  1. Link Just !@#$ing stupid that reapportionment of the electoral college includes census #s of illegals.
  2. Vanilla Coke went away for about a year or so in the middle of the decade. Thought it was gone for good, but they changed the word order and added it back to the repertoire. It's still hard to find in some places. On road trips to WNY the past couple of years (when I have to have caffeine for the drive), you look in a lot of quick-stop places and they don't have it. In fact, I haven't seen it in 2-liter or 20oz plastic bottles... only in supermarket 12 - 12oz. can packs.
  3. AVS thread The new FCC chairman comes from wireless broadband. And quel surprise, his vision includes dissolving UHF spectrum and using it for.... wireless broadband. Govt claimed control of the airwaves to 'protect the public property' and then they sell it off for one-time $. Just an extension of the New London eminent domain ruling --- govt takes public asset and gives it to a private company so they can pull in marginally more tax $ (and, just to note, this action BLEW UP IN THE CITY'S FACE this fall when Pfizer moved out! Moral of the story: Govt should be sticking their fingers into fewer pies, not more). It's a boondoggle, and anyone who says it's anything else is kidding themselves. Telcos want to force those still using OTA to pay for TV. Telcos have so many politicians in their pockets, they walk with a limp. Gifting the airwaves will not result in telcos farting rainbows and free broadband for all. It will not result in rural areas getting broadband any more than rural areas get good OTA service. It's about Telcos getting control, reducing choice/competition, getting a virtual monopoly. They spent a lot of money on the digital conversion coupons, confused a lot of people with false info and three digital delays. Citizens bought converters or new TVs with internal tuners, new antennas, new preamplifiers, new wiring, etc. I spent ~$500 on a new antenna system for our house in good faith that doing so would be a 15-20 year investment. I want that money back if/when that equipment or it's capability becomes downgraded or useless b/c the FCC et al. lied about their intentions. If they touch OTA much beyond what they've already done, I will be shoving my new 5' Yagi antennas up some politicians' and telco bosses' asses. And make no mistake. If you think this isn't your fight b/c you don't have OTA, you're wrong. When they ram this through, they'll move on with even more spring in their step.
  4. Have been cutting back a lot, as my dentist (my cousin) threatened to kick my ass, but my favorite is Vanilla Coke.
  5. I, for one, didn't say to stop everything and switch to something that'll be even worse. Tides change w/ defensive schemes, and changing to the 3-4 right now would be coming to it too late in the game. Problem I see is that this team should be running a conventional 4-3. Not this C-2 crap. We need bigger bodies. And, no, we don't have the LBs for the 4-3, nevermind a 3-4. We need at least one starting LB and 2 decent LB depth picks (this is the area to have depth at; the most injured corps on any team by nature of the positions). Then, a DT and probably 2 DEs. Jauron absolutely gutted the D's size with his manlove for CB physiques. If Frazier were to bulk the D up, all right. But we also need someone to grab the buffalo's horns on offense, salvage something from the OL, and magically develop a QB and WRs. Saunders is more of the same of what's been here the last 15 years and no identity will be established on O.
  6. This franchise needs someone who will bring it back to Buffalo-style football. Willing to give a chance, but if Frazier does what is expected, keeping the C2 and hiring friggin' Saunders as OC, I fail to see how anything will have changed. Such a combination will have a very short leash with my expectations. And you just know this will be the decision b/c Ralph has a severe case of Old Man Syndrome and fears change.
  7. It was a theory of mine toward the end of the S5 thread (it was after we first saw Jacob, and I had rewatched S1). Adam Rutherford was Shannon's father, Boone's step-father. And yes, he was the guy who Jack didn't save in the ER, instead concentrating solely on Sarah. It was something about the nose, tuft of hair and the purposeful camera angle of the coffin scene during that episode, combined with the purposeful covering of his face in the ER scene that makes me think there's more to Adam Rutherford. Jacob left the island to touch certain of the Lostaways.... Why is it implausible for him to have had a family off-island? It's like how we saw Locke's coffin a year before we found out it was Locke in there. Huh. I read Cuse and Lindelof say there were going to be no footage preview scenes in the promos, b/c even a second's glimpse would give away what they're doing for S6. Are you sure it wasn't just a compendium of previous seasons' footage? i.e. when Charlie said, "Where are we?" after learning the content of Rousseau's broadcast and that it had been playing for 16 years. As to your belief.... [yellow-fonted for spoiler]. The premise of the Swan apparently not being built and 815 never crashing is at least the initial direction of S6. I think that's where Jacob's touch comes in, tho.
  8. Based on his speech manner, which is usually pretty blunt/short/curt/ornery/, I am firmly in the 'We don't want to hire someone just because they have a [big] name' camp as what RW probably intended to say. Only thing was, it didn't come out that way at all.... We got, 'We don't want someone with a [big] name.' Bit of difference there. In recent years, it's like speech is so physically draining that he wants to do the least amount possible. But even when he did speak more, it was often w/o tact. It would really help the franchise if Ralph would stop being publicly involved. Just stop appearing at pressers to talk, stop making public comments. That's what Russ is here for. Refer to him for commenting so the whole idea sees print, rather than what Ralph can manage to wheeze out. Put your input during FO/team meetings. Go to games in the box. OK, you can even go to the big pressers if you want, just don't talk.
  9. But seriously, I want to reiterate my S5-thread theory that Jacob = Adam Rutherford. Just in case I'm right, I want this on the record and my credit due!
  10. Conjuring a Roland Hedley tweet: Obama and LOST smoke monster never seen in same room, now won't appear on same night or time. Think about it; some see it as white, some see it as black.... Hmm.
