I think saying there is "next to 0 chance Beane takes Worthy", when the Bills have clearly done a lot of work with him and met with him -- including some late-in-the-process extra work -- is silly. YOU may not like him, and if it makes you feel better to convince yourself that there's "next to 0 chance" of the Bills drafting him, that's fine. But the reality of the situation is that it's very much a possibility.
As for him being a massive bust: I disagree. All this "he'll never get off the line" stuff completely ignores the way modern NFL offenses scheme receivers open. It completely ignores the recent success of guys like Tyreek Hill, Zay Flowers, and Hollywood Brown. It ignores the success of offenses like the Dolphins.
The modern NFL game is all about speed. Speed, speed, speed. It's one of the hardest things to defend. Having a guy who can both take the top off a defense and open things up for the players underneath AND be explosive in terms of RAC is hugely important. It's not just me saying it. Beane and McDermott both spent the offseason talking about adding speed, explosivity, and RAC to the offense. Worthy has all of those things. He also has three years of quality production at Texas.
He is NOT a "straight line speed only", one trick pony. He has lateral quickness, route running ability, toughness, and smarts.
We can agree to disagree on the issue. I think Worthy is gonna be a very good player, and I think he would make perfect sense as the Bills' preferred choice.-

After sleeping on it, I still think the plan, in order of preference, is:
A) Trade up fairly high for Odunze or Nabers
B) Draft Xavier Worthy either at 28 or even after a small trade upC) Trade down to net a 3rd round pick, draft one of Franklin, Legette, or McConkey
I'm sticking with that. Any outcome other than one of those three will actually surprise me.
The late-in-the-process smoke around trading up (for Odunze in particular) and the late checks on Worthy ring true to me. Many will say "smokescreen!", "lying season", etc, but...nah. I buy it.
Both guys would give our offense something it currently lacks. Odunze would give us a true playmaking X. Worthy would give us an explosive downfield and RAC threat that would open things up for the other guys.
We'll see in 40 hours or so!-

The two scenarios for the Bills are either:
1) Trade up for Rome Odunze2) Xavier Worthy
It's gonna be one of those two things.
I like the idea of both. A true alpha X receiver would be great. A truly electrifying Z receiver with terrifying speed to open up the middle for Kincaid, Shakir, Samuel, and Cook is great. Either one would improve the Bills offense greatly. Two different flavors, but both would make us more dynamic.
I really believe it's down to those two options as the most likely.-

I know this is already in the "NFL draft rumors" thread, but given that it involves the team this forum is based on, and involves the position we all know they desperately need, and given that it's based on the reporting of at least one credible source....surely it deserves its own thread, no? I can't be the only one who doesn't regularly check the draft rumors thread. If it gets merged, so be it.

Legette has sky high potential, but he also has probably the most risk of the guys expected to go in first 2 rounds. I don't think he is ready to be a complete WR1 at the next level and has a lot to work on that could take a couple seasons before you know what you have in him long term. Which is why I like some other guys in the first over him.
My stance is...I won't hate the pick if he is who we take in the first, his potential is still exciting...but I will be cautiously optimistic on year 1 expectations to say the least. I would feel more comfortable taking him in the 2nd though, again, he does have elite potential, it is just that he also proabably has the highest bust risk too.

I don't view Legette as having the highest bust risk at all.
I think Adonai Mitchell has a far higher risk of busting than Legette.
Legette suffered through injuries, motorcycle accident, etc, all throughout college. When finally healthy, he posted 1200+ yards and 7 TDs in the SEC. He is known to have an exceptional work ethic.
Mitchell's career BEST year saw him post 845 yards and 11 TDs. He doesn't have the injuries to fall back on that Legette had, either. And whereas Legette's work ethic is lauded, the word on Mitchell is that he takes plays off when the ball isn't coming his way.
Give me the guy who was hurt a bunch, but who -- when healthy -- put together an excellent year of production the SEC over the guy who, despite having all-world measurables, never posted even 850 yards receiving in a given season.
I could even argue that I feel Brian Thomas Jr has a higher bust potential than Legette, but there's no need to open that can of worms, too.
At the end of the day, I think it's all personal preference and "Beauty in the eye of the beholder". We've all talked circles around these prospects for three months. Time for the draft to just get here, so that we can see how NFL teams feel about these guys.

