So, if it is 3rd and 11+, why would the defenders not grab and hold every single receiver on the field? There has to be a mechanism to prevent busted plays like that. There should at least be a penalty of yardage and repeat the down if there is holding, DPI, or illegal contact. I agree that giving an automatic first down sucks.

Get rid of Sudden Death OT all together.

Give each squad the ball on the 50.  No XP allowed in OT, only 2 point conversions.  Play it like college each team gets the ball until the game is no longer tied after equal possessions.

I hate college overtime rules, personally. They should keep overtime rules the same, in my opinion.

-If an offensive player fumbles the ball through the opponents end zone then the ball will be placed 10 yards behind where the fumble occurred with the offense getting to keep the ball on the next down.  If some defender pulls a Leon Lett then the offense takes over first and 10 from the opponents 11.

Also, move the Super Bowl to Saturday night or the Sunday before President's day.

I actually like the fumble into the end zone rule. I think it makes sense. The end zone is like the defense's base. They are protecting it. It is their domain. An unclaimed ball that passes into their domain becomes theirs.

Plus, it is like one of the only rules that benefits the defense.

I kind of feel like a safety should not be a thing. It should just be a touchdown if you get tackled in your own end zone. And then you kick the extra point and kick the ball back to them, just like after a normal TD. Plus, safeties are rare enough that it wouldn't impact much and it rewards the defense more.

  4. I think the rule of when a receiver has to be on the line or off the line of scrimmage is pretty arbitrary and dumb. It just wastes time getting calls for illegal formation. And it prevents offenses from being more imaginative.

I would remove some of the QB protection rules. You should be able to tackle them like any other player. Still no hitting in the head, etc, because that is illegal for any player.

Take out kneel downs and "giving yourself up" rules. You aren't down unless a defender makes contact with you.

Remove the taunting rule. Everything should be housed under "Unsportsmanlike Conduct". If a player does something bad or over the top, they can get flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct if needed. But all the taunting calls are dumb.

Get rid of "Neutral Zone Infraction". It should all be under "Offside".

Flag QB's and other players for complaining to the refs or obvious flopping. We don't want to turn into soccer. This would affect Josh Allen, but he can adjust.

I have to chuckle at Austin Rivers cause I think Josh’s odds of coming off the bench in the nba are better then someone from the nba throwing 60 yard ropes as bills qb

Hmm, he named a bunch of two sport athletes. They weren't guys who never played football. They were guys who played both and chose football over basketball. Maybe they weren't good enough to be in the NBA, though. Not sure. But the NBA has FAR fewer players than the NFL, and the NFL has way more specialized positions and roles. You can be a great athlete and go out and play special teams. You can even contribute to a specific role on offense or defense. It can be learned.

But to play as 1 of 5 players on the court, you have to be able to do everything to a baseline level, and then be great at one or two things. The two sports just aren't comparable. It's not about athleticism, really. It's more about the nature of the sports and the sheer number of bodies and roles needed for football.

That being said, there isn't a single guy in the NBA who could play QB in the NFL. That's the most difficult position in sports, in my opinion.

I would offer that Buffalo is even LESS optimal to host the draft then they are a Super Bowl.  Based on the number of attendees just in Detroit this year - that's way more people than would be in town for the Super Bowl, so where are they all going to stay?

Not all of those were visitors. I bet most were from Detroit area.

I'd like to see some more run plays NOT from the shotgun, give Cook a chance to get moving before hitting the line

I also think play action is less effective faking the run from the shotgun, but I don't think Josh likes turning his back to the defense like you need to do when you fake the handoff starting under center. I guess that's an area of growth for him.

Watched football for over 30 years now, and I've found the teams with great quarterbacks seem to do just fine.   I am not sure the Chiefs had a true #1 wideout last year and they won a championship.

As far as our WR group goes I'd argue that NE, Chargers, Green Bay, Atlanta, NO, and Arizona all have less or similar talent as the Bills.     The only spot I worry about being deficient at is QB.

The Chiefs had the WORST WR room in the NFL last year and the year before as well. They made it work by running the ball more and taking what the defense gave them, plus they have an elite TE to catch passes.

Definitely more cover 3/cover 1 on defense but I also wish Sean had Leslie's patience at times. Too many ill timed blitzes when I felt like he just got frustrated and so blitzed out of anger / frustration. I tend to think that is the worst time to blitz. Whether Sean or Bobby call the D this year I'd like to see some of the coverage evolution from last year continue but with greater patience in the playcalling.

Oh gosh. There were times I was BEGGING McDermott not to blitz. There were times he absolutely needed to drop into coverage and he didn't. He lost us at least one game by being aggressive when he shouldn't have.

But overall I really did like the change in playcalling. He brought a spark to the defense for sure. He has a better feel for calling plays and confusing the opposing offense than most. Playcalling is more than just x's and o's. There is an art to it, or an intuition. I think McDermott has that.

