Some of these guys will be back though and with the cap space we have we'll have room for at least a few outside FA's.

I just don't see the point of trying to build exclusively through the draft especially with so many picks next year but obviously Beane is determined to make his mark with his first official draft as Bills GM.

Considering he knows infinitely more about football I'll go with his plan vs. yours.

  2. People keep talking about all these needs we have, but you look at some of the guys we have out there that are contributing and doing well and I wonder how many truly critical needs we have.

    Position by position:

QB: I think they take one day 1 or 2. If TT gets them to the playoffs he earns the right to come back, but I think Peterman will be very competitive and adding a rookie only helps.

RB: Not a popular thing to folks, but they could benefit from taking a RB high if they see another Shady like guy. Can you imagine if the kid from Penn St is available.

TE: An absolute need? No, unless they let Clay go for cap reasons. O'Leary is pretty good and Thomas is coming around. Would be an area to look at though.

O line: A tackle is a need, and I could see a round 1 pick here. Dawkins may move inside, and Groy as well.

D line: People say we need a DT, and if Kyle retires then it becomes a priority. But the guys we have in thee are playing well. We could use an edge rusher to complement Hughes,: Lawson is a Phil Hansen type, sets the edge well and is great against the run.

LB: Some say we have to get two LBs but I'm not sure I see that. Brown is playing pretty well. People say McD wants his Kuechly; well wouldn't any team? And Humber and Milano look to both be starting caliber LBs. Don't see this as a really high priority unless they see a guy theyr eally like up there.

DB: We look really good at safety with Hyde and Poyer, and now Elston showing he has something. CBs are pretty good. Maybe a third day thing since you can never have enough CBs.

So I'm not sure I see an absolute need anywhere. Maybe RT, and I think that plus adding DTs may be a priority as McD seems to want to build from inside out. No question in my mind they take a QB high. And if they took a stud RB high I wouldn't be shocked.

I posted that I would have been ok with a third or a decent player under the circumstances (if they were going to get rid of him at all). We may end up missing him or at least be pissed off watching him play well for Marrone.

As for Dareus, some have tried to justify this by claiming he is a "cancer" and BS like that. He clearly was not a "cancer" if you ask his teammates. He seems like a decent kid who has not hurt anyone in his life and has had one tragedy after another.

I wish him well. It will piss me off if he plays well under Marrone. I cannot stand Marrone, but Marrone knows him well and apparently has no issue with Dareus in his team's locker room.

I wish him well too. I agree he didn't seem to be a cancer in terms of attitude with other players. But I would compare it to a chronic infection. You don't want it to spread.

    I felt the same way.

For those of you who easily dismiss him as a "cancer" (although Kyle and his teammates say otherwise) or claim that he should be more like Kyle, let's try to remember that Dareus did not grow up with the advantages that I presume most of the people here did. His life has been one tragedy after another.

Dareus actually seems like a decent guy. He apparently really liked Buffalo and thought of the city as a constant in his life given that not a lot of other things were.

He now plays for the Jags, and we can all be excited by what awaits us when we use that 6th round draft choice.

From what I can discern from your posts today and yesterday you'tre upset that we did not get a 4th vs a 6th in trade. Well, is that really enough of a difference to continually B word and moan about this? And if he actually does get his head on straight it could turn into a 5th round. Like the round Kyle and Milano went if I recall correctly. And if a 6th maybe there's a QB from Michigan that got shunted aside and burns with the desire to show everyone they were wrong waiting when we pick there.

I have said on several occasions that I feel for the kid and the issues in his personal life, and that the team should have gotten him whatever counseling resources he needed to adjust. I don't know the depth to which they got him that counseling, nor whether he took advantage of any resources offered. But what I do know is that, at some point, you have to decide you will be accountable for your own actions, and after his big contract was signed he was never the same player. He has played under different coaches with different approaches and none have apparently motivated him. Because motivation ultimately comes from inside oneself.

I hope the kid finally gets it. As a general rule I hate to see young people waste their talents. But looking at the history of guys like Coughlin and Marrone, no nonsense types, realistically I can't see that the light somehow turns on for him in JVille. To me it's more likely he gets cast aside. And that's sad.

  5. i'm 40 now, and if i try to drink at the game the way i did in my 20s, it takes me two days to get back to baseline. now i drink like a gentleman.

you keep pushing that this management is letting people go only for the reason of money. you really still think that's the reason? i just don't think you have any ability to see the big picture.

Regarding the latter, it's because he's living in the past and thinks for some reason that either Brandon is making decisions (anyone remember the last time we saw his name anywhere Bills related) or that somehow he thinks the Pegulas are in the poorhouse (I guess being worth over 3 billion isn't enough).

It's either those or outright paranoia.

  6. Ah, I see I forgot to put a smiley emoji on my original post. No, I don't need my predictions to be right, they just have been the last couple decades...

In no way do I want the Bills to lose so my pre-season picks are correct, that's silly. I'm not a gambler so I gain nothing in that scenario.

I will say, that I am not yet convinced. I need to see this team actually beat the Patriots when it matters.

When they beat Brady to win the division, my ears will perk up after about 20 years.

Cool. We should all be pretty psyched right now.

  7. Normally, yep.

If they beat the Jets Thurs, then I just might start to think this is not the Same Old Bills. I'm 44 years old, I need more convincing than the younger Bills fans.

I'm 61. I'm convinced they are a better team than those that fell apart recently. And when you say you still have a chance to be right and that they'll lose the rest of their games so your prediction is true? You're rooting for them to lose.

  8. I saw him play. One of the best we ever had. One of the best all around football players ever. Could run, block, was a kicker, and would have bee an all pro LB if he had played in that side of the ball. A head case to be sure but a terrific player.

One autograph day I was trying to wedge through the crowd around him to get him to sign and the bigger kids kept pushing me away. Cookie saw it, reached over and grabbed me and put me up on his shoulder. Never forget it.
