondary.

If you claiming that you won does it for you by all means take your victory lap. When you're shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic no one cares if one is a couple dollars more than the other. It proves nothing.

There are better answers out there hopefully we go with one of them. I'd love to not even think about it because we already added a pass rusher makes you believe things might be different this season. If we march into the season with the same group it would be a little maddening.

If you think he's getting that much money I can certainly see why you wouldn't even consider it. I'm no expert but I doubt he's getting that much or that long unless there's some sort of 1 year out where he can be cut without dead cap. Either way I'm not in love with the guy. I also knew there would be a debate over what you might get out of him and at what cost. It will be interesting to see how it plays out he'll probably end up with the 49's or Detroit anyway.

I'm all for it. Think he'd sign for under 15 million?
-
Numbers can look different depending on how you present them. Epenesa has played half a season more games than Bosa the last two years and barely has more sacks. Tell me Bosa misses too much time and I'll say I get it. Tell me he's washed and has nothing left I'm not so sure. Not saying I'm right but if we don't draft someone or make a real move I wouldn't be upset if down the road in free agency we bring in Bosa on a one year deal (like we did Floyd) and see what he has left.

Starks and Emmanwori were both gone in the first and Barron and Watts were gone by pick 40 when I ran the simulator. I like Mukuba but was suprised how fast safeties were coming off the board.

How many has a Buffalo player had since McDermott came here? I can think of one and he was a one year rental. That said there's no question he's missed a lot of time. Seems to be the biggest concern most people have.

Show me where on the field salary makes Jackson a better player. Elam makes more than either of them so by your standard he must be pretty good.
-
Last two seasons he's played he allowed better than 100 QB rating when targeted which is as bad as Hamlin. At least Hamlin can tackle.
-
This sounds spot on.
-
The fact that Jackson seems like a much better option than Elam is just sad. Jackson is the CB equivalent of Hamlin at safety, prove me wrong.
-
Remove the really expensive guy part and how do you feel about it? The age/injury history is a legit concern but everything points to him getting paid Leonard Floyd type money which is probably half or less than what we will pay Groot. On a one year deal there is little to no concern for dead cap. The focus would be on winning that year and could he stay healthy.

I actually LOL'd.

I agree with all of this. Unfortunately my answer would be less about speed and more about being a technician. Diggs wasn't a burner but he was a technician. We could use that again. Size and contested catches seems to be the in lieu of type answer. Cooper seemed like he should have been that answer. Maybe we resign him and he gets it done. It would be nice to have a WR who stacks a DB and walks away from him in a way that scares defenses. Also it would be nice to have a player with that kind of speed who actually plays and isn't just sitting on the bench week in and week out.
-
My question is in what world are we going to line a "speed" wr up outside with an opportunity to just out run the defender? Not because it wouldn't be nice or to our advantage but because we love to run the ball and block with our outside WR's so we rarely line up anyone out there with that kind of speed. If it's 3rd and 3 in most places on the field we're probably going to have Hollins and some other big body out there. They actually started mixing Samuels in once in a while and getting something out of him. Maybe that's a start.
-
Given his injury history where do you think a one year deal would land? Under 20 or even Leonard Floyd type cheap (relatively speaking)?
-
This is going to sound crazy but hear me out. I think the new found simplicity and reliability of throwing short mixed with the turnover at outside WR has taken some of Allen's willingness to throw it outside away. I honestly think Coleman and Cooper or Hollins (if they are resigned) are totally capable (probably more capable) of making teams pay ala Gabe Davis. To some degree I think Allen probably has a little trauma from his only options being to throw it up to a spot and Davis or even Diggs not being on the same page and bad things happening. If we run back Cooper, Coleman, and Hollins it might be a good thing just because of familiarity.

To your point even the season before Shakir still averaged over 7 yards of YAC but his ADOT was 8.9 instead of 5.5 and had a total 15.7 yards per catch. Even if we don't get a "speed" guy if they could get some Gabe Davis like production down the field out of (insert WR name here) it would go a long ways towards opening things up. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/S/ShakKh00.htm#all_adv_receiving_and_rushing

It's unfortunate but those are the questions. If he's been injured can he come back healthy, and does he want to be out there fighting to win? If he's got bad habits off the field and the Chargers fan base thinks he's soft it doesn't give you a good feeling about acquiring his services. On paper (or on your laptop) the numbers might say if he's healthy take a swing but often there's more to the story.
-
I can't argue against that. That said if he's a FA and the price was right would it be worth the risk? Do we hit in the draft at pick 30? I'm guessing that's a DT or safety. I'm still all for packaging a couple firsts and trying to get Garrett. If I had to guess I do think Bosa (if healthy) could be better than Miller has been the last two seasons.
