My differences -- Secondary A. There are still better ones like JAX. QB, D -- Taylor did play well at times, but was just awful at many other times.
-
Mayfield won't be there any more. They will have to move up.
-
Eli is the only one with a SB ring, but his days as an above average starter, which is all he ever was, are history. The logical conclusion then? None of the above, thank you. McCown would be a good backup and mentor to whoever we draft.
-
I hope this isn't true. If it is, Richie needs to be gone. Period. If it isn't true, Yannik needs to publicly apologize. Oh and bet that number is more like 100%. Dawkins seems to think none of this is true. Hmmmm...

Shaq is on a rookie contract. Hughes is the one making the big bucks
True, but Hughes >> Shaq IMO. Let's hope we get 1 or 2 solid pass rushers to compliment Hughes and watch him return to double digits.

I absolutely know we need receivers but if we have to make do in 2018 with Benjamin, Zay and a couple of lower end FAs then so be it. I feel like the 2019 draft is where I would invest high at the position..... start with the QB and the trenches.
I could see the Bills going OT and bumping Glenn or Dawkins inside. I think Glenn could return to probowl level if his foot is 100% and I think Dawkins made solid progress and will only get better.

Pass rush was embarrassingly awful this year. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hughes is traded/let go. I’d put that at number 2 need. The good news is we have a good number of picks in first half of the draft
I'm not so down on Hughes. It's tough being the ONLY guy on the D that can pass rush. You tend to draw extra attention that way. He actually played fairly well IMO. Let's unload Shaq. He's overpaid and seriously underperforming. It would be very easy to find an upgrade at LDE. VERY easy.

I won't argue that strategy, but we do have needs and QB's impact their teams far more than any other position.
-
I list our needs as follows in terms of priority.
1. QB -- We all know what having a great QB means to the W's column.
2. DT -- If we could hold other teams to under 3.7 yd/att we'd cut the points against way down. More 3rd and longs!
3. WR -- But not just any WR. We need a guy with great speed to keep other teams from loading the box. We missed Sammy, but he was always hurt. Thompson is fast, but we need someone better.
4. LB -- I know Preston had a ton of tackles, but he's just not that good. Lo was very ordinary in '17 and is 34. Milano has made steady progress, though. Ours is a very LB friendly scheme.
5. Edge Rusher -- Need I explain?
Other needs: OL Interior, punter, #2 CB or #3.
PS -- We don't HAVE to be run first if we have a great QB. Just sayin'.

Not exaggerating at all when I say Tre White was this defense's Josh Norman and that combined with solid safety play and a decent pass rush was why we were fairly solid on D.
I'll go as far to say that after McCoy, White is this team's MVP.
They freaking nailed that pick.
AND traded down to get the best player in the draft AND got an extra 1st round pick. Best draft day move since that blockbuster trade that brought Biscuit here.
-
They know they need a big upgrade at QB. I just hope they don't bite on a slight improvement and shoot for the stars. Maybe they'll miss, but they have to try. My dream scenario is 2 1st rounders plus ? for Luck, but that's never going to happen. Tyrod may stay for another year if they want to develop a rookie, but we'll have another signal caller soon for better or worse. Let's hope Beane has a sharp eye for talent.
-
Power struggle is not the right expression. Kraft OWNS the team and can do whatever he wants. ESPN can't come up with a more compelling story than this?
-
I STILL say that letting NP start was the right move. No one could have predicted 5 picks and it was his 1st start. I'm not saying he'll be a starter or not, but we definitely need a QB upgrade. We NEEDED to see what he could do.
Also, McVay won only 2 more games than McD and look at how much more talent he had to work with. Clearly our staff did a better job overall. Hopefully we'll see a lot better talent next year on our roster. Unless Mr. Beane is completely incapable and does what Buddy Nix did in that 1st draft of his, we can hardly miss. The key is QB.

We need to stack the box and stop the run. Make Bortles beat us. He will eventually make a mistake.
Agreed. They will do the same -- make TT beat that incredible secondary with a weak QB and receiving corps.

tre was the only bill named to PFF's All-Pro team
He's not there. None of the Bills are.

The Peterman Era? Newsflash guys. He hasn't had an "era" and he's still a rookie so his career is far from over. Also, we already know Tyrod is not the answer so why not give the rookie start one when your starter is playing poorly. I'm glad we made the playoffs, but my focus is on the future. I will be deeply disappointed if TT starts our next regular season game. Everyone seems to think all Nate did was that 1st half and they forget the game he won, even though he didn't finish or the other times he played well. He may never be a starter, but his story is nowhere near finished. It's so easy to look smart when you have only hindsight going for you.

