I think you haven't watched much Spain and they have also been starting Spain in OTAs and starting him at RG too before the thumb injury.

was it change of schemes that lead the titans to let him walk? did they have someone better?  why did he last long enough to make this deal with the bills?

i'm serious when i ask these questions.  between long, feliciano, spain and teller, do they keep 2 backups along with 2 backup tackles?

I am certain Spain starts on this line. He is our best guard. And it isn't close. I think the contracts can be explained by the fact that early in FA Spain wanted a bigger deal. The Bills reportedly had interest but didn't want to pay the price. They spent the money elsewhere and Spain realised as his market dried up he was going to have to take a 1 year prove it deal somewhere. I don't think there is any chance he chose Buffalo over LA and his other options without a strong indication that the starting job was his to lose.

spain may not make it not make the final roster. they have been playing feliciano in morse's place so far in ota's.  that tells me he is going to make the roster.

obviously the starting experience goes to spain(who i believe played only lg) and is a more of a finesse player.  whereas, feliciano is a punch in the mouth guy with felxibility.

  3. not only do i think our last 3 picks make the team, but i think we may have struck gold.  i heard ed reed gush over joquan johnson (sp?) saying he's gonna be a star.

i also believe joseph will be the head hunter we need and will get some snaps from lorax now and then.

lastly, i heard daryl johnson talk in an interview on obl and he's putting on the muscle to get to 260+. he may very well be shaq's replacement next year.

overall this will be looked at as a terrific draft.

What is it that you see in the present organization that you think would keep them from becoming a great franchise?

Me. Wilson wasn't a great owner.  Rex wasn't ever going to be a great coach.  Fitzpatrick never was going to be a star QB.  Whaley wasn't a Hall of Fame GM.

I don't see any weak links now.  McD isn't a great coach yet, but he has time to grow.  He's had some success already, and he is determined. Beane and Allen look like winners, and the Pegulas have impressed me.

What do see that makes you think this combination is unlikely to become historically great?  What franchises do you think are better set up for an impressive decade?

sorry i haven't read the all the pages, but you make great points. being a fan from 1973....when i was 10, i feel more optimistic, or at least as much since the polian/levy era.

probably even more now, i gotta say. i really think these guys will get the lombardi for us.

  5. i'm hoping that greggo and gase turn into a fiasco power struggle.....like.... in pre season...or training camp...or tomorrow. maybe gase will pound the table for a gm that hates greggo.

as you all can see, this is the one guy i do not want coaching in this division....other than bb of course. we're gonna see daboll's stones week one. i hope he unleashes it.

Winner take all? More like winner take a trip to some douchebag city like Jacksonville or Houston. F that, I want a home playoff game.

i believe indy will walk away with the division title. i think that houston, jville and the titans all go 8-8...at best. they will all lose 2 to indy and split with each other.

(the jets will drop too many early on to make a run....i'm thinking 8-8)

i think lac takes the west, but last year the pats made rivers look like peterman in the playoffs. don't count flacco out. he could be a de'javu(sp?) of manning.

i think pitt's young receivers step up. the ravens go 8-8 and maybe the browns hit 9-7, but i still think pitt takes the division.

i see the bills going 10-6 or 11-5  and be safely secured of at least a wild card.

that being said...buffalo and kc with the wild card spots.  then it's go time...

The last game of the season against the NY Jets will be historic. I believe both teams will be playing for the last wildcard spot, winner take all. It will be in essence a home playoff game. The Bills will trail 14-10 with 3:33 left, The Bills will get the ball and Allen will pass and run down the field, He will hit Zay Jones in the end zone for a TD and the Bills will win 17-14. The next week the Bills head to Jacksonville and avenge the 10-3 loss two years before in a route 24-9. The next week they would probably loose, but in 2020 win the division and advance to the AFC Championship.

    Go Bills!!

at 11-4 i would expect them to be starting barkley...

Yes you did.  The Saturday hosts had it replayed in its entirety.  I would have had different questions for Schatz and probed why his opinion was unchanged.  There are numbers that support a brighter future than what was projected in 2018 prior to the draft.  Being hopeful is nothing that warrants an apology.

Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. – Andy Dufresne, The Shawshank Redemption

the guy was so negative on the whole team and portrayed his opinion as that of a bookmaker....i get that but, he just seemed to be lacking that insight to the team, as we all have our ears to the wall everyday. it's ;like he just looked at the roster in today's paper ...or media.  i'd gladly put $100 that the bills kick 6.5 in the ass.  even the jets beat guys don't go as far as he did. welp, i hope his job doesn't depend on his predictions.

edit that, i hope it does.

Aaron was on WGR yesterday with an interesting position on Josh.  He still does not "see" him as an NFL starting QB.  Says he would like to see Bills fans rewarded but does not see Josh as likely to produce it.  If I were doing the interview I'd have asked him about the basis for this, is it the numbers or some actual film review?  IIRC, this was his predraft assessment based on his Wyoming stats and their  correlation to historical projection and he's not bending it based on year 1 in the NFL.

Assuming he is still focused on the numbers, I would have asked him what effect that the following would have on his numbers:

    1) being the leader in depth to target

    2) being amongst the top in dropped passes and throwaways/spikes

    3) being near the top in throws under pressure

I saw some Twitter chatter started by Bills reporters Sal Capaccio and Ryan Talbot.  Here's the link to the latters' story:

    newyorkupstate " I-do-not-see-a-nfl-starting-qb-in-buffalo-bills-josh-allen-says-espns-aaron-schatz"

I appreciate facts in any discussion and numbers are facts.  But discussions need facts connected to meaning and context.  It looks like if the Bills have a decent season, he already has an alternate explanation as to why it happened.

