I pray that there is some sort of statute of limitations on the whole 13 second thing. The ST coach and the DC are gone from that fiasco. I refuse to make myself sick over it years later. Live, learn, and move on.

Nope. It will forever be one of the most disgusting things that has happened to the Bills.

I've been following this thread with some amusement and bemusement. Except for the Chiefs, no franchise in the NFL has sustained the Bills' consistent level of excellence. It's really that simple and is the irrefutable indictment of PFF's top ten coaching list. 2024-25 may have been McDermott's best year, as we kept our top level of competitiveness while transitioning our core. Any top 10 coaching list without McDermott is not a top 10 coaching list.

I understand and share the frustrations listed in this thread.

    - The defensive line churn.

    - The heavy reliance on Josh. Although our improved O-line and running game are nice steps forward.

    - And, of course, the still elusive Lombardi trophy. Honestly, I'm 64 with cancer - please win the go***mned thing while I am here to cherish the moment.

Don't let thoughts of purity and perfection deny you the opportunity to enjoy this period of greatness. They create the denial of a happy life.

Its not about purity or perfection.

I truly believe if you grabbed some of the bottom tier coaches the Bills are still going to make the playoffs and have winning seasons.

Question for you. If Andy Reid was the coach of this team instead of Mcdermott 8 years ago how many rings do we have?

Our current surface is turf so there won't be mud.  If the game was in Baltimore, where they have natural grass, then your statement would make sense because natural grass grows on dirt.  When dirt gets wet, it turns into mud.

So since this is a home game, there is a possibility they stomp us but it won't be in mud.  "Curb stomp" wouldn't apply either because there isn't any curbs on the field.

I encourage you to use another phrase more applicable.

  3. Has this been enough make you feel we are closer to a superbowl?

I feel like were still at the same spot. Getting pressure on the QB is probably the more important thing we need on this team. I think it was somewhat addressed. I have no faith or confidence Bosa will be anywhere near his good years or even be healthy.

My opinion is that coaching and playcalling is the thing that will either get us over the top or leave us disappointed again.

Spags sucked as a head coach. You don’t think Mahomes and Reid, who go against his defense every day in practice, wouldn’t be able to scheme the crap out of it come playoffs???

the chiefs just cruise through regular seasons at this point and don’t show too much. They are just at a different level come playoff time.

    How is he cheating?

Ok hes not cheating...but the NFL is cheating for his team.

It’s just fans assuming things. Allen has to recognize all the positive things McDermott has done for his career.

I would also struggle making one player the powerful despite how good they are. Roles are important in an organization.  When you let a player get too much power, it can blow up big time.

Not saying Mahomes is just pettiness.

I wanted to but, hes a cheater so hes out.

Actually you are as fully qualified as most GM's or owners in the league is .  The reason I say that is if they were more qualified, there's wouldn't be all the failures in the hires that happen regularly.

That was kind of the point of @oldmanfan the odds of getting anyone better when you consider all the failures is very low and no one knows who will be a success.  The Bills were lucky that they made a good choice in McD.

To the OP's point @Ramza86 that a 15 YO could get the team to the wild card. then how come  Mayfield failed in Cleveland (and Carolina)  and now looks great?  While not as long of a track record of success, but Darnold in Minn looked pretty darn good this year after years of failure.  Sis they all of a sudden figure things out or is it the coaching?

Yeah it's easy to say anyone can win in this league when you have a great superstar QB, but really not as easy as many think.

I believe there are two QBs in this league that can take ANY of the current 32 into the playoffs.

Allen and Lamar. Their skill set alone can and have been masking team deficiencies for the entirety of their careers.

I cant believe there are people actually suggesting that the Buffalo Bills take up the New York Jets model of giving the star quarterback the power to dictate coach staffing and player personel.

This has been disproven time and time and time again. Yet people continue to trot it out there. Amazing.

    Has it?