Building him up. McDermott knows what he’s doing. I’m sure Claypool is working his butt off but McDermott is trying to get the best out of him by boosting up his confidence.

I think he is trying to put the questions to bed. He knows that if he gives a quick answer with no substance he'll keep getting hounded about it.

If Mahomes doesn't get MVP which I think is a good chance now that he has better weapons, then I expect Josh to potentially get his first.

The talk all offseason has been and will be centred around how the Bills have taken a step back without davis and Diggs. If Allen has a great year people will really open their eyes.

Without having to feel like he must target Diggs so many times a game to appease him he'll spread the ball around more. Plus I think Brady will incorporate a lot of screens and dump offs to the RBs this season, which will kick up Allen's completion percentage,  reduce ints and result in more YAC plays

It usually goes to the QB on the team with the best record. Or the QB with monster numbers that dwarf all others. That's why Jackson got it despite having worse numbers than Allen and a bunch of other QB's.

So, if Josh wants to win MVP, the Bills need to end the season with a 1 seed.

I was torn between better and best of career but went with the latter.

I think his rushing stats will take a dip but I think he will be highly efficient passing and challenge career highs in yds/%/tds

The WR core as it stands I think is arguably the most versatile group he'll play with.

He operates best when spreading targets out and he becomes exponentially more dangerous when you don't expect the heroics as opposed to relying on them.

    I'll say: 4500yds passing, 39tds, 11int, 67comp%, 450yds rushing, 8tds

I think his rushing yards will increase. Maybe not his rushing TD's, because that was an insane number last year. But Allen is with a bunch of unproven or unfamiliar targets now, which to me means he will be more willing to keep the ball in his own hands until he develops the trust and chemistry with his new targets, which might happen fast, but might take a long time, or never...

  12. Allen's numbers were pretty terrible throwing to Gabe Davis and Stef Diggs last year, especially in the 2nd half of the season and the playoffs. Not having to force the ball to those two should be a benefit to Allen.

But, the turnover in the receiver room and the lack of top end talent might cause Allen to force the ball and play more hero ball at times. So, it might even out.

Luckily, Kincaid should take another step and establish himself as an elite TE.

While most of the time I love your posts, this one I strongly disagree with. Many veterans, wounded physically and suffering from PTS found that marijuana greatly helps in their challenging endeavors. Yes, it is federally banned but that dont make it right, at one time in this country we considered African Americans 7/8 of a person. Just because a law exists dont make it right - think prohibition. Had a family member slowly passing from cancer, used  marijuana for pain simply because it allowed him to enjoy his last days while presecribed medications left him in a stupor! I can sit on my front porch and guzzle a bottle of JD but I cant smoke a joint? To end or hinder the careers of these two players is ridiculous; and yes I am a strong defender as I support my veteran brothers and their use! I still love 99.99 % of your posts! And I am pushing 70 making me an old fart!

It doesn't matter. NFL players are not allowed. Partaking is idiotic of them.

You can say what you want about whether or not it SHOULD be a banned substance or not. But it is. So, they are dumb to risk their chance of a lifetime to play in the NFL and make real wealth.

  14. All the marijuana defenders always flock to these stories, haha.

Sorry. It is still a federally banned substance, against the law in many states, and prohibited by the NFL.

It is completely idiotic of any player in the NFL to take a risk like that.

True, but with players like Watt, Bosa, Garret, etc... teams don't rotate them. Those guys are 3-4 down players and typically only come out for a breather. We don't have that guy. Even if Miller returns to form, with his age and injuries, he will be rotated like everyone else to keep him fresh into post-season.

Yeah, we don't have that kind of player. But we've seen Ed Oliver's snap percentage increase as he has gotten better and better. I would assume that if we had an elite guy, he'd get pretty high snaps too.

Dpoy isn't in the cards for our d-line. The rotation takes away too many opportunities.

Most dlines rotate in the NFL. People who think the Bills are unique by rotating just don't understand how common it is. Not saying that is you, but I see a lot of people complaining about the dline rotation.

I actually don’t hate the idea. There are probably 100ish - 150ish guys that COULD be DPOY if things go perfectly. Miller is probably one of them. He will need to be around 20 sacks. He did have 18.5 once. Obviously he’s way less likely than Watt or Garrett or Parsons but still POSSIBLE. At 250/1, it’s worth a few bucks.

I agree. And all it takes is for Watt or Garrett to get injured and miss some weeks, and then it really opens it up.

  17. I'm not scared of Tua, but he is good. Not great, but good. I'd rather the Dolphins not sign him and then see them struggle to find another QB for a few years. Even if they find another good QB, it will take 2 or 3 years for him to develop, and then there is no guarantee he is better than Tua. Chances are he'll be worse.

So, I'd rather see a QB carousel in Miami, honestly. Finding an elite QB is extremely hard to do. That's why they have to pay Tua, because even though he isn't elite, he is good, and the alternative is far too risky.
