It would definitely have to be for the right player though. I wouldn’t want to see them just dump him for a mediocre top 6 C. Power is still pretty early in his development, especially by defenseman standards. Definitely not in any hurry to move on from him. But I think a true top 6 C (and really, a #1 C) is more important with the way the Sabres roster is currently constructed and with what’s in their pipeline at C and D. They have some good potential top 4 D prospects but don’t really have a true top 6 C in the pipeline, or even on their current NHL roster for that matter (Norris is a top 6 center but never seems able to play more than 1/2 a season. You can’t rely on him). I think Kulich can be a top 6 C long term but he isn’t there yet and McLeod should not be in the top 6 (he belongs at 3C). Maybe one day Ostlund could be a top 6 C but that’s certainly not something I’d bank on, and Helenius looks more like a future bottom 6 C than a top 6 C.

Another nice win! They played a solid 3 periods again tonight. Though they did make me a bit nervous in the 3rd. When the leafs got within a goal then started pressing hard to tie it, I was just waiting for the Sabres to give up a goal. It looked like a familiar late game collapse was coming. But it never did! lol
Lyon made a huge save on Macelli then Power made a great play to get Tuch the empty netter and seal the win. I didn’t think it was Lyon’s best overall game, but he came up big when it mattered.
Lyon seems like a great veteran addition to the locker room. I love his media interviews. He seems like an experienced, calming presence for the team. And with him playing such a big role right now I think his words carry more weight (vs. if he was just a backup).
Tage seems to be maturing as a leader. I’ve liked what he’s had to say so far this season. Hopefully he’s starting to get going now. We just need Dahlin to join the party. lol. He’s Buffalo’s best player but he’s been anything but that to start this season. Imagine once he gets going too, and they add in Kesselring, and if Samuelsson keeps playing like he has… The blue line could be a true strength this season.
I’ve actually been enjoying watching their games. I sure hope that continues. I so badly want to have a reason to be a die hard Sabres fan again. I miss it. But my guard is still up for sure, and I know how little patience I have for them. It’s going to take more for me to fully invest again. They were in a playoff position at Thanksgiving last season after all (which usually predicts a playoff berth).

That was definitely their best game of the season so far. Good in all phases - PK, PP and 5v5 for all 3 periods. They played with energy, forechecked hard and stuck up for each other. Good team D too.
Like Dahlin said, that’s how they need to play every game moving forward. If they do they will win more often than they lose.
Really loving what Josh Doan is bringing to this team. I feel like Doan and Benson both raise the compete level of the entire team. They both look like very important players to the Sabres future right now. Hopefully that holds true. lol
Timmins has been a welcome addition so far too. He’s been great on the PK and holding his own 5v5. He looks better than Clifton for sure. Once Kesselring is back he should be a really solid 3rd pair D for the Sabres.
I can’t wait to see what Kesselring adds to the team. If he has an impact similar to or better than Doan, that could end up being a really nice trade for Buffalo. 🤞🤞
These last 2 games have me getting a bit excited about Sabres hockey again. I sure hope they can keep playing like this and banking some wins.

Yeah, neither has been good. lol
we obviously need them to be our best players to have any chance at a better season. Hopefully they start playing better soon. I really thought we may see Thompson take a step forward (again) this season after playing such an important role for the USA winning gold in that tournament and with the Olympics on the horizon.
I mean, it’s only been 3 games so there’s still plenty of time. But the overall morale of the team 3 games in is definitely concerning.

So that means the center spine looks to be Kulich, McLeod, Krebs and Danforth.
Yikes. And it sounds like Norris will miss a few weeks minimum, best case scenario, with the potential to miss a lot more time.
This is where we are at in year 6 under Kevyn Adams. One injury to a very often injured center and they now have a group of centers that look like what you’d see on a team in the first year or two of a full rebuild.
I think the most annoying part of this all is that we are in what? year 10(+) of the never ending rebuild and they don’t have an elite C prospect anywhere in the system. The entire reason they decided to tank was to get the type of elite top line center you can only usually get at the top of the draft and now they don’t even have that anymore.

F****** Wonderful. lolEven with Norris, their centers were easily bottom half of the league. Without him, it’s really ugly. They’re probably in trouble if he misses significant time.

I like this waiver pick up. He is a good prospect with potential and a handful of years of pro experience (ECHL and AHL). They couldn’t enter the season with Georgiev as their only other option to Lyon. Georgiev looked bad in the preseason, and the last # of seasons too for that matter.
I’d definitely rather see them take a chance on someone like Ellis who has a chance to be a good, long term solution vs. Georgiev who has already shown that he’s not.
I wonder if they keep Lyon, Georgiev and Ellis on the NHL roster, or if Georgiev gets released?

I don’t know if he’s fallen out of favor. I think Kevyn still loves him. But I do think they have at least stopped treating him as the anointed one (lol) and realized he needs to be properly developed, not forced into the NHL. And that legit competition for him is a good thing.
I suspect Lindy has a lot to do with the new approach.

It looks like he’s giving Edmonton 2 more years (beyond this season) to win a cup and took a huge discount in AAV to help them do it.

From everything that’s been reported I don’t think McDavid is looking for a max deal. If he wanted max term+AAV from the oilers, he could easily get it. He doesn’t need any other player to set the market for him.
He doesn’t seem willing to commit to Edmonton long term right now. He wants to win Stanley cups. That seems to be his only true motivation.
rumors are he may sign short term with Edmonton, and at a slight discount like he took with his last contract (where he actually approached his agent and told him to take $1M off per year because he didn’t feel comfortable making over $13M/yr at the time).
I do think this raised the price of signing Tuch though.

I remember after one particularly terrible game by EJM, he was asked by a reporter about his poor play and said “coach said I’m playing well”. 🤦♂️😂

I only watched a few minutes of the 3rd period of last night’s game so I can’t say much about how they played in that one. But I thought they looked good in game 1. Their first period was not great but then I thought they kind of took over the game after that.
I’m surprised TBH, but I do find myself starting to feel a bit hopeful about this season.

Praying for you and your daughter!
Eating disorders are rough. My younger cousin had a couple different eating disorders when she was younger. She did a lot of therapy to address it and eventually it did help. She also had an episode where she ended up in the hospital and I think that was a big wake up call for her. Things seemed to slowly start getting better after that. So I’m hoping the same happens for your daughter!
If you ever want me to reach out to my cousin about this, for resources or advise or whatever, just let me know!
