  1. Mason Rudolph and Baker Mayfield were my favorites going into the season and they both showed out huge in week 1.

Darnold is a tough on to figure out huge wind up like Byron Leftwich but he is a winner.

Josh Allen has amazing arm talent some of the best Ive ever seen. Just not sure he is a legit NFL Qb. Think Rosen is 100% hype. His tape is about as average as they come, dont get the Rodgers comparisons with sub 60% completion percentage.

  2. Really like Mason Rudolph and feel like he will be the QB that starts climbing draft boards when the season starts. Also really like James Washington but feel like round three is a little low for him. As it stands right now, and its early, I'd expect him to go late round one.

I'd say the same for Chubb who is currently considered as a 1st round pick. Otherwise this looks good to me.

  3.

They moved the ball I think once?

The problem with Manziel is that he can't improvise like he did in college. He literally would just throw it up to Evans and he would just out physical all the other DB's.

Now he has to learn the game, from the pocket, read coverages etc.....all things he needs to be committed to and put the time in. He wasn't willing to do that. He once showed up at a Browns practice so hungover he couldn't participate.

Losman is now an assistant coach for Clemson.

I have no idea what Edwards is doing.

Wasnt Edwards one of the designers of that interactive football simulator for NFL QB's aimed at showing real game scenarios to speed up development?

Pretty sure it was called the 3 and Out and focused heavily on unblocked corners and safeties coming unblocked off the edge.

  4. Followed quickly by this:

The TSN report regarding the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats and quarterback Johnny Manziel is partially right, and its’ partially dead wrong.

Yes, the Tiger-Cats have given Manziel a workout. But, no, they haven’t decided that he’s not ready to resume his football career, due to “too many red flags” or otherwise.

  5.

As soon as he became a suspect, Hernandez's contract was immediately terminated. I might be interpreting this wrong so correct me if I am...but you're not insinuating that the Pats knew of the murders and turned a blind eye until he was publicly named a suspect?

His contract was terminated when he became a suspect in the Odin Llyod deal. He was involved in a shooting prior to that, granted not a suspect in that shooting but they were aware of him being there. They were also aware of his ties to gang activity coming out of Florida. Pretty well documented that he liked to show off his gang related tattoos to his coaches.

They were aware of him being a bad guy, and the ties he had with unfavorable people. They turned a blind eye to that until it was obvious he was going to face charges.

  6.

I think if they knew Hernandez had potential to be a part of a double homicide, I think it would have been different.

Also, did Hernandez get in trouble a lot while in New England?

I am pretty sure the murder in Boston happened while he was still a part of the team. They knew what he was capable of, and were also very aware of his gang ties when they drafted him. They didnt release him until it was readily apparent to the entire world he was a murderer.

  7. Guys, let's use logic here.

If the Bills traded for Nelson or any other Cardinal and they were transporting him back they would have announced the trade before the flight arrived. They would have been required to file with the league and it would have gotten out that way. Geez.

Agreed. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but Jordan Matthews arrived via Buffalo Airport and they send the private jet for JJ Nelson? Not likely. This is the only site that has any report of this being a possibility. Not going to hold my breath on this one.

  8. Big Notre Dame fan and watching him over two years there he reminded me a lot of E.J, Manuel. Big, good arm, athletic but just made a lot of bad throws and poor decisions. That said, I wasnt high on him coming out.. We will see I suppose.

I will say I love what the Browns have done over the last few years. I was actually excited to watch them Monday and I never watch NFL Preseason outside of the Bills. They were fun to watch on defense, really flying around. Peppers looks like a good pick as well.

  9. Think you end up with

    Matthews

    Jones

    Holmes

    Brown

    Tate

    Powell

    Reilly or Dez Lewis

Think Streater ends up on IR. Not sure how anyone thinks this is any worse than last year. Watkins was hurt, Woods was and is a subpar number 2, Goodwin shouldnt have been anything more than a kick returner, and then you had Powell, Justin Hunter, and Brandon Tate. Not to mention the Percy Harvin experiment.