I know it's just Madden, but I have fun with it. I play the games in simulation mode as a spectator using my own CPU skill settings that I've been tweaking for years to keep the results more realistic, if that word can be applied to Madden.
After 58 minutes in which most of the offense was the Jax ground game, the Jags had a 13-10 lead and drove down to our 8 yd line when Hughes hammered Bortles on 3rd and goal, knocking the ball loose and Washington recovered for us. The Bills quickly drove down into the red zone where Hauschka sent the game into OT with 6 secs left to play in regulation time.
In OT, the Bills went nowhere and gave up good field position. After a couple 1st downs the D stiffened just outside FG range and a nice punt return set up the O at the Bills 32. The Bills hit a couple nice passes and Tyrod got the Bills up close enough for the game winning kick as Haus-money went 3 for 3, including a 53 yarder.
Milano had a great game with 2 sacks and a TFL as well as double digit tackles (as did Brown and Poyer). The Jags carved us up on the ground, but our D did a great job of making them settle for 3 as well as forcing that late fumble. It was a lot of fun to watch. I hope the real game goes like that.
I just wanted to share that one.
---------------------------
Game2 with updated rosters.
Bills win with only 57 sec left as Hauschka goes 6 for 6. Jags get 1st lead with under 7 min left in 4Q, but TT scrambles for 2 1st downs in the last 2 min to get the Bills in range for the GWFG from 53 yards out. Jags miss a desparate 59 yd att at the buzzer. Kyle Williams has 3 sacks and was MVP. Play of game: P Brown strips Fournette at the Bills 1 yd line and Hyde recovers.

If you collectively look at this draft class you see players such as Dawkins, Zay Jones, White and Milano who are not only good prospects but mature people who are self-motivated and dedicated to their profession. None of these players are dazzling. All of them are the type of players/people you want to build a roster with. Dareus is without a doubt one of the most talented defensive tackles in the league. However, his talent wasn't always actualized because of his immaturity on and off the field. While many people scoff at the notion of character and the type of guys wanted on the roster by McDermott as time goes by his approach to building the roster will become more evident. It's not so much as acquiring talent as it is as building a roster. This profile of player is also apparent with the acquisition of players such as Hyde, Poyer andGaines.
The jury is still out on Jones, but Milano shows real promise. He's not great yet, but shows steady improvement. Same for Dawkins. Lattimore and that RB in NO were popular favs, but PFF got it right.
-
I'm going with a dark horse here. I say Milano has his best game to date and is our best player followed by Poyer.
-
There is no reason to sign ANY of the FA QB's because none of them are a significant upgrade over TT and Eli's better days are in the past. A nearly impossible trade maybe or draft one, but we have to be aggressive or stay home.

Cleveland is not trading this time man. I'm not sure why people think they will but they set themselves up for this EXACT scenario. Unless they pay Cousins, they are taking Darnold or Rosen at 1. Believe it. Nobody is going to do the Bills favors and pass on a franchise QB when they set themselves up for this just because Bills fans are desperate for a QB (and I'm not saying we shouldn't want one, because we should).
The furthest I can see us moving up is by trading with the 49'ers or Colts. I just hope we get the best one of the bunch.
7 hours ago, maryland-bills-fan said:Why not think of this draft as the top five 2018 QB's PLUS the top 6 available veterans who have already proven that they can take a snap under center AND win games in the NFL: Cousins, Manning, Bridgewater, Smith, Keenum and Bradford?
Use one of those four top two round draft picks on a defensive tackle......AND use the other 3 for big uglies on the offensive line who put a hand in the dirt. Which is better? (NEW baby Toy & current ok o-line) or (NEW older Toy with much improved o-line) ?
Might that be a viable plan, rather than a 21 year old kid who has a 2/3 chance of flaming out?
I think that TT 's skill set is not really a good fit for the coaches and our players. (risking a throw far down field would let Shady run an extra 10 yards before meeting a safety). I wonder if one of those vet's film, shows our coaches just what they want.
I don't want ANY of those veteran QB's. There's a reason why they are available and we already have a mediocre QB anyways. We need to aim higher.
-
If they are serious about making this team a SB contender, they have to draft a qb with mvp potential or stop pretending and I don't mean Cousins either.
-
Add 4 points to the Bills score and take 3 gift points from the Pats. That's a 7 point swing due to bad officiating. Wow! It's really been a very long time since I've seen such poor officiating and from the people in NY too?! Amazing.
I spoke too soon maybe. Not sure about the Elston penalty. It's such a shame given the magnitude of this game for this city to have it decided by incompetant officiating. I hope the NFL does something to correct this situation.

I love a great defense, so they are fun to watch, but still have a very long way to go. Right now we have 2 good S's, 1 good DE and 1 good CB. The other 6 starting jobs are pretty wide open if we can stack some talent. I want one of those legendary defenses that even elite teams hate playing. The Bills haven't had that kind of defense since 1965, though they've had some pretty good ones.

Sad, but very true. Other than Kyle, the other DT's aren't even good backups. Every one of them will be hard pressed to even make a roster in 2018.