Just came here to say that Xavier Legette being ranked as a "back half of round 1 player" is not at all controversial, shocking, or worthy of scorn.
Scouts are higher on him than the draft community.
We all become completely certain of things because the draft analysis community tells us these things over and over and over again and we take it as gospel. But year after year after year, they're wrong about a lot of things.
Remember the year Ryan Nassib came out and many had him mocked in the first round? Scores and scores of mock drafts had him as a 1st round or, at worst, 2nd round player. He went in the 4th.
That's just one random example, but there are TONS of them.
So just because the mock draft industry told you that Legette won't go at, say, pick 22, doesn't mean he won't. Just because they say Brian Thomas Jr is absolutely the 4th best WR prospect doesn't mean they're right.
Furthermore, if "only one year of notable production in college" is the reason we're writing Legette off, then lets please also write off Brian Thomas Jr and Adonai Mitchell and the majority of the other good WR prospects, please and thank you. There are a lot of one-year-wonders this year, and not all of them even have the medical justifications that Legette has.

Yep. That was a riot.
I've only been to two TBD tailgates, and weirdly enough, I didn't meet any of the people that I most often converse with on here. Both times, I figured I'd be putting a lot of faces to names, and both times, that didn't really wind up being the case.
Then the one time I finally thought "now here's someone I know!", it turned out be a woman who was...not you. Subterfuge!

Odunze is a stud and would be the Bills' WR1 instantly and for years to come.
He's a tick below Nabers and MHJ, but would still be WR1 in most draft years.
He's awesome. The Bills should only be so lucky.-

Harrison is the higher floor but Nabers' explosiveness gives him a higher ceiling. Nabers comes with less discipline though. I wouldn't be surprised if Arizona still picks Harrison first just because he is such a safe pick.
-The feedback on Brian Thomas Jr is surprising poor. Coaches talking about his lack of a route tree, lack of ball skills, lack of physicality, lack of that edge that WRs need to be elite. FWIW these are the same exact concerns I have about him.
-On Xavier Worthy, a couple coaches specifically point out that he is NOT John Ross as a prospect, specifically that his route running is better. One coach says "he's really impressive to talk to" and praised his mentality. This sounds like a player Brandon Beane would love, although I doubt he makes it to #28.
Just wanted to reiterate all three points you just highlighted.
I have believed for a couple weeks now that Nabers has a good chance to be the first WR drafted, and that many NFL teams (if not the majority) have him over MHJ. The things he does best are exactly what is en vogue in the NFL right now.I, too, have some serious concerns about BTJ. He is a height/weight/speed guy who seems to be seriously lacking in some of the most important traits and abilities that a WR can possess. I understand teams thinking they can coach him up, and obviously the physical tools are intriguing, but...he scares the bejesus out of me. I don't think he has much of a floor. I think his floor is "outright bust".
And lastly, anyone who thinks Worthy is John Ross or any kind of one-trick pony just hasn't watched him much. They key is that he doesn't just have straight line speed, he also has lateral speed, quickness, and agility, and it allows him instant separation on shorter routes at times. I think he's gonna be a very good player in this league.
Can't wait for draft night, and God I hope Beane and crew choose wisely from the WR pool.-

Yep.
The best jerseys in the league are all either the classics -- Raiders, Bears, Packers, Chiefs, Cowboys -- or have gone back to a more classic look, like the Chargers, Bills, 49ers, and Jets.
Dolphins, Broncos, and Seahawks fans all want their teams to wear throwbacks full time, the Browns are moving back to a more classic look, and Bills fans also want to see the 90s throwbacks at least as alternates.
Simple and classic is good. New age-y, arena league looking stuff never looks as good and never lasts as long.-

I also happen to believe the whispers I'm hearing about them adding a veteran WR of a higher profile than some might expect. -
The list of WRs they've spent the most time with seems to point more to the 2nd round and beyond.
I wonder if a draft night trade for a veteran WR and then another addition to the WR room on night two or three is in order...-

Everyone and their mother has been saying for several seasons now that Josh Allen needs more weapons and the Bills need to re-allocate some of their defensive spending to the offense.
So by all means, let's let Gabe Davis walk, trade away Stefon Diggs, and draft a raw project DE at 28 that'll take three years to hit his stride.

I'm not doing this with you today.
It is my opinion that you're fixating on and exaggerating Worthy's negative qualities and completely ignoring his positive qualities.
The fastest 40 time in combine history, to go along with a freshman breakout season, three straight years of quality production at Texas, and a likely 1st or 2nd round draft position, all indicate that Worthy is a legitimate weapon, and that NFL teams view him as such.
It's fine that you don't like the prospect. I do. Like I said, we can agree to disagree. We'll see in a day or two where he winds up, and we can check back in with each other as his career in the NFL goes along.
People get far too certain about draft prospects and far too emotionally invested in their success or failure. I like him. You (very clearly and evidently) do not. C'est la vie.
