They better have talent surrounding this franchise QB to be or he'll be destined for failure.
I value your opinion, we just differ on some parts of this topic. You brought up good points.
I'm over this now.
Lets just hope we see life in our offense Sunday. I've been pretty negative on Tyrod but I actually think he bounces back this week...at least I hope so.
-
Yeah, but it's 99.5% likely we have a new rookie starting QB next year. Wouldn't it have been nice to have him throwing to a guy like Watkins? Even at $13 million for that season who cares. We are not strapped to a large QB contract.
Yes it would (of course if healthy) but if this extra 2nd helps us get the franchise QB we need....well worth it.
-
Apparently the plan is to acquire a franchise QB next season. If that is indeed the case, then trading Watkins is shortsighted. The LA Rams and Jared Goff say thank you Mr. Beane.
Well if that extra second helps us get that franchise QB....well worth it.
-
Bogus as in him re-signing didn't have to be an issue for at least two more seasons. That's a fact. The rest of what you post here is admittedly opinion, but it seems like a way of convincing yourself that a trade was the correct move.
I just don't think picking up an option of $13,000,000 when he was coming off of a year where he averaged 6.5 targets a game.
He's not featured in the offense. If he was, then yes I definitely pick that up.
He wanted/wants targets...he's not getting it here.
-
See Dez Bryant, Julio Jones, and Julian Edelman who are all with their original teams. Only the Bills are shortsighted enough to deal away a great playmaker.
Dez Bryant, Julio Jones and Julian Edelman are all on teams that didn't have a limited passing QB where their production equaled their contract.
Again, not entirely Watkins fault but if he's not going to be featured in our offense, it's hard to justify paying him that much.
Watkins last two years in Buffalo, he averaged 7.5 and 6.5 targets per game.
-
Absolutely. I look at his 1st two seasons and easily say yes, but they should have picked up his 5th year option.
I don't think his production equals $16 million from what we saw in his first two seasons.
Not saying it's entirely his fault.
-
False narrative. He suffered one major injury in his career that hampered him last season.
He missed games in 2015 because of a calf and ankle. 2016 isn't the only season he missed games.
He missed 8 in 2016. Missed 3 starts in 2015. Didn't finish the two more games that lead to missing those starts.
He was injury riddled.
Absolutely. I look at his 1st two seasons and easily say yes, but they should have picked up his 5th year option.
I wouldn't. I guess we'll disagree with this.
Yep. The whole narrative of we needed to get something for him because he wouldn't sign here is flat out bogus. The team had control of the situation for the next two years on his rookie deal and beyond if they wanted it.
Bogus as we would have resigned with us?
It's just my opinion. I think he wants to go to a team with a better passing QB. It's just my opinion.
He already complained about targets and he wasn't going to get that in Buffalo. Again, my opinion.
-
There's a little something called a Franchise Tag.
The franchise tag in 2018 would have been around $16 million. You would have been comfortable paying that with what you've gotten out of him so far?
-
Sammy wouldn't have had the opportunity to do jack **** if they logically picked up his team option.
Why is that hard to comprehend?
A guy that has been injury riddled the last two years and had mediocre stats...you'd pick up that option at $13,000,000?
-
You've been here? Funny but I don't remember you being here when the Bills traded away the best left tackle in the game and we were bombarded with "he wasn't resigning here anyway" and "he's a selfish diva" takes...
I wasn't here but what difference does that make?
Peters contract wasn't paying him top LT money because the previous extension. He had a legitimate complaint.
Are you trying to say every situation is the same or something?
-
How did getting rid of the most talented young offensive player we had help in the process of improving?
Because we weren't competing this year and I believe (just my opinion) Sammy would have walked after this year so we got something for him.
I believe (my opinion) Sammy wants to be a great WR and he wasn't getting that in Buffalo when we've been the bottom of the league passing the last 2 years and the 3rd year looks to be the same.
Why would a very talented WR want to stay in a run focused team? When we draft a QB next year, he will be a rookie. That's 4 years in his prime with shaky QB play.
I simply post about the Bills. The Bills suck and prove me right countless times over.
I HATED the Watkins trade and it will go down as a bad trade in due time.
Remember it's a BILLS message board. The Bills have the longest playoff drought in all of sports. I'll complain all I want.
Trust me...we all know. We definitely know.
-
Ok. We'll see what tune you're whistling in a few weeks.
Sometimes I think Bills fans get what they deserve.
This doesn't make any sense.
Bills fans get what they deserve huh? You deserve this too?
-
Did I say that?
No but you said "what else do you expect" after the last 17 years.
Well, I've been here and 99% of the board doesn't complain anywhere near the level you do.
I have my complaints, I post them but I add other things as well....you don't.
-
Hyperbole much? who said he was the most impactful receiver of all time?
That's the impression they are giving off. Even if Watkins was still here, our offense would still be bad. It would be just a little less bad.
But the way people are talking on here, he is sorely missed. Yes he would have an impact but not enough to make a huge difference.
We have bigger problems that what Sammy can fix.
I'm not saying Sammy isn't a good WR, he is.
-
Do you not think it's easier for Defenses to stop our run game when they don't have to worry about a WR threat beating them deep?
Watkins went on IR after week 2 last year.
The next 8 games, McCoy's rushing yards.
110
70
150
140
11 (Miami game injured and left the game early. Only 8 carries)
Injured and didn't play against NE
85
Injured and only had 5 carries against Cincy.

This is a Bills forum right? To talk bills football?
Bills football has been pretty bad for going on 18 years. What exactly do you expect?
You're right Scott...you're the only one who has been a part of the last 17 years of football. No one else has gone through it...just you.
-
Dude, you don't think that the two are related?
It seems like people think Sammy is the most impactful WR of all time.
Would Sammy have helped? Yes. But with him we were still bottom of the league in passing.
Even his 2nd half of of 2015 when he him and Tyrod connected on a regular basis on the deep ball, we averaged 22.5 ppg which is average.
Last year yes, we were top 10 in scoring and he missed him the majority of the year. Our WR core wasn't good last year either.
So what huge impact does he really have when even without him, we actually scored more?
-
News flash guy, THE BILLS ARE THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
Except I don't post the same thing over and over again. It's when stupidity strikes that I criticize. And the Bills do stupid things. A LOT. So I criticize. A LOT.
Scott, you cry about the same thing over and over and over again.
-
Ok. Wait until you see the abortion of an offense they trot out there on Sunday.
Our doesn't suck because we lost Sammy Watkins.
Our offense sucks because we are one dimensional. When our running game is stopped, our offense is stopped.
-
Why attack the poster? Maybe because it's easier than accepting the reality of the team you root for.
No coach, that's not it. There's a point where it's no longer meaningful to post because it's just the same thing over and over and over again.
There's more talking about football than just repeating how much you hate something.
You can guarantee that or just guarantee the Bills will continue to lose. They go hand in hand bud.
I'll go with the former.
-
3 guarantees in life.
Death
Taxes
Scottlaw continuously crying about the Bills.

She's certainly strong willed, from what I understand to a point beyond where you can call it "strong willed" and more to the point of "controlling."
Or a word that rhymes with bunt.
-
Unless she's also suing the Florida Gators, her suit should be tossed on the grounds that she's full of ****. Half his football career was spent there.
Might as well thrown in his high school and little league football too.

I think CTE will definitely have an affect.
Boxing's biggest problem is they have too many federations/belts, don't market their fighters well and don't have balanced fight cards.
