  1. I don’t think things would be all that different if Ralph was still with us. I’m guessing he’d approve of the stadium deal with the County/State chipping in a good deal. And with the design itself not being over the top. He’d love having a quarterback locked in as the primary rainmaker. He’d also like the utility knife player extensions, investing in modest contracts as opposed to big splashes. But…I’m guessing he’d not have approved of the Von Miller deal whatsoever.

That poster didn't give you the backstory.

That slide was leaked along with several PSE employee comments about how the Pegulas treated their staff.

In that particular meeting, Kim Pegula allegedly told employees—per multiple sources—that their job was to ensure the Pegulas could maintain their lavish lifestyle. She would sooner fire staff earning meager salaries than cancel their lavish vacation to Tahiti.

The message was clear: you're expendable, your job is to fund our lifestyle, and our vacation matters more than you.

It made waves because it was the first time the public got a glimpse of the Pegulas’ not-so-polished side.

And you believe that story? Honestly?

That all great, but it doesn’t mean they’re making a profit. They may be, but it’s by no means a given - especially in that industry. You seemed certain so I thought you may have had some insight, but you were just speculating based on the popularity of some of their artists. And that’s a good thing obviously. I doubt it much matters when it comes to their sports franchises anyway.

I had a long time partner who regularly brought in a ton a revenue….and just as regularly never made any money. We’d get to the end of the fiscal year and he was totally befuddled.

He never did figure it out.

Maybe Terry is soiling his drawers because he is 1 billion dollars over budget for the new stadium and contractors are starting to halt the project. They have some LED wall and broadcast gear supposed to be shipped but it has been put on hold. Not needed now but they need to secure the LED walls so current steps for lagging and bolting have been put on hold as contactors want their dough. Getting bad. That's just one small example of the issues. I'm hearing nightmare stories. Like... this aint our last season at current Rich stadium. news to come.... and it will come.

There are always job site rumors about all sorts of stuff. From my experience few, if any, are true.

Unfortunately the Sabres are Terry's special plaything. He's in meetings and speaks with Adams daily. Is he just absorbing info or is he injecting himself in the team management process? It's not clear.

Very true, but it doesn’t change my premise that successful people don’t like to lose. He can either keep beating the dead horse or come to the realization that he’s not good at running a hockey team. It’s not as if he’s only owned the team for a season or two. Maybe he should go ‘play’ with something else.

  6. Lots of talk on here about the Sabres. Has anyone considered that Terry may be thinking he’s just not been that good at owning an NHL hockey team? Successful people like to be successful. They also don’t like losing. I’m guessing he’s spent more than a few nights trying to decide if he’s capable of putting a winning team on the ice. And if his conclusion is that he’s not, I wouldn’t be the least bit shocked if he says ‘I know the many things that I’m good at, and this definitely isn’t one of them’.

Goodell is just doing his job of trying to make his 32 multi billionaire bosses  more money. Reducing the bottom line exists in every major corporation in America and around the world, workers are a big part of the bottom line. Goodell has to do more than hug draftees to earn his $$$.

Running a corporation is far more complicated and nuanced than the old ‘workers vs management’ that you imply.

This week (so far) has been brutal in NJ. Temps around 100 and humid. I know a lot of people like summer, but I can't stand it. From a weather standpoint give me the fall and spring. Plus. the fall and spring offer the best times for sports. Football season and the NHL playoffs.

Gregg….it’s 75 and sunny here today….again. 😁 (In case you were wondering.)

this corporation doesn't have a real CEO or board of directors.  it's 32 equals who channel their decisions through a well payed lackey.

In the good ‘ol days the league had this same collusion meeting every year. It’s just that back then it was more accurately labeled as the “Can somebody please tell Al Davis to knock it off?” Meeting. 😉

hard salary cap is a strict limit on salaries by design. owners would hardly need to be convinced not to offer completely guaranteed contracts of that scale (there has only been ...ever).  Josh Allen's guaranteed money dwarfs Watsons.

he didn't come up up with the idea to collude......he's just serving his masters.

My point is that the entire league doesn’t act like individual corporations but instead like branch offices of a single, larger company. We had this same challenge in my company and we constantly had to remind the various branch managers not to get too out of line when it came to salaries, etc as it ultimately became problematic for the other branches.

  11. These issues are really complicated when it comes to an unusual business like the NFL. While yes, the teams are in quasi-competition with each other, they are NOT in open business competition. The teams depend on each other and the league as a whole benefits from an even ‘playing field’ thus shared television revenue, a weighted draft, and of course a salary cap. While I’m confident the Players Union would lobby for guaranteed contracts (that’s what a Union is supposed to do), I can also see how the Owners would get together to try and reduce such a trend.

With all of that said there’s no bigger critique of the current commissioner than me, so I post this with a torn conscience.

Where do you put Henry Jones and Mark Kelso on your list of safety’s?

And do you remember Jeff Nixon from the Chuck Knox years?  That guy was great at deep safety.  Didn’t he get a bunch of picks and then blow his knee out in 80 or 81?

i wasn’t watching the team in the 60’s but it sounds like we had a helluva secondary.

And finally what about Leonard Smith and Kurt Schultz?  They could both lay the wood.

I remember every single one of them and more. The only one that I know for sure I’d exclude is Kelso. I was never a big fan. To answer your last question, yes both Leonard Smith and Schultz were indeed better ‘hitters’. Safety is probably the biggest debate across the entire 22 man starting roster.

Actually the WR group was very stacked.  Frank Lewis was next after Lee Evans, followed by Elbert Dubenion, Bob Chandler, Stevie Johnson, and then Butler.  Yeah that D Backfield of my youth was special.

I brought up the Safeties a few days ago. Are we sure Poyer and Hyde wouldn’t deserve those spots? I realize it was a different era but man it seems like they held down the back end for quite a few seasons.

I was in 4th or 5th grade and had strep throat so I couldn’t go to the home preseason game against the Eagles. I remember listening about giant Harold Carmichael tearing us up in a meaningless game.  I remember that more clearly than most of the games from that era I actually attended. I guess it was “different” so it stands out in my mind, and your brain must process it a bit differently.   🤷‍♂️

    .

Amen! Listening to Van Miller and maybe Ed Rutkowski? Memory fades. Can’t recall who used to host that Saturday afternoon Highlights show on Channel 7.

Maybe our NFL overlords can introduce  PVLs, personal viewing licenses so you can pay for the right to buy Sunday ticket in the future in order to increase revenue.

I’d prefer if you could buy just a ONE team package. I couldn’t care less who the Seahawks are playing.
