  1. Does anyone think its possible that failed coaching/systems may have played a role in E J Manuels failure to develop into an NFL QB.

Why can 2nd or 3rd string QB's win football games behind center for the Patriots?

How well do the same QB's do elsewhere?

Sometimes it might...but with regards to EJ, I think it had very little to do with why he failed....EJ was a long shot to ever be a good QB in the NFL...he was considered a long term project that was only given a shot because of his measureables...nothing else EJ had between the ears said NFL QB...he was basically a hope and a prayer.

  2. Now that the full details have come out how can you be pissed about this deal? Whaley did a fantastic job with this restructure. We can get off of the hook with only a 1 million $ cap hit next season. Kudos to Doug.

Finally seeing Tyrod Taylor's redone #Bills deal: $14.5M fully gtd in 2017, $6M roster bonus + $10M base ($1M gtd) in 2018 ... then it voids

In addition, it shows that the Bills fully intend on drafting a QB either this year or next...

  3. This draft is starting to remind me of 2012, the year we drafted Gilmore. Buffalo had needs all over the field, and the mock drafts were as scattered as they come. Various mocks had us taking WR Justin Blackmon, S Mark Barron, WR Michael Floyd, DE Quinton Coples, and others.

When we picked CB Stephon Gilmore, I said "Huh? Really?" Hard to get excited about a CB...after all, there's like 11 of those on every team, but whatever. But when I read about him, I thought "Okay, sounds like a shutdown guy. I guess I can get onboard."

Now it's 2017. Most of us are thinking WR or S. Some folks think we snag LB Foster based on his blue chip stock. But CB? Until we let Gilmore walk, did anyone really think CB was priority #1? More to the point, did anyone WANT cornerback to be priority #1? I mean...wasn't a toss-up between WR and S...when there are exceptional candidates at both spots...enough positions to choose from?

Which is why I think many of us will be surprised (and disappointed) when we go CB in round 1. We may follow that up with WR, OT, and S in the rounds that follow, but the consensus will be that we missed a golden opportunity to snag a stud at one of those positions of need in round 1.

I'm prepared to hate this draft. But I'd rather hate the draft and love the results than love the draft and hate the results.

ya know, it's interesting that you posted this...I always think to myself, what position or player would I be excited that the bills drafted and which one would I not be excited for even if it was a need...when there was a chance that we would draft a QB this draft it was kind of exciting for me- even if it wasn't a great draft for QBs...I could even get excited for a 1st round WR...but CB or S (even though) we need it would just be meh to me.

Hopefully it involves drafting 3-4 really good players.

Anything short of that and we'll continue to miss the playoffs.

CB is the deepest position in the entire draft. We can afford to wait until round 2 to draft one.

We desperately need a WR. If Sammy gets hurt again, we've got no one to throw to.

This is my biggest thing...in addition, how do we know Sammy is going to want to stay a Bill? Might as well start hedging our bets just in case...never wanna get caught with your pants down like we did with Gilmore...this way if Sammy doesn't want to sign the Bills offer you can trade him before he hits the open market.

  4. i have been spouting this for years...i will never call Tom Brady the GOAT....those other QBs played in eras where you could rip their heads off and not get a flag...in todays NFL Brady tears his knee and all of a sudden the NFL changes the rules that you can't hit a QB below the knees...it's ridiculous...you can't even compare it to the old school guys...Bradshaw would walk off the field with a bloody face and keep playing...Brady plays in the "powder puff" era...He could win 10 more superbowls and I still wouldn't call him the GOAT...and anyone who does so does it without anyone knowledge of the history of the game.

  5. ...my apology....thought you were talking about the scrap heap......the woeful OBD ineptitude with the QB spot since Kelly is mind boggling.....with the turnstile FO and administrations, you'd think SOMEBODY would hit.......these clowns haven't been able to hit the water from the boat......

No harm, no foul...in addition to your point my biggest fear is Whaley's ego...he was so dead set that his superior knowledge and research had led him to EJ as our QB that it clouded his judgement...acquiring another QB to compete with EJ seemed out of the question to him, as it would bring into question his judgement on selecting EJ in the first place...therefore, he would settle for lesser talent at the QB position (Jeff Tuel and Thad Lewis) until he was forced by Marrone to get Kyle Orton, and then forced by Rex to get Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor...None of the Bills HCs wanted EJ, yet Whaley thought he knew better...and because of that, it has taken longer to find our franchise QB.

  6.

...because the list of VASTLY superior choices was so abundant.....hell, I'd bet even Waste Management would not pick 99% of them up curbside tomorrow morning..............

Derek Carr and Jimmy Garappolo say hello...both much better prospects coming out of school and were there for the taking...if, for nothing else, at least as an insurance policy on EJ- kinda like what Washington did.

  7. If we are talking best fit for our new WCO between the 2017-18 draft classes, my vote goes to Luke Falk...had he declared he would have been the first QB taken this year imo, and he will likely go top 10 next year as well...For me he is the ideal pocket passer with excellent mechanics, pocket awareness and anticipation on passes...he made the 2018 QB class go from being a very good class to an excellent class and the Bills would be very lucky to get him next year.

  8. that seems to be the prevailing wisdom within this thread. i dunno though, seems just a tad off the wall.

It is definitely thinking outside the box, and something that hasn't ever been seen before in the NFL...but if you think about it, it does seem quite logical...with the Browns having over $100 million in cap space, and not enough FAs to fill that space, they basically paid to acquire a 2nd round pick...if only the Bills could be so shewd...it reminds me of something the Pats would do- always staying one step ahead of everyone else.

Did this hatred emerge during the season, or was Osweiler signed to a $37m guaranteed contract over O'brien's strong objections?

I would speculate likely the latter...but I wouldn't be surprised if, after he saw him play, he hated him even more...lol

  9. I think I'll follow the OP's lead and vent as well...

It is 2017, and we now have nothing to show, in the way of 1st round picks, from 2012, 2013, and 2015, AND still no franchise QB...but we are close! :wallbash:
