Thanks to your Dad for his service.

If you think that what I wrote is anti-family or anti-fatherhood in any way, well, then you read it wrong. It is in fact the opposite. A commitment to family and being a great father includes instilling good ethics in you children, including loyalty. Mutually inclusive.

As I wrote (and perhaps you didn't fully read): "I'm not saying you force the kid to sit in front of the TV every Sunday and watch, but if they ask you if they should switch teams, the answer in my opinion is “You don’t give up just because the road is tough”. What he/she does with that answer is up to them. But you shouldn’t advise them to give up, or give them an answer that condones the potential of changing teams just because things are difficult right now."

I read that, but your "new age crap" comment and subsequent paragraphs (with irrelevant comparisons) set the tone for your argument. There are many ways to teach the concept of not giving up just because the road is tough, and I can assure you that my Dad taught that lesson well - through real-life issues, not sports fandom.

Sorry but this new age horse manure doesn’t appeal to me.

You make a commitment, you stick to it. Loyalty and other morals are taught - they’re not naturally ingrained.

My Dad was a WWII vet and not even remotely a "new age" guy. He was also a Browns fan. (The Bills didn't exist until he was nearly 40.) I grew up rooting for both the Browns and the Bills, but eventually settled on just the Bills. I'm glad his commitment to fatherhood and his loyalty to his family superseded his interest in a football team. And I'm glad he taught that to me.

  3. I've got a red leather tie and pair of rugger pants
I put them on and I went to the high school dance
Dad said I had to be home by eleven
Aw, man, I'm gonna miss Stairway to Heaven

  4. Sports should be entertainment, not stress. I admit, I stress out during games too, but I don't yell at the TV or indicate that I'm angry. I make sure my stress is my own and doesn't spread to my wife and son. That's how my Dad watched sports, so I learned it from him. I figure that the team is no reflection on me - I can't take credit for the wins so I shouldn't feel shame about the losses. Yeah, I'm bummed when they lose, especially in the playoffs, but I can't let that ruin my life.

I guess my point is that the Bills are winning much more often than losing these days, so maybe just teach your son to savor the wins and shrug off the losses. He might find being a Bills fan much less stressful.

  5. I don't see Gabe coming back. I think they draft two WRs in the first three rounds. Keep Diggs for at least another year while the rookies get up to speed. Shakir is more reliable than Gabe and DK2 is the receiving TE that we hoped DK1 would become. Someone will pay more for Gabe than he'll get as our WR4.

I don’t know that she’s any less a ‘part of this’ than any of us.
Though her motor skills may be limited, it’s entirely possible that she has enough cognition to fully enjoy and experience the Bills games.

  7. Dark star, I see you in the morning,
Dark star, a' sleeping next to me.
Dark star, let the memory of the evening
Be the first thing that you think of
When you open up your smile and see me, dark star.

But weak enough not to choose it
He's wise enough to win the world
But fool enough to lose it

    Yup!!!!!

Now do Elam...."This guy is useless, he just got trucked.  What now, DPI?  What a bust, waste of a first round pick...."
    *two plays later*

"KAIIR!  That guy can Ball, Man!  Way to go!"

That exact scenario happened on my couch last week - not on the GDT, but in a conversation between me and my wife. After I got done explaining that he's a liability and I wondered why he's still on the team, he made a clutch pick in the end zone. "That's why!" I said.

She replied, "Just before that happened, I was thinking it would be funny if he intercepted a pass on the next play."

    I love that woman. 🙂

  10. When you're down and troubled
And you need some lovin' care
And nothin', nothin' is goin' right
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest night
