  1. It’s interesting to me he used the word “leaders” and not “talent”. I think we are putting words in his mouth talking about the talented players only. It’s proven this guy loves old less talented leaders and puts a premium on these players. Sometimes to the detriment of talent. The more I think about talent the more I think the greatest talent (best NFL players) were frequently not leaders. Many (most?) were self-centered guys with a tremendous amount of individualistic drive to be the best at their position.
  2. When we get to the SB (and win) we can revisit this idea. Until then, let’s get a team on players capable of getting us there first.
  3. How about just using these guys based on their strengths/talents as an easy first step? This OC designs plays as if the team is full of Pro Bowlers. In doing so he puts our avg talent in hard to succeed situations. And then guess what, they don’t or can’t execute the play!?!?
  4. Neal seems to get a pass on the missed sack, he got there first if I recall. Then Milano came in and the double collision from opposite sides kept Watson upright rather than falling over had he got hit from only one side. Just a matters of physics not some supernatural strength by Watson. So I vote missed block.
  5. With the game on the line ....
  6. I agree. That play and the Watson double sack was lack of execution not some poor D philosophy; players not tackling or knowing where the first down was. The blitz by Neal was dialed perfectly but executed terribly.
  7. A Gore rush is essentially a kneel down.
  8. Right! We know their win/loss scoring above or below 20 pts. The D has shown consistently to be able to hold anybody to around that number. The offense needs to average another 6 pts/game (at least) and then you’ll see us winning close games against good teams and blowing out bad teams. A WR, RT, reliable TE, and good backup RB could easily get us those 6 pts. Let’s hope the staff hits on those.
  9. They have shown on numerous occasions to be able to identify and acknowledge when they’re wrong and correct it. I think that shows they know they’re still learning. The hard part, being a leader of men, is why most coaches fail. I think this staff has that. I’m not certain how McD gets better in-game though, that’s his biggest weakness and it doesn’t seem to be improving. His personnel decisions could use some upgrade as well. Overall we are in a good position comparatively, but unless the coaches and young talent make some leaps quickly our window may start to close.
  10. On that play Lee Smith was also way downfield with DiMarco. What play call has these two speedsters running 40 yd routes?
  11. I don’t think he’ll be on the team next year, but for only starting 3 games I think he produced better than expected. One drop was the DB knocking his hand after the ball was caught.
  12. Perhaps “playing not to win” should be replaced with “playing conservatively and hoping to win”.
  13. Very frustrating once we cross midfield. We get there with ease and then immediately start going backwards with Gore runs, holds, Offside, or dumb Allen sacks. The FG that was the goal is never a guarantee. If the goal was TD, maybe things would be different?
  14. Looking at the last month of games, the Bills limped into the playoffs, never scored more than 17 pts and only beat the Steelers. Houston beat the Pats and Titans and scored around 24 pts/game in that stretch. At the risk of injury, I think (in hindsight) it was a poor decision playing to not win in NE and sitting starters week 17. This team was rolling end of November but we took our foot off the gas, especially once we clinched. Hard to make a playoff run not coming in hot. We are a better team than Houston. Our coaches are decent schemers but terrible at in-game management and adjustments. The team reflects that in their “chicken with head cut off” approach during crunch time. Spontaneity is lost on this team. I hope this experience hardens them, and creates the poise and discipline necessary to make the next steps in the coming season(s).
  15. Shows this staff can scheme a good game but in-game management and adjustments are severely lacking. Starts with HC.
  16. Foster has 64 receiving yards in 13 games. That got us here?
  17. My 2 year old daughter spilled milk on my leg before nap today and it made this mark (below).
  18. I blame McD for the lineups. I actually think adding these two will help Daboll with plays designed for their skill sets.
  19. If that is Daboll’s plan I don’t trust him in the bigger games to: 1) design new plays that will work, and 2) have the young players execute those new plays. Putting more plays that have worked (or close) on tape will make it equally hard for a D to know what’s coming, IMO. And give the players practice in real situations. Holding some gadget play that might blow up in their back pocket wreaks of desperation and lack of imagination to me.
  20. I mostly agree but you can’t exorcise the ghosts of the past until you drop an L on the Pats. You can’t be a true contender being the 2nd best team in your division. We’re close, but things need to progress quickly. The Rams/Eagles were nascent but already declining. In this league (apart from NE) dynasties last 2-3 years. The window to take a title is short-lived. I think we’re all frustrated that we saw a pretty poor effort by our squad but still had a chance to beat one of the best. NE played nearly flawless and better than late, and we were one play away. There’s hope there. Let’s hope on our second chance that both the coaches scheme and players execute better.
