I wanted them to draft James Hardy (may he rest in peace) and thought he would be the answer at WR they needed so badly.

Me too.  My 2 great errors in judgment were praising the drafting of Sammy & Hardy. I thought they'd both be exceptional. The jury is still out on Peterman but I thought he was a steal in the 6th. I may have to do 5 " Our Fathers " . One for every Charger pick.... I guess my greatest sin is why I'm a 50 year Bill's fanatic in the first place......OJ

not only that but if he is tied with or slightly better than a.j.in camp, why wouldn't they trade or dump a.j.'s deal? nate's got the skills to start off the season on a winning note. not only do i hope he wins the opener, but he and our new defense put a clinic on a bigtime payback against the bolts week 2 at the home opener.

With the 10M wrapped up in AJ, I don't see them bailing on McCarron early. So unless he just sucks in preseason,  it's AJ's to lose. All 3 guys will get reps with the 1's....

As much as I'm on Peterman's side, I think too much is made out of him playing against the Chargers defense.

I honestly didn't even know they had a sack-happy defense until after the game. Perhaps because they didn't have much of a buzz having relocated to a new stadium.

Peterman just didn't have a good showing in his first start, but I'm not sure the game takes the turn it did if the first pick off of DiMarco's fingertips doesn't happen.

The game started with a simple completion and then another up the field to Benjamin; it seemed as though Peterman was playing within himself and the offense up to the interception.

After that, I think Peterman began pressing trying to redeem himself with the impact play.

Before the season started last season, I stated that Peterman would probably end up second on the depth chart at QB despite the other more experienced QBs brought in because he looked very comfortable playing under center, in a pro-style offense at Pitt and for putting up solid numbers during his time there.

So I feel like it was more McDermott having genuine faith in Peterman being able to handle the responsibility of leading the offense, than simply trying to see if they needed to draft a QB once the season ended.

I think that is why people are so dumbfounded as to why Peterman finds himself in the position he's in, being granted the opportunity to win the starting role.

McDermott still has genuine faith in Peterman...though some think it blind faith.

I actually thought the Chargers game was the perfect game to have Peterman make his first start, they weren't a team on fire up to that point, but more than that he would be making his first start in front of only 25,000 people versus the usual 70,000 plus serving as the Chargers 12th man.

I think the Chargers had a 3rd or 4th ranked sack defense going into that game. If I was coach I definitely wouldn't have chosen that game to debut Peterman. And it didn't help that the online quit. The few amount of fans was irrelevant. Nate played better in the home snow Colts game. I see him making the 53.

I believe it's high likely that Benjamin, Jones, Kerley, and Holmes make the roster. That leaves, at most, two spots open.

So the question becomes: who takes the final two spots?

    Brandon Reilly
    Ray Ray McCloud
    Austin Proehl
    Robert foster
    Malachi Dupre
    Rod Streater
    Quan Bray

Two of the top four listed guys seem likely to me.

    ....give me Reilly & Foster

Ask Nate Peterman about the pocket collapsing vs. San Diego.

With the announcement of Nate playing over TT,  the oline mailed in that game. Tape doesn't lie. It was disgraceful. They won't have that luxury if they want to keep AJ or Allen alive.

When healthy, both Edelman & Benjamin are pretty even, although they offer completely different skill sets.

If Brandin Cooks was was still in the AFCE, I'd throw him a notch above both, but I think it's a tossup between Edleman & Benjamin.

However, when it comes to consistency & making clutch plays, I'd take Edelman. It's not always the big TD or 50 yard bomb that makes the difference in the game, but picking up those small first downs in crucial moments, or being able to elude one tackle and eek out that extra yard that can change a game. Edelman does that every game, while Benjamin is more like Watkins & disappears for stretches at a time.

funny most sites have Edelman and Benjamin ranked between 35-39 best wr.  Not a lot of star wr's in the afce....

Think the "big" free agent signings next year will be at wr and along the offensive line.

My guess is they won't necessarily go on a spending spree next off season but instead begin to fine tune the roster as they develop drafted talent

I think the majority of the cap will go to proven offensive players with the majority of the draft to defense!  2018 is just a prelude to what should be a very exciting 19' season.

The possibility of a UDFA making the 53 is always a compelling story this time of year. The hype has less to do with his ability, and more to do with the notion that someone with so little experience could become a decent NFL player. I've been following DeBeer for these reasons, more or less. It helps that it's a position of such acute need. And, if our staff can find these sorts of people, then that gives us hope and confidence in "The Process," as it were.

....over 30% of active NFL players were UDFA. The Patriots usually have the most every year. Considering how weak we are at wr, it wouldn't shock me to see Foster make this team....

A few years ago, Tom Brady had a quote which I have referenced here several times since.

He said something like "A lot of quarterbacks in the NFL waste plays, I hate wasting plays and almost never waste a play."

What he meant was that if you are smart enough and do enough homework, you should be able to stand at the line of scrimmage, before the balls is snapped, and tell if a called play is going to work or not work...and if it looks bad, you change the play to one that will work and go with that one.

Tyrod, for example, is not smart enough to function on that level, so he wasted plays all the time.

It relates to what the OP is saying.  The QB needs to "see" the play before the ball is snapped, have a good idea what will happen based on the D formation, and go with what works.  I agree that is often all figured out before the ball is snapped.

Look at how long Brady holds onto the ball!  He throws so quickly he must be throwing to a predetermined target much of the time.  He isn't holding the ball long enough to "wing it" during a live play.

Let's not kid ourselves. We haven't had a qb capable of properly changing plays at the LOS since Jim.

  10. Just give me a qb willing to take some risks with 50/50 balls. Give me a qb who can get to 60%. Give me a qb with leadership qualities. If Allen can get close to any of these traits then I'll be satisfied. Give him time to develop like Rodgers.

  11. all I know is if this kid doesn't get a decent opportunity to help the Bills, it will be a real shame.

Yes he is getting cut omfg

As crazy as that sounds...yes it might actually be true

The bills have not been aggressive in the WR market at all....Kerley probably the biggest addition (and by the looks of things is setting into that slot wr position quite nicely)

Reilly looks like a outside receiver to me.....he is big strong catches everything....ran a 4.42 so he had speed.

He is gonna get his shot

I can still remember some ridiculous catches he made last preseason on some poorly thrown balls. Then he went down with the concussion. They gotta give him a shot.
