  1.

    Clayton Thorson*, QB, Northwestern
    Height: 6-4. Weight: 225.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.78.
    Projected Round (2018): 1-3.
9/28/17: Scouts who have been through Northwestern have told me that they were impressed with what they saw from Thorson (6-4, 225) on tape and in practice. Thorson has shown that he has pro potential in terms of his skill set. He can throw the deep out with a fastball that can be fit into tight windows.
Thorson has quality mechanics with a quick delivery. Scouts say that he has a super strong arm, is smart, athletic, and has improved as a junior.

Dont see it at all with Thorson. He and Drew Locke come up as darlings in the scouting world so I am obviously missing something on both of them.

  2. I didn't have Fournette nearly as high as most. He's a physical runner with great speed but constantly battled injuries and was a little soft. Zeke was a better prospect than Fournette. His game was/is more complete (although the odd the field stuff is concerning). Peterson is the best pure runner that I remember coming out since Sanders. Barkley has it all though. He's a surefire star.

Agree to disagree on this one. I think it's close but Fournette was incredibly underrated as a pass catcher, averaged 12 yards a reception to Zeke's 8.

Fournette was trending towards, if not on the same level as Peterson after his Sophomore year. I think his Junior year changed a lot of that, but it was clear he had checked out and was on to the NFL.

  3. they're driving this agenda of division. from hollywood celebs to entitled athletes dumber than rocks.

there is no innocence to this. the agenda being pushed is simple and athletes are some of the stupidest people on the planet, right above kardashian level.

they blindly follow what pop culture is doing for the most part. they think people care what they say. but between the coasts these idiots travel between there is a world they will never know. a much better culture where there is no division, where there is no differences which they seem to fuel, a world in which harmony is achieved daily.

but that does not fit the agenda of those looking to simply be an !@#$. this is not about the president, this is simply about those who are looking to espouse the popular opinion as some elite thinker to be against an establishment. this is the liberal agenda.

Thread ended. Couldnt be more dead on.

  4. For the record I have no issue with the Watkins deal despite his coming out party in primetime last night for the Rams. We all know his history here and at least we got something for him.

But make no mistake about it, just like with the Chiefs 1st rounder, this Rams 2nd round pick is also looking like it will in the bottom third of selections because this Ram's team is going to be decent this year and I wouldn't be surprised if they sneak up and win that division since the only real threat is the Seahawks whose offense is terrible and can't score either. Plus the Rams have owned that series in recent years anyway even with much worse teams.

I hope Terry Pegula paid attention last night though watching former Bills on both teams light it up and make plays. Beane and McDermott are not proven commodities and certainly don't deserve a '5 year plan' or whatever BS they are already likely feeding the Pegulas.

Unlike the Bills the Rams are doing the right thing and building around a quarterback they picked in the 1st round. Honestly, the Bills should have went for it this year. I have to imagine McBeane gets more than just three years to do this thing, think about it next year will be the first year with a new quarterback of their choosing and they will already be in year two. Does it make any sense to fire them in year three with only two full years with the quarterback they chose?

If they get anything less than four years here it will be a mistake.

  5. He doesnt know how to throw wideouts open and he wont risk throwing to someone who is even half way covered to try and let his wideout win. There is no excuse for an NFL quarterback to throw under 150 yards in a game, none. He may not be the only issue, but he is the only player on the team that can impact those problems enough to mask them or illuminate them.

They better figure out if they want to try and make the playoffs, fail and win six to seven games or if they want to get a franchise quarterback because while the draft has two or three of them potentially they wont be there at 12 or 15 or whatever pick we end up with trying to win now and win later

  6. Who on that UCLA offense helps him. Cool you talk about body of work for 1. And one play on the other.

How good would Rosen look on an offense surrounded by elite talent like Darnold? He has all the tools and mechanics and talent to make that elite talent around at USC to be the best offense in the nation.

Not talking about one play. I think his body of work is incredibly hyped because he makes for a good article. Ive watched the games, I am not impressed. He holds the ball a very long time for someone who is flawless in his ability to read defenses and drop "dimes". I think he is a first round guy but I dont think he should enter the conversation for top ten. He has accuracy and leadership issues, not a proven winner, and his arm strength is overblown.

I Dont know how he'd be on USC, no clue but I know I dont think he is as good as the hype suggests, and if he wasnt verbose I dont think a lot of others would either.

  7. Rosen is so polarizing on this board its impossible to get an accurate portrayl of him. Not sure if people are watching the games or basing their opinions off of liking or disliking personally but I am still amazed by all his hype.

Not going to argue it anymore because its been beaten to death, but for context sake Texas A and M beat Nicholls by ten points last week, they were also down to UL Layfaette this week before winning. Easily take Darnold, Rudolph, and Mayfield before him. However it seems a lot of Bills fans love him, including our AM morning guy who is very impressed with Rosen's podcast...tell me again how little time you have for school.

  8. ^^we'll see! history is on my side with these types of cases. he was a longshot to make it without the character concerns. not pro material imo

The good news is smart money is on both of us being right. Quarterback success rate in the NFL is something around 19% of those drafted.

Agree to disagree and wait to see how it turns out.

  9. the Manziel comparison has been made by a lot of college football experts. he's a small guy that does well in a college spread offense, but that doesn't translate to the NFL. also, he's a loose cannon off the field and likes to party. after what we saw from Manziel, i wouldn't be surprised if some teams took Mayfield completely off their board.

What are Josh Rosen's character concerns? That he had a hot tub in his dorm room and he likes to read and talk about politics? Otherwise he's a stand up guy from a well-to-do family and was the top rated QB in the nation coming out of high school. Mayfield wasnt' even recruited, had to walk on, quit school because he was being a cry baby about the coach not guaranteeing a starting job for him (who is ever guaranteed a job?), transferred without even talking to the coaches involved and had to sit out a year (poor judgement), and he was tackled by police trying to run away after public intoxication (the typical weekend for him I've heard). Mayfield is an arrogant little poo. I'd be surprised if he even made an NFL roster let alone be a starting QB in this league

guys like him and Manziel and Chad Kelly don't make it in professional sports because you have to be just that...professional

I feel like we may have had this exact discussion in another thread. Feel like you're generalizing about Mayfield being a loose cannon from one incident. The Manziel comparison to me is a bit lazy. Not every athletic "short" quarterback from a spread offense is Johnny Manziel. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, just feel like this one is wrong. Mayfield makes passes I dont think Manziel could have made. I'd love to see the comparison between Mayfield's and Manziel's average time between snap and throw. I think that would put the comparison to bed quickly.

When looking at both Mayfield and Rosen, simply put I think they both have jerk tendecies, but in terms of pure arrogance Mayfield is nowhere near Rosen. If you want to portray Rosen as a well read forward thinking person thats fine, but to me he comes across as a person who has very little clue about real life and comes across as immature and ignorant because of it. I dont get the sense he is a team first leader. But make no mistake about it, he has character issues. Its been well publicized he isnt well liked by his teammates, ala Connor Cook.

Also, think its a little early to put Chad Kelly in the same category as Manziel. Statsitically speaking its likely, but it could be for any number of reasons.

  10. He absolutely will not be a 1st round pick lol. He is very much Johnny Manziel 2.0 and teams won't make that mistake again. I know people around OU and he's a drunk and a jerk and he's definitely not even 6 feet tall. I wrote that before the Ohio State game and maybe that bumps him up a little and if he plays well rest of year he might be 2nd or 3rd round pick because teams are dumb and desperate. It will 100% not be the Bills though. You think McBeane would stake their careers on a guy with character concerns like this at the most important position? There's no chance.

Please explain the Manziel comparison outside of playing in a spread offense? Manziel was a dual threat QB. Mayfield is athletic but is so far from being a dual threat, he averages 22 rushing yards a game. His mobility is inside the pocket, does he scramble outside of the tackle box yes, but thats more akin to someone like Tyrod Taylor. Manziel was a sand lot football player.

The height thing remains to be seen, but standing next to a 6'2 reporter after last weeks game he wasn't dwarfed. Personally think Rosen's character concerns are much worse than Mayfields'.

  11. Easily my favorite player in college football right now. I dont think he can challenge Darnold as the #1QB in the class, just doesnt have the physical stature. However, I dont think its unfair to say he should be in the conversation for #2 with Mason Rudolph.

The Manziel comparisons are probably a bit unfair. Totally different animal. Manziel was extremely talented and may have been an amazing pro if he cared the least bit about football. Manziel also ran a lot, Mayfield doesnt do that nearly as well. Mayfield has also started a lot more games, including games against quality competition.

Manziel had Evans to throw it up to, Mayfield doesnt have a player like that. He is a throw first QB and I think he is incredibly underrated because of his height. Not saying it shouldnt be an issue, however Russell Wilson and Drew Brees are examples that it isnt always the rule.

  12. I dont think the issue was ever not resigning TD Mike, the issue was not putting a higher round tender on him. Should have learned from the lesson the year before with Hogan.

To your point on Banyard, reminds me a lot of TD Mike. But he has to show he can hold onto the ball.

  13. Mason Rudolph and Baker Mayfield were my favorites going into the season and they both showed out huge in week 1.

Darnold is a tough on to figure out huge wind up like Byron Leftwich but he is a winner.

Josh Allen has amazing arm talent some of the best Ive ever seen. Just not sure he is a legit NFL Qb. Think Rosen is 100% hype. His tape is about as average as they come, dont get the Rodgers comparisons with sub 60% completion percentage.