Bottom line is for the most part pass catchers are the creation of pass throwers. With a good quarterback Matthews, Jones, and Holmes are plenty good enough.

  10. In a sport - big time college football - where it's almost commonplace to hear about players arrested for rape, assaults, drug use, robbery and any number of truly serious off field behavior, this is pretty thin soup, wouldn't you say?.

    In reverse order:

Probably golfed for free, as a guest.

Didn't say what you claim he said about Alabama players. Not even close.

A vulgar word about Trump? Not surprising that "regular folks" are behaving coarsely when the president himself is vulgar, loutish, sexist and racist. "What's sauce for the goose..." and all that.

Inflatable hot tub in his dorm room? What's next with this kid? A coffee maker in his room? The most shocking thing about this is...he lives in a dorm room like an ordinary studens and not in off-campus digs like so many other big time athletes do (check out USC). He must be a reverse snob. No way we want someone like him in Buffalo.

His exact quote on Alabama players

"OK, raise the SAT requirement at Alabama and see what kind of team they have." So yes, that is very close to saying Alabama players are less educated than players at other schools, or wouldnt be able to make it at other schools due to their lack of education or intelligence. How is that not close?

Secondly, the fact that he wore the hat is a fact. You made an assumption he didnt pay to golf there.

Third, just because the person you are being vulgar about is indeed vulgar, it does not negate the fact you're being vulgar and disrespectful. Not going to get into it about the President.

Lastly, I dont rightfully care if he is a jerk, Just dont want him on the Bills.

  11. I realize we live in a time when our highest elected officials feel free to voice whatever crazy stuff enters their minds, no matter how false. But TBD holds to a higher standard: most here prefer to stick to facts and to be clear when just putting forth opinions and "gut feelings." So:

Could you enlighten us as to what these "tons" of issues are? How about even 1 of his off field horrors? And how about a teensy bit of evidence that he's a "spoiled rich kid?" While you're doing this research to back up your so far unsupported assertions, could you also present some evidence that he's an " arrogant intellectual"?

    Ill help,

Hot tub in his dorm room

Wearing a hat adorned with a curse word on it relating to our President while golfing at a golf course the President owns.

Stereotyping players who go to Alabama as uneducated people who wouldnt make it at other colleges

How much do you think it costs to golf at Trump's course? Just following up on the arrogant rich kid portion here.

  12.

Rosen's teams have won 58 percent of the games he's started in. Let's see how he does this season.

    As for the others:

Winston: he played on a team that saw 18 players drafted in 2014 and 2015, and 8 of them went in the first two rounds. One of the most loaded teams in recent history.

Mariota; Ditto. 28 Ducks were drafted by the NFL from 2009-2015, and 8 in the first 3 rounds from 2013-15 (the years Mariota started). Put Mariota on Cal and see what happens.

Luck: Not quite ditto, but Stanford's program has been great. 4 guys from his final year there were drafted in the first 2 rounds. He is also the best prospect to come out in a long, long time. Rosen is not as good as him.

Cousins: Good college player on a good college team with an excellent coach. He also was handing off to the best NFL running back in the game right now (Le'Veon Bell) and was backed by a very good defense.

Carr: I like him, but Fresno State did not beat one good team in Carr's entire career there. They mostly play very weak teams, although the few times they played good teams, they lost every single time.

The bottom line: football is the ultimate team sport.

Going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Could make the point that the quarterback’s level on play is what elevated the remainder of the team and had them on the board to be drafted in the first place. Good points on the number of players drafted on those teams. Just wondering how many of those same players were quality draft picks in the NFL?

Just dont think Rosen is anywhere near the player he is made out to be, particularly in the areas of accuracy, leadership, ball security and winning. He has a nice arm, but its not special. He isn’t overly accurate, not even 60% (recognize his stats aren’t inflated because of the prostyle offense) and he hasn’t played in or won enough games for me to consider him a high or even low 1st round pick. I think Darnold and Rudolph will both be better pros. Also think Mayfield will be better but recognize how much of a wild card he is. For what its worth I love Allen’s arm but think he is overrated as well.

