So, 4 years ago something happened.  He was neither arrested nor charged with anything.  He becomes a 1st round pick in the NFL and is slated to be paid millions et voila a civil suit is filed.  Money grab, All.  Day.  Long.

One more note on this. I'm really happy that Beane got in front of this an mentioned it when he was drafted.

Seems like a lot of due diligence was completed and this will fade away soon.

This dude was never an All-Pro 😂  He's a PED meatball. If this guy signed with the Jets or Dolphins there would be a dozen threads laughing at the desperation.

He is, however, the perfect Von replacement - and I mean perfect in terms of homer excuses.

I've already heard "I don't care what he does as long as he's heathy in January"

And I assume by September I'll get the "They're saving him for the playoffs"  Yeah right, that's a thing.

    He's a scratch-off lottery ticket.

Wow, you must be fun at parties.

How can someone be so miserable about a Defensive End that has some upside (we hopefully agree on that) on a 1 year $12M deal?

How about someone being honorable enough to play out the contract he signed.

How about coaches and GMs being honorable and never cutting players for underperforming?

Lets make every contract fully guaranteed, while we’re being honorable.

I feel a need to be reassured by the board.  I get a creeping fear - which can only be based on some weird, deep-seated prejudice -- that Cole Bishop may well lack the toughness to be an NFL strong safety.  Maybe he looks a little bit too much like a choirboy.  Maybe he is too handsome and I am secretly jealous.  I am 100% rooting for him.  I know he has the height, weight and speed.  But I look at him and think "likely to be scheme sound."  No, please!  I want to look at him and say "geez, I would sure hate to be a running back and see that animal flying downhill at me.  Snot flying, drool dripping, that dude is going to wreck someone."  I want to think - wide receiver over the middle?  Not worried about it, Bishop will get there and lay the MoFo out.  They may complete one, but it will be VERY expensive for them.

Tell me I am stupid, a hater or just off base.  I really liked the pick when they made it, I am hoping he grows into a silent assassin on the back-end.  Even if he is scheme sound too (and I know he wasn't always that last year either).  Let's go Cole - cheering for you, and want to feel stupid for doubting you.  I may have to buy a Bishop jersey just to exorcise my doubts.  Thoughts?

Have you seen a picture of Luke Keuchly coming out of college?

You might consider the same line of thought with Cooper DeJean who was an absolute menace his rookie year.

I expect him to be cut soon, and contract voided.  NFL is going to have fun with this one.

    What an assclown.

    ::clutches pearls::

Oh heavens! A playing holding a mystery substance in the offseason??

Players beat women and hit people with their car and don't have their contract voided.

Kincaid was thrown a lot of passes as a rookie but had very little impact.   You often see teams force playing time on rookies they expected a lot of.   But no receiver that begins at the LOS and had only a 9.2 yard per catch number nowadays, did anything remotely historic that season.    That was sort of like the regular season Kelce had last year that people said was terrible and called him washed up.   He has an age excuse.   Kincaid was 25.   That's PRIME age.   He was supposed to be plug and play and has turned into at least a 3 year project.   And the concept of a split-only TE like Kincaid really was as a rookie is fairly new so comparing his rookie season production to guys even 10 years ago is what is ridiculous.    It's like comparing passing yardage and TD/INT ratio to 30-40 years ago.

Edmunds was a failed trade up.    He's an adequate first round pick but they also dealt a valuable second round pick to move up for him and he wasn't worth a second contract to the team.   If you aren't deemed market worthy and they don't have an OBVIOUS replacement for you(which was the case when Edmunds left)....... then you probably weren't worth a first and second round pick.   And we know why they didn't want to extend him.   He lacks the instincts for the position that the far lesser size/speed athlete Bernard has in abundance.  Yet Bernard got extended.   EARLY.    The Bills had Edmunds play out his 5 year deal and let a 24 year old veteran go for a reason.  They even ate a big $11M+ cap hit in his option year to avoid extending him.

Kincaid played one season of high school football. He caught one pass in 2020, then he played two years of college ball before coming to the Bills. Expecting him to be "plug and play" at the position that typically requires the most ramp up time is ridiculous.

On the Edmunds note, you say he didn't have an OBVIOUS replacement. How about Terrel Bernard, who was drafted by the Bills in the 3rd round of 2022 despite Edmunds being on the roster? He played behind Edmunds an entire year, then became a great starter immediately in 2023 the moment Edmunds left. Is that not an obvious replacement?

I'm opting out on the rest of this thread. Enjoy.

Yep traded up for Allen and then Edmunds was the first of Beane's long string of, so far, failed Day 1 and 2 trade-ups.