  11. Unless DW was using the "Royal We'" in the last sentence of the quote, it reads, Using the word 'we' indicates he still identifies as a Bill and expects to be back. That's not the language of disgruntlement or worry about being cut outright by a new GM/coach before camp. If he had said "they" you might have the beginning of a point. Personally, I would like to see how DW performs in a defense that does not routinely align CBs 10 yards off of the LOS before the snap. Whether we get a coach that will finally change this moronic scheme remains to be seen.
  12. How about something to the tune of "Elenor Rigby"? "All the lonely Bills fans / Where do they all come from"
  13. Until watching the DVDs, I didn't remember catching that either. I think I may have chalked it up to 'Oh. They'll probably just disappear like they did on the Ajira flight.' But Richard says, "They all died." If they had disappeared, Richard would've said they disappeared. (He had just recently seen time-traveling Locke disappear after taking the bullet out of his leg, so one would assume Richard should know the difference.) Also, if you're waiting for any sneak peek in the previews as it gets closer to 2 Feb... Darlton are intentionally not showing a single scene of the new season in the previews. They say that showing even a second of material will give up what they are doing in S6.
  14. I was going to post this a few days ago but wasn't ambitious enough to dredge up the thread. There is another skull in the recess of the large rock at the left edge. In all of the promos so far, it's been heavy with religious tie-ins (e.g. Willy singing "Amazing Grace") but that's not really out of sorts for the show. This show is kind of like a second bible (since the original bible's story finished. Armeggedon as it was described actually already happened during the Roman Empire. That book has been fulfilled. Just, lots of people in this world who are nowhere near ready to let it go). Here, we have new examples of sacrifice, forgiveness, love, begetting, kidnapping, future-seeing prophets, miraculous healings, people who worship false idols (e.g. Nikki and Paulo's diamonds, the heroin statues), death and resurrection, killing, doubt, acceptance... all the themes are covered. I know this is probably not the primary avenue of intent, but it's interesting to think of it that way. For some predictions, after watching S5 on DVD.... I think the Jughead detonation will work insofar as the Swan's energy pocket is nulled and the future is affected by that. But, Richard said something key last season... that he saw all of the O6 + Sawyer, Jin and Miles die in '77. Now, he wasn't there at the Incident. That tells us that there isn't a nuclear blast as such. Something else happens to that group. Now, the Swan construction was a violation of the Truce, which would allow the '77 Others to kill the offenders and then the war with Dharma would be back on. But, even if they are killed in '77 (this will likely be a shocker of a episode for the uninitiated), but the Swan is never built, 815 never crashes. They die, but in another, alternate timeline. Still, the island has it in for these people, and through Jacob's touch, they will be back.
  15. I think The British Museum has it.
  16. If Jauron has someone keeping his worst inclinations in check (like Coughlin), he can be a good coordinator. If told, "You're going to run this kind of D, and these guys are going to be your players," he'll probably be a lot more successful. When he has the reins of roster management, though, look out for some serious DB homo-eroticism. Also, the Giants struggles in games I saw this season seemed to be pass D... along with getting guys back from injury, DL and LB won't be their problem so much as CB and S. DJ can develop a secondary, if nothing else.
  17. Oh, come on, Lori. What would our friend Roland Hedley do?
  18. From a coach who only finally won the Super Bowl with a rookie QB?
  19. If it is Cowher, what's the deal with him and Bobby April? I remember there being some friction which led to April's departure from Pitt. Then again, this was also the case with Cowher and LeBeau in on-again off-again stints. Have he and April patched it up since?
  20. This is nothing like a top priority. The point is that most everything required for a switch could be done in about 4 minutes, by an intern. That's no exaggeration. All that is needed is say-so from Russ Brandon.
  21. And it would be simple enough. Both home and away designs are now designed, copyrighted, etc. Send a note to the league saying, "We're switching unis to the throwbacks. Regards." Leave this decade behind.
  22. Donahoe actually initiated the creation of the throwbacks. It was probably his best move at OBD. As I've written before, I wouldn't expect a change until a new owner takes over.
  23. To be pretty clear, Iran doesn't have a representative government anymore (if they ever did). They have the Revolutionary Guard. And throwing rocks against machine guns and tanks, is yet another example of why any truly free people must have the individual right to bear arms, and exercise that right. Not sure what is meant by "opportunity for true greatness." The U.S. is in no kind of position to threaten much of anything. If you're talking toughening sanctions more, they'll just crack down even harder, moderates will hate us, and it'll drive them full-bore into their nuclear activity. Military action is just about impossible. It's sad to have to watch, but it's how their country is run. Can only hope that someone pops Kohmeni and Amadinejad.
  24. This is going to be a drubbing. And as for the interest level... it took until 6 minutes in for a game thread to start.
  25. Pete, Volek could have thrown for 1,000 yards a game and it wouldn't have mattered, given his mindset to be a career backup. He was an unrestricted free agent, received interest from several teams, and chose to stay in Tenn behind McNair. Volek got on Fisher's bad side by "lying" (the circumstances are nebulous, as Fisher hasn't said any more on the subject) and then forcing a trade when he had a prime shot to succeed McNair a couple of years later. Traded to SD, and as an UFA last year he re-signed for 3 year under Philip Rivers. He had two opportunities while he was in his prime, squandered one and lost the other, then had a third chance and stayed in SD. (Admittedly, at 32, I'd stay in SD too). Don't write that Volek has not had an opportunity to be a starter. This is a league where opportunity for most guys, never comes, or comes around once and is usually derailed by injury, etc. He's had the opportunity three times and declined each.