The good news is I am just some goof who isn’t paid a dime to try and figure these things out, so I could be completely wrong.

  13. QBs do not win games - teams do. That's an iron law of TBD discussion, at least in my opinion. No offense, but I tend to immediately discount people who invoke QB win-loss records, especially for college QBs. Jared Goff was on teams that went 14-23 in games he started, yet he was a phenomenal college QB.

The point the article makes is that he has played well but was cursed by one of the worst rushing offenses in all of college football last season (115th out of 125 teams using advanced stats).

Understood, we are just on completely different ends of the spectrum. I think if you look at the successful teams in the NFL, one thing sets them apart and that’s their Quarterback. The difference in margin of talent in the NFL is so minimal, that you need to find the equalizer, and the equalizer, at least in my opinion is the man who has the ball in his hands the most throughout the game.

To your point on win-loss percentage, I also disagree. Going back to 2012 draft class (excluding the last two draft classes, too early to speak to it) five Quarterbacks appear to have a proven track record in the NFL; Winston, Mariota, Carr, Luck, Wilson and Cousins. Not one of those players had a win percentage under 61% in college. The lowest of that group was Carr who lost 16 games, and 9 of those games were in his first year of starting.

I think your example of Goff is perfect to my point, no doubt that he was fun to watch in college but he only won 37% of his games, and it was clear he shouldn’t have been the first quarterback taken.

  14. It's quite possible I am dense, but having a hard time understanding what inference this article is attempting to make about Rosen? Appears they are blaming the OC for the team’s struggles, but for me that’s a flimsy argument. Like I said, I may be dense and am missing the point.

Rosen has only won 57% of his starts at UCLA, and only 27% against quality opponents. Is he talented sure, a lot of kids at the college level are. What I fail to get is all the hype around him. Personally I think he ends up a backup in the NFL. Could I be wrong, of course? I just dont see it with him. Neither the statistical results nor the film jump out as warranting a 1st Round grade.

  15. Not a fan of Rosen, and not only because his "hot takes" are trite. For all the hype surrounding the guy his film is less than thrilling. Reminds me a lot of the Brad Kaaya situation from last year. Tall enough plays in a pro-style offense, but for all of his intelligence holds the ball way too long and takes a ton of sacks. On top of that he isn’t a winner, and isn’t all that impressive against ranked opponents.

On the opposite end of things all that Baker Mayfield does is win and flash on film, with very little first round hype because of his size. I don’t think the spread offense thing should be downplayed; however it only takes one team to look over that, see Deshaun Watson and Houston.

Josh Allen’s arm is unreal, I mean about as special as special gets. But, when he starts making mistakes watch out, it’s like an avalanche.

One player who I think will shoot up the boards near draft time is Mason Rudolph. He checks almost all the boxes. Size, Big Arm, Winner and can make all the throws.

Right now I’d consider these players in the 1st Round

    Darnold

    Rudolph

    Mayfield

    Allen

If he comes out Rosen will slip, for what its worth.

  16. Also happy about this. Simply put wideouts are a nice to have, and quarterbacks are a must have. If this helps us get a long term answer at quarterback I am all for it. If you didnt make this move you end up getting nothing for a player you spent a fortune to get. If he has a bust season you lose out from the jump, if he plays great you end up paying 12-14million for a player with one year of elite production, it was a no win situation.

Sammy may have helped sell tickets, but he never made enough of an impact on the field to help the team win in a substantial way.

  17. I didnt start my son that early, but I did start taking him to the kids game every year starting when he was 3. We didnt tailgate at all. Just drove there parked, got to our seat and watched the game. I thought the atmosphere was fine for him, but I think that had a lot to do with it being kids day. The first two years, when he was 3 and 4 respectively we stayed until halftime and left. I thought that worked out well. Last year he made it through three quarters.

I think its important to remember every kid is different. I took my nephew the second year when he and my son were both 4, and he wanted to leave five minutes into the game. I would suggest having another adult go with you so youre not trying to keep up with the demands of two toddlers. Even if they love the game and sit quitely, they will want food and they will need to go to the bathroom, and that will only be stressful.