It is so ridiculous that after one of the best rookie seasons at Tight End ever, people are completely out on Dalton Kincaid in year 2.

Saying Edmund is a failed Day 1 pick is equally ridiculous. He signed a massive contract in the offseason and has experienced plenty of success in the NFL. He's a failure by Beane because we didn't sign him to that overpaid contract? No.

Here are some noteworthy Day 2 picks the last 4 years: O'Cyrus Torrence, Dorian Williams, James Cook, Terrel Bernard, Spencer Brown.

I don't know where this mentality started of criticizing Beane at every juncture, but he's a good GM. Be glad he's with the organization.

Disagree. In run defence drills at the senior bowl against guys who are going to be drafted or priority free agents he was very effective.

Not trying to be a jerk, but did you watch him in college and have you seen the lower half of his body?

He's not a 1-tech. He's not good against the run and rarely occupies 2 blockers.

I'm not saying he's bad, I'm just saying calling him a 1-tech because he's big is the same as calling Jordan Phillips a 1-tech because he's big. It's not true.

There is no larger veteran that is an upgrade from Daquan Jones available. Cut him and we're rolling with just Walker at 1T (with the occasional pass rush package of Sanders next to Oliver) and Carter.

If they were going to move on from Jones this offseason, they'd have either a.) been more proactive in signing a veteran 1T to replace him early in FA and/or b.) Would have Drafted someone in the first couple Rounds.

If he were to be cut before the season started, it's pretty likely he would represent the top 1T on the market. Teams don't cut starting quality 1T's coming out of camp very often.

The sooner everyone understands that Walker isn't a 1-tech, the better.

He's not good against the run and doesn't take on 2 blockers very often. He doesn't even play over the center all the time. He's essentially a big 3-Tech.

With this in mind, any talk of him "replacing" Daquan doesn't make any sense.

Super clean fit for our scheme IMO. Put him in off coverage and let him read and react. Elite speed and can break on routes like no other CB in the class. In the modern NFL where the quick passing game is king his skill set is extremely valuable.

I kinda disagree with this, which is why I think this is one of the many signals we’re moving to more Man coverage.

Off Coverage only works if you’re a good tackler and can ideally play through a block. Those are the two things he’s worst at.

  11. I think the best bang for your buck comes from 1-Tech DT with pass rushing skills.

That would be Harmon or Grant and we potentially have a shot at one of them.

The other "game wreckers" are probably Abdul Carter, Mason Graham, and Jalen Walker .... maybe Shemar Stewart. We don't have a legitimate chance at any of them unless we trade away too much.

Some people are high on Mike Green (small bendy rusher), Mykel Williams (raw with bad production), and Walter Nolen (3-tech), but I don't like the fit.

To answer the question is: Harmon and Grant because they fit a need and will make everyone around them better. No other true "game wreckers" in range at 30.

    Stephon Gilmore

    This is the correct answer.

2019 Defensive Player of the Year.

7 Cornerbacks have ever won that award. Ever. Total.

He might not have had all his best years on the Bills, but he's the best corner.

Edit: LOL at all of the lists that don't have him in the top 5. Cmon.

I could see Joe Schoen trading down slightly from Pick #3, maybe down the the 8 - 11 spot, get some nice draft capital to acquire more players and take Ashton Jeanty at the 8 - 11 spot. They're kicking themselves for letting Saquon walk last year. This gives them a generational talent at RB and more draft capital to move back up and take a rookie QB to develop if they desire.

    JMO

    Zero shot.

Schoen and Daboll have maybe 1-2 years to work with before they're canned. If they take a running back and get more draft capital for future years, they won't have a chance to actually see those players get picked.

  14. Sorry to be the turd in the punch bowl, but asking ChatGPT or any GPT to simulate any team or player's season will always result in something positive happening.

The GPT does this because it gives the input priority over other variables in the model. Google search "Chat GPT Model for Raiders season" or even Browns. Same thing.

It's a bit of fun, but shouldn't ever be considered predictive because it is heavily biased.

    Run stuffing menace

Pile Driver. Have him carry Josh for 1st downs

    Goal Line back

in all seriousness I’d take a chance on him

Guy could lose 75 lbs with professional coaches and become a nightmare for the rest of the NFL

He could lose 75 lbs and still be 10lbs heavier than the heaviest current NFL player (379 lbs).

This thread is a really good sorting mechanism for those who "know ball" and those who don't.

It's not a good thing to be 85lbs heavier than every other player in the NFL. He's slow as molasses and you can simply GO AROUND players that big. Not to mention zero pass rush potential.

Being predictable in the NFL is not a good thing. A humungous guy who can't run and can't pass rush is not an asset. It's a speed bump.
