Love this kid. He better be great

Love the attitude. Love the drive.

Hate that he mentioned that he wasn't born when Michael Jordan played. Makes me feel really old. He owes me a cookie for that.

  2. I like this idea, yet have another that will over time increase the board quality and overall enjoyment for all.

We have a poll a day that we all get to vote on to eliminate one poster a day from the board. TBD: Survivor Mode, so to speak. Those added to the poll are the top 5 people that received thumbs down or the like votes or started topics that were of the "Let's Trade Josh Allen to the Bears" level.

  3. In a weird way, I think I'm more comfortable with the idea of this 5th round rookie starting at C instead of McGovern. And that's not a knock against McGovern because I do like him a lot. But he hasn't been working at C much since what...high school? Meanwhile, VPG has been the starter at a major college in a major conference and on National Championship teams. He's battle tested and used to setting protections and playing the position.

I think McGovern at LG, VPG at C and Edwards back at that "6th OL" position gives this group the strongest potential.

Legal troubles aside, the league's personal conduct policy doesn't care how the he said/she said narrative turns out. He's at a club in the wee hours of Monday morning getting into an altercation that turns into a police report, just weeks after causing a multi-car accident while drag racing.

Honestly wouldn't be totally surprised if the league makes an example out of him and slaps him with like a 10 game suspension. Maybe more. There have been too many recent occurrences of NFL players involved in high speed incidents and this latest legal problem of his is the cherry on top.

I would be. This isn't directed at you but more the theme of fans in general. But...Seems like a broken record at this point whenever someone gets in trouble. Leage should "make an example".  High speed incidents. Domestic violence. Drug violations. All slaps on the wrist. So why would they do anything shockingly harsh now?

As long as it doesn't turn out Rice placed a bet at a sports book place, I don't see any long term major punishment. Seems to be the only broken rule the league takes seriously. NFL discipline is a complete joke.

He can hold. He actually held for Matt Araiza when he was the guy at SDSU. But the last two years Browning took over the job and served as both punter and placekicker as well as handled kickoffs. Career long FG of 61. Apparently has a live leg. I don’t know of he really unseats Martin, but he is definitely interesting and may improve being able to focus on punting alone.

Hm. Could be an interesting PS stash when all is said and done. Let Martin start the year while Browning hones his skill. And shoot, if he can kick as well that's double coverage for both specialists in one PS spot. Not terrible value in that IMO.

I'm sure they are concerned but his contract is brutal. Hopefully he gets back to his old self this year and we don't need to worry about a replacement.

If I'm reading the numbers correctly, it's not near as bad as people make out.

Let's say he's cut in TC. It would leave behind $4.32M in dead cap this year. But we theoretically will have a little extra cash from the Tre White contract to absorb that.

After that starting next season it would leave behind dead cap hits of slightly over $1M a season in 2025, 2026 and 2027.

However, it would also open the following in cap money:

    2025- $3.650M

    2026- $3.950M

    2027- $4.3M

In other words after an initial hit this year moving forward that would be enough to pay his replacement and depending on the kicker have a little left over.

I would prefer he gets his game worked out and stays, however it doesn't look like it's some impossible financially crippling task if he looks bad in TC or early in the season and they have to move on.

Always thought Fowler provided good if not great coverage and insight on a variety of nfl subjects,  so I was happy to see this write up on our 4th round RB.

Also had no clue he was only the 3rd 4th round pick Beane has made here, with the 2 others being Taron and Gabe, some great value for the 4th round. Will Ray Ray continue the trend?

I found the pick of Davis pretty interesting. At the time Beane picked there were still quite a few of the "big name" RBs left on the board. Some really interesting prospects. And this was who they took over all of them. I think they got the guy they wanted at the place they got him. Hopefully, it works out well. I like what I've seen from his clips. Like the way he runs.

  8. Absolutely not. For a few reasons.

First off, Burks doesn't bring anything to the room that we don't now have with Keon Coleman. And from what I've seen so far from Burks at the NFL level, Coleman has the higher ceiling.

Second, I'm not really sure about Elam yet. It's been 2 seasons since he was drafted. We knew going into his career (or at least common sense should have weighed in) that he may take time to adjust to the Bills system. We drafted Benford the same year who was plug and play ready as he was experienced playing these coverages. His first season gets a pass IMO for the adjustment. Into his first full off-season, from camp reports Elam was said to be looking really good. He was running with the first team a large part of training camp. Then PS game 3 Benford moved past him and many were surprised. Turns out the guy injured his ankle and was playing through it. Sucks, but it happens. After coming off IR he looked decent. He looked like what he is IMO, a kid with tons of talent that needs more game reps.

Third, and this is of course just my opinion...but long term CB is a lot more of a need that WR. Over the next 2 years we have Coleman, Shakir and Samuel locked in. Absolute BEST case scenario...Burks is WR4/5. And he doesn't offer anything on STs. Would be hard for him to even see a jersey on game day IMO barring injury.

Even if none of the other dart throws (Claypool, Shorter, Shavers ect) work out there are good WRs available every off-season. More and more the top of the draft has pro ready WRs.