I mean if that’s what HE wants then he should get it. I just don’t think that’s part of Allen’s personality. He’s going to put the blame on himself before anybody else. 31 other teams haven’t been able to stop the Chiefs/Referee juggernaut. Is it really worth it to tear the whole thing down? I think the thing Buffalo is truly lacking is a TJ Watt/Bosa/Myles Garrett type disrupter. They need elite game changers on defense. Von Miller was a ridiculous signing. He’s just too old. Buffalo needs to package their 1st and two 2nd rounders to trade up and get that guy. Rousseau is a great 1b pass rusher like Robert Mathis, but we need a game wrecker like Dwight Freeney to pair him up with.

If we added those defensive playmakers is McDermott the guy that can get the best out of them?

I think McDermotts mentality is too fear based. How many years did it take McDermott to start going for these 4th downs with Josh freaking Allen. Hes not a chance taker, hes not creative, hes not aggressive. It shows everytime were up against someone who is.

You talk about McD looking good “on paper”, and Reid having more answers, then put this in the OP.

“At this point its worth trying something new.”

OK, what can we try that is better than what we have? I don’t really think a 15 year old would do better. McD has the second best winning percentage in professional sports in North America over the last 5 years. We are just stuck behind the Chiefs, who are #1. New flash! They are beating everyone else too!

EDIT: I don’t mean to pick on you, but this was all so predictable. The fans whining bother me about as much as the loss. We had a pretty darn good year, and while I’m disappointed I can appreciate what we witnessed and look forward to our future.

    .

How is me saying lets try someone else crazier than.....lets keep the guy who continues to fail when it matters the most?

What im saying isnt crazy and just because I dont have the answer doesnt mean its not a viable thing to do.

No, you are telling us what to do, then you say you are not qualified to make that call on how to move forward. You can’t have it both ways. What is your plan? Tear it down is easy. What should we do going forward. You never tear anything down without a plan, but that’s what you want to do.

Even message boards require reasonable thoughts to be taken seriously.

who is telling anyone to do anything? what are you talking about.

So you admit you are not qualified, but you want to tell us what to do. Think about that for a moment. No thank you.

Thats literally what forums are for. Sharing opinions and thoughts lol. Why are you here then? Nobody here is in on team meetings and reviewing tape with the coaches. So I guess nobody here is allowed to talk then.

Who is this mysterious young stranger and how long will he take to "grow" into one of the best coaches in NFL history?

Finding a coach to improve on the 2nd best team in the NFL so that he can beat the best team in the NFL isn't that hard?

Sorry, but you are simply living in fantasy land.

They were not running heavy zone schemes last night.

We are just going to be in disagreement that Mcdermott is vital to our playoff success.

Because to me this is a playoff team with whatever coach. So there isnt much of a gap between McD and the next guy.

Yes, hiring some inexperienced kid who is suddenly going to magically beat the historically dominant Reid/Mahomes/Spagnuolo combo is outside the realm of possibility.

Why is it magically? What makes you think magic is needed?

Did Andy Reid get a call from the future and tell him to draft Patrick Mahomes? He took a shot and it payed off. Mahomes wasnt supposed to be a 1st ballot HOFer based on logic. He figured he could work with the kid and get him right.

Id rather take a chance on someone who can grow and become a better coach than Mcdermott...honestly it couldnt be that hard.

Unless you have an actual viable solution, this is nothing but more complaining.

They've arguably been the second best team in the NFL for the last 5 years and would probably have a couple Lombardis if it weren't for the Chiefs.

Mahomes/Reid/Spagnuolo are not only the best combo in the NFL but one of the best in its entire history.

What is your realistic solution to get past them, because blowing it all up ain't it.

Who says blowing it up isnt it? That is very much a possibility.

We cant hire the next innovative coach to get passed the Chiefs? Thats out of the realm of possibility?

Who would have thought wed be drafting a 1st ballot HoFer in Josh Allen. You wont know until you try and what McDermott has done is fail every year.

Not because of you.  Because of reality.  McD could be replaced if he has lost the faith of the team.  People are Ali yelling about replacing Brady, but from all appearances Brady and Josh have worked very well together.

We have to beat a team that is the NFL equivalent of Jordan and the Bulls.

Yeah so do we just accept that and lose everytime we play the Chiefs? Like weve seen coaching be the weakness of this team when the games are the toughest.

Id say its worth a gamble to try something new.