I think Josh will be one of the alltime "scouts eyes and ears" vs. "raw analytics" cases in the NFL.  Someone gets to tell the other side "I told you so."

i apologize for not going through all the pages yet but, i think i heard this today on wgr....or maybe it was a similar take from a booker...but.....

i have been wrong before. i liked rob johnson....i liked jp losman...i liked trent, but all went wrong. i have always attributed it to the billsy way of ruining young qbs.....and i think that theory has merit. when ej came in and was forced to start, this may just be another example of this, but i just didn't think the kid had it between the ears.

now here i am again being hopeful that josh will be our next franchise qb...a cross between elway and kelly. i am going to hang onto those hopes because for the 1st time in decades, i feel we have the gm and coaching staff that will make him that. i pray that i'm right. i just think about the last 4 yrs. with whaley/brandon/marrone and rex.

we're not going back there. i believe in this staff and josh allen. 10-6 at least. my biggest and really only fear this year is facing greggo week one on the road. our oline has got to get the nasty working day one.

Did Kroft have surgery on that foot last year? What is the prognosis? I know he’s out for 3-4 months. Is he a candidate for an injury settlement?

it really wouldn't bother me if they did do this. check out the post below this as to the date of the last injury. i doubt it ever gets right.

but...i could see them with lee,  croom, knox and sweeney, while kroft can stay ( and most likely will) on the pup list until late september.  worry about it then.

however, if i were mcbeane,  i would bail on this deal.  if we end up carrying the 4 above, i'd feel ok with it.  smith provides a good vet presence and i got a feeling sweeney may surprise.  i'm actually glad smith is here to help him. i think croom and knox can provide all the pass catching we'll need at the position.

    6 weeks usually

they are saying 2-3 months...which means 4 at least.  same foot/same break as last year.  hmmmm....

What the Bills SHOULD do: Trade for Kyle Rudolph.

What the Bills WILL do: Re-sign Jake Fisher

    Ugh.

i'd say send a 5th and a dozen wings to miami and bring o'leary back. ya never know.

Yeah I’m bummed he’s leaving. But happy E. Wood is here.

wonder if he chose to leave or what?

they never touched on that...at least so far. i loved kelso . he was a wealth of knowledge in between plays. i hope eric can live up to that. pretty big shoes to fill imo.

my biggest question is how animated he will be....or boring, dry and obvious.  hope all goes well because when we get those awful generic national guys, i'd rather listen with the telly turned down.

    Maybe they liked Singletary better?

It could be just as simple as that

....or they stuck to their board and want to see how the additions this offseason shake out...knowing they can draft out of what's supposed to be a great crop of wrs next year.

i for one, like the fact that they are staggering their top players contracts so that we do not have....or won't have too many due in the same year.

Steve tends to talk too much and deliver it too fast, his words get disconnected from his thoughts and he is left to ramble.  He can end up saying Drew Brees when he means Drew Bledsoe, forget names of guys drafted a few weeks ago, start asking one question of a guest and end up switching to another midstream, etc.  His story telling is much better because he doesn't need to express an opinion or think on the fly.  As the narrator of a story he has probably told many times, he can be very good.

Seriously, I worry about all those guys and CTE.  Who can really say where and when that kind thing starts to show up and how it will progress.  I still listen to their show as it does deliver some interesting Bills content and its better than nothing.  Imo, there are very few people that can talk that much about anything without using a script and deliver it consistently well all the time.

all very well put, i agree. better than nothing is spot on because the rest of wgr broadcasting is all abote da sabres eh. the morning show sucks...the instigators are irritating and shopp and the bulldog...nuff said.  the only other time that i listen to anything other than obl is sal's sports talk saturday from 11-1.

i try to listen everyday because i love to soak up everything bills. they do a great job getting guests on and getting players on. you really get to know the players in depth and i love that. ironically....since this thread started , the above first bolded statement has been sticking out to me much more than it was before. i find myself saying "spit it out steve!" uggh

I get that...but Teller beating out Spain is highly unlikely. Spain is a beast, and without him starting alongside Dawkins, Dawkins himself may be on the move, and that just seems like an awful lot of change IMO.

If Spain was an untaggable cast off, what makes you think Nsehke is gonna beat out a 2nd round pick who played good as a rookie, and "ok" as a sophomore...without a probowler lined up next to him? I think that's EXACTLY why they brought in Spain

because they paid nseke big bucks and he has proven he can play lt. if it benefits the team to move dion inside, so be it for now.  at least one or two of these guys aren't gonna make the final cut. nseke and dawkins ain't it. the only question is whose gonna play rg...imo

    My prediction:

    Nsekhe - Spain - Morse - Feliciano - Ford

(That's right, I said it. Dawkins doesn't start.)

ok but dawkins at lg. spain was a fa cast off. it wan't like he was a tag able lineman.  nseke/dawkins/morse/ long and ford. that's where my money is....although i could see teller taking the rg spot.  i think teller will be our undertaker on the dline though....wait and see....

  17. this may not be on topic but, facing greggo on the road game one, is gonna give me an ulcer by the time september gets here.  he might have got a slap on the wrist for the saints thing a while back, but i'm sure there's nothing he'd rather do than knock a division qb out for the year. hopefully someone here can calm my fear.

i'm wondering if he had any input on trading lee and i hope him and gase end up hating each other's guts by week one. dysfunction is the best thing i can hope for with the jets at this point....and ed oliver crushing darnold.

i hope daboll is going to plan on nuking them right off the bat. take the crowd out early, win the game....get the whole city on fire and make the giants shake and fold week 2.