CB is usually a bit thinner in FA and the draft. And while our 2 outside CBs seem set for this year, Douglas is getting older. Benford gets banged up a bit. Who do we really have behind them...not only this year but also going into next? Sure seems like it would be great if Elam progressed.  I'm betting on him locking down CB3 and getting enough snaps due to injury to show what he can (or cannot) do.

I want to see how he looks now with Babich running the defense.

  9. I liked Murphy. He had a tough lead to follow after we were spoiled with Van Miller for so long. While not perfect, he made the position his own and carved a place for himself in Buffalo Bills history. Congratulations to him on a great career.

That said, agree they need an overhaul on the position moving forward. Chris Brown is a good team cheerleader....uh...reporter...but his announcing is just not great. Only thing I'm afraid of is if they moved on from him Sal C gets the job.

  10. Small nugget in there I found interesting. When the Bills were on the board late they wanted a returner and selected Hardy. That's what they referred to him as. That tells me they view him as a KR/PR and what they may get from him at CB is a bonus IMO.

He's making the roster and playing on Sundays unless he totally craps the bed in TC.

This isn't coming from one specific example, but collection of public appearances since the incident occurred (interviews, red carpet events, etc). He's been soaking up his time in the spotlight, and good for him personally. But this is not someone that has been humbled by a traumatic experience and now has his head down focused on football. He's a glorified celebrity that probably won't play another meaningful NFL down. I doubt we will get anything for him, and you hate to cut him PR wise, but as a football move it probably will be necessary absent a bad safety injury in camp.

So, basically because he doesn't act like you feel he should. I don't know how you would know how his focus is on football. Sounds like a lot of projection based on personal feelings rather than anything fact based.

Why do so many people seem to think that other teams are clamoring for the opportunity to acquire crappy players?  Do you put every banana peel on eBay instead of throwing it in the trash thinking that someone else must want it?

Normally I would agree wholeheartedly with this statement. However in this case I don't think the Steelers being willing to give a conditional 2026 7th or something to bring home the Pittsburgh native, that played at Pitt and is a huge fan favorite/goodwill ambassador is that far fetched. They may even be able to set him up on the practice squad and let him do his thing in his own hometown. The PR would be worth the throwaway pick IMO.

The truth is any backup player generating press for non-football related reasons is a distraction. And I hate to say this, but it appears fame has gotten to Damar's head a little bit. Trading him to Pitt is a better PR move than just cutting him outright, but he probably shouldn't be on the roster this year regardless.

Not saying anything about you being right/wrong here...but can you provide an example of what you see that makes you believe this? Maybe a link to an interview you've seen that shows it? Or something?

It's ridiculous to rule out a trade.  Lets not buy into Beane's smokescreens.  Look at the situation, a pathetic WR room, plenty of draft capital and money being available after June 1st.  The Bills didn't pick up 2 rookie WRs in the draft, and didn't take any of the better FA WRs-did you ever wonder why?.  It was always the plan to trade for one.

Trade options are a far better discussion.

D Metcalf is rumored available - part of trading draft capital will be for getting Metcalf's relatively cheap salary , $16M.

DHop would seem another option, $13M and could extend him another year and play all kinds of cap games.  Shouldn't take as much draft capital to get him because Tenn picked him up on the open market.

B Aiyuk/D Samuel would probably be at the upper end- but solid possibilities.

DJ Moore/K Allen - Chicago has too many WRs that would hamper the opportunity of a top 10 pick (Rome).

This is the quality of WRs we should be discussing.  Any one of those additions totally reshapes the Bills WR room.

Aside from the comment about the June 1st money this was exactly almost word for word the argument about MLB this time last year after the draft.

People talk themselves into thinking Beane sees the roster the exact same way they do...and then go off when it turns out he doesn't. I would bet that Beane sees the WR room very much like he saw MLB last year.

We'll only save 100k by cutting Bass and eat $4.32m.  He pry gets another year without competition but if he struggles early in the season they'll bring another guy in.  Maybe they bring in a camp guy but I doubt it.

This is true, however if cut this year his savings would be:

    2025- $3.65M

    2026- $3.95M

    2027- $4.30M

Each of those years we would also see a dead cap of just a bit over $1M a season. In short, it wouldn't save much this year but going forward if Bass struggles it looks like they can not only get out from the contract somewhat painlessly...but also end up with a net profit after paying his replacement as well depending on who it would be.

For a time there, the face of our franchise was Brian Moorman.......a punter.

Yeah, just let that sink in.

Exactly. For most of Brady's time in NE we just were not a serious franchise.

It reminds me of how when Brady was with the pats they could do no wrong because they won all the SBs and beat the bills like 22 straight times or something but in reality a lot was being ***** up and it was all just covered up by Brady. Once he was gone, everything crumbled. Same will happen with chiefs whenever mahomes gets injured or leaves.

I agree...much the same way every FA was "going to the Pats and going to become a star" is the same with "ohhh he's about to sign with he Chiefs. Just watch".
