Tage started slow last year and then ripped it up. Rags and isles always give us fits

Yep. They both play (boring) styles of defense that always seem to give the Sabres trouble. They aren’t good when teams take away all their time and space to create.

First line has been completely ineffective. Tage has been mostly invisible which is tough to do when you're 7'6".  Peterka, Cozens, and the Mitts line are generating all the chances.

I thought Tage was bad in game one and a bit better against the islanders but still not good enough. Tuch and Skinner look invisible so far. Hopefully it’s not one of Skinner’s down years. Right now he looks like the bad version of Skinner.

Greenway/Mittelstadt/Benson has been by far their best line the first 2 games.

I’ve been impressed with Greenway. He looks a LOT better than last season. Mittelstadt has been Buffalo’s best center. And Benson is staying for more than 9 games if he keeps playing like he has. You could argue that Benson has looked like the Sabres best player (during preseason and the first 2 games).

Peterka has been decent. I’ve thought Cozens has looked like crap though.

Clifton looked lost again. I hope it’s just growing pains in a new system. He went from a team known for great structure and team defense (Boston) to a team that’s basically the opposite (Buffalo).

I thought Levi looked pretty good after that first goal. I also thought the Sabres looked bette in general in the 2nd and 3rd period.

The officiating was atrocious. The NYI got away with crap all game long.

I thought that 3rd goal was Offside. He didn’t have possession of the puck when he crossed the blue line. He didn’t touch the puck again until both skates were clearly across the line.

Definitely a disappointing start to the season but I’m trying not to overreact. Yet.

    lol

  3. Opening night!!!!

I am really excited for this season. I actually plan to watch every game I can. That’s the first time I’ve said that before a season in at least a couple/few years now. I used to always watch every game, every interview, etc. but all the losing just killed my interest. Now I’m back to being excited

My only real concern is goaltending. I’m not 100% sold on Clifton and EJ but I do feel better knowing they at least addressed the defense. Goaltending feels like a huge gamble to me. Honestly, I still can’t believe we are entering the season with a 21yr old rookie set to be their #1 with no real backup plan outside of the 2 guys that already failed last season (and neither were even able to lock down a backup role this preseason, which doesn’t make me feel too good about either of them at the moment). Don’t get me wrong, I am hopeful Levi is up to the task. But it’s hard not to be worried about the plan, especially when there’s so few 21yr old goalies that have stepped into starting roles in the NHL right from college and even fewer that have done well. We obviously all hope Levi is different and up to the challenge but it sure would’ve been nice to have a legit backup plan.

  4. With all of the turnover on the business side of the Bills and Sabres, it’s hard not to feel like the Pegulas are difficult to work for/please.

I’d be curious to see how the turnover compares to other NFL teams.

edit - can’t blame this one on Pegula. A boss can’t be sleeping with employees…

  5. I am big into home theater and speakers/subwoofers so I follow a number of channels dedicated to that.

like this one. He’s into DIY, which is the next area I plan to get into.

  6. Fair deal! That’s about what I expected on an 8 year deal, and with the cap set to significantly rise soon, this deal will look better and better as time goes on.

Im just glad they locked him in for max term (8yrs). There were a lot of rumors about 4 or 5 year deals at an AAV of $10.5M (ish). Now that would have been an unfavorable deal for the Sabres. I would have felt like Dahlin was trying to do what Auston Matthews did to Toronto and squeeze every penny he could out of the team, taking short term, high AAV deals.

  7. I usually watch every Bills game. But Knowing how much the Bills always seem to struggle against the jaguars I decided to sleep in today and set the DVR to record the game. I didn’t even bother turning the game on when I woke up. I read a quick recap and decided to get on with my Sunday. Looks like I made the right choice! lol

One analyst, however, brought up one dilemma involving the questionable email attached to @DannyFootball77 — the Steelers use steelers.nfl.com to end their email address, not steelers.com. We can confirm here at Pro Football Network that this is the email pattern the Steelers — and other NFL teams — use for their employees.

So in other words, they wrote an entire article about this despite there being no proof it’s Matt Canada.

Yes, that was painful to listen to. Hadn't listened to him in a long time and my first thought was he had a stroke. Looked it up and it turns out it is a different condition;  Mitochondrial Dysfunction, which I'd never heard of. It causes fatigue, muscle weakness and neurological problems. It's really too bad for him, but for fans' sake, he should retire. Or perhaps they could have him do spots on their intermission show.

Same here. I hadn’t heard edwards call a game in years and my first thought was “did he have a stroke?” so I googled it and found the same thin you did.

Jeebus, Zach Benson is going to make the big club isn’t he?!  Gosh he just reminds me of Danny Briere so much.  Kids gonna be a stud.  Just turned 18.

Now you all can see why I was so hyped on draft night when he fell to #13!

are fans still worried about his size? 😉 lol

yeah, he’s going to be a good one.

(edit - I get why his size was a concern. I wasn’t mocking anyone for that, just to be clear)

Here is some visual context for those who haven’t sat in the corner suites before. Where Takeo is sitting is a side room of the normal corner-end zone suites.

Here is a photo of the room (actually, it’s the 2nd floor of the same room).

There is more to Spikes’ photo. Fewer than half of the NFL teams offer their alumni any suite at all. Former players and fans who’ve watched from the large suite say the image would have looked starkly different had Spikes moved a few feet to his left. Three Bills sources with direct knowledge of the situation say Spikes also was given two seating remedies, but he refused, with one of the sources saying Spikes seemed intent on taking the issue public.

seems like he purposely chose that photo angle to make it look worse than it is. He was also offered 2 different remedies to the situation and refused.

“He painted a far worse picture to prove a point,” said a former Bills executive who has been in the suite with alumni. He spoke on the condition of anonymity because he still interacts with alumni. “Those guys all talk. This had been festering for a while, and he took the opportunity.

“That’s not to say the Bills can’t do better, but there’s a lot of good being done there too.”

The Bills are one of 15 teams that offer an alumni suite, according to the NFL Legends Community office. The Bills and Green Bay Packers are the only clubs who are in a small market and play in an older stadium. Las Vegas is the next-smallest market with an alumni suite, but its two-year-old Allegiant Stadium is hosting Super Bowl 55. The smallest market after that is Miami.

leas than 1/2 of NFL teams even offer alumni suites.

  11. So far I think they look like a McDermott defense again. This is similar to what his defense played like in Carolina and his first couple seasons in Buffalo.

I felt like maybe Frazier took more control of the defense the last few years and so far it appears that might have been the case. Time will tell though. The real test will be the playoffs I think.
