What I meant was dinner n a few years you won't be able to watch Bills games for free over the air. Meaning those who don't want to pay for it will lose out.

II disagree with that also. The long established networks like CBS, ABC, and NBC and Fox generate HUGE amounts of revenue from advertisers. Also, they use viewership from football games to promote their own primetime shows, which in turn generate more advertising revenue. I don’t see that ever going away.

Completely disagree. As long as there’s a market for the product, there will be an outlet for it  Demand will determine pricing and the provider will always charge the maximum amount that will yield the maximum profit.

    Yep it's coming full circle.

The grumpy old men of TSW won't pay for Bills content...........but fortunately they will be able to read about the results and transactions every morning on TSW.

"For chrissake the Bills traded Bullfrog!  The only guy they got left for 4 eyes Schottenhoffer!".

With all due respect, I have no idea what you just said

We'll be cycling back to cable being cheaper than streaming in a few years.

I've said this is the past.

Everyone was so proud to 'cut the cord', thinking they were sticking it to the man. I predicted that it will only be a matter of time until the streaming services have everyone in their grasp at which time they'll have the leverage to stick it right back to the customer.  They're not there quite yet, but getting closer all the time.

Oh, it's so nice to pay $4.99 monthly for Hulu, or Peacock or Paramount.  Sure....How long before the monthly fee mirrors the Netflix model, which started out at around 7.99? Now that they have everyone hooked, it's doubled for the same service.

Those monthly smart TV app services will shoot up to $9.99/month, UNLESS, for the bargain price you want to purchase it for a full year for the low low price of only $79.99.  Of course, you'll need about 4 different services to get all the content you want. Suddenly, you realize you're paying more than you ever did with cable.

You'll be longing for the good old days of Directv, cable, and the NFL Sunday Ticket on Directv.

  4. Top notch scouting is the real key in these times of salary caps and franchise QBs who take a big chunk of the available cash. The best teams will have more hits than misses in the draft and FA. Fortunately, the Bills personnel staff have been very good at finding mid to late round picks that have become serviceable to very players. Cheap labor that can step in and get the job done when others become unaffordable high-priced veterans.

Bernard taking the place of Edmunds is a prime example, and it looks like he'll not only cheaper, but better on the field. Win win.

That's the sort of strategic roster-building that will keep the window open as long as they have Josh.

  5. No idea. I've seen quite a few games, but I believe there have been more wins than losses, including the first 2 Monday night games, KC in '73 and Raiders in '74*  I was at the 1980 game when the Dolphins were finally defeated.

It also seems that every Jet game I ever attended the Bills were on the losing end, including Kelly's debut.

    * I'm not sure why it is that the 1974 opener against the Raiders is hardly talked about or remembered, but it had a lot of the same excitement as the 13 second game. Maybe it's because in those times there were few outlets for replay, (no YouTube, VCRs, DVRs, etc), so instant access to game highlights or replays by fans was not yet thing, so maybe more easily forgotten.

OJ was injured early and missed most of the game. Ahmad Rashad made several spectacular catches. Multiple scores and lead changes in the final couple of minutes. Unlike the 13 second game, the Bills won that one on the way to making their lone playoff appearance in about 14 seasons (the mini-drought).

I'll remember past family and friends that have left this Earth and wanted to see that. They will be with me in that moment.

This 100%. But sadly, I don't believe it will ever happen.

For whatever reason, WNY seems to be under a black cloud that it will never shed. For some reason, the universe has saddled us with being the good guys who can never quite get it done.

In 55 seasons the Sabres have made it to the finals twice, and naturally, lost both. Las Vegas has only had an NHL team in like 6 years and already appeared in as many finals and won a championship. Shiny exciting Las Vegas! Not Buffalo.

The Buffalo NBA team was taken away despite strong fan support.

The Bills lost their first AFL title in 3 years to miss out on being in the first Superbowl.

And of course, 4 in a row, wide right, no goal, 13 seconds, Tim McVeigh, OJ Simpson, etc etc

We are the ever-optimistic Charlie Brown, going to finally kick that ball before Lucy snags it away. No matter how many times we see that scene, it will always be the same. No matter how many times we see the slow-motion footage of Scott Norwood's kick in Superbowl XXV, there's always some fantastical unrealistic hope that we'll see that ball go through the uprights and history is changed.

This is just the cards Buffalonians have been dealt.  The loveable losers.

On the positive side, I no longer get too upset when the Bills season is ended prematurely. I expect it. I'll still enjoy watching as long as I'm alive and able to. But win a Superbowl? Not likely. We're Buffalo. We don't get those prizes like Dallas, L.A. and those other more glamorous places enjoy.

Never more would I love to be wrong.

How can you not do what you say above if you just irrationally hate the guy, and likely, just hate winners or successful people?

Because that is exactly what they, the haters of McD,  do--'did you see that one play where he didn't call a time out when I think he needed too!!!!!! Fire him now!!!" or, for Josh, pointing to 1-2 plays of his in a game and saying,"See that!! Josh is the problem!! Trade for Zak!!!!'

As what I bolded above is exactly how they (the irrational haters) operate, which, ironically, means it is the opposite of real evidence and logic guiding them, despite the OP's implication that he is directed by that and the those who understand just how good of coach we have (the vast, vast majority of Bills' fans) are not.

So to answer your question, that is exactly what they do, how they operate.  So his post makes sense, as that is how they see things.  McDermott could have won the SB this year and do you have any doubt that they would start in with their hate as soon as the next season began or sooner? Of course they would have--and will...

They can likely thank their lucky stars that the real world--and their own bosses (hopefully) have a more rational way of looking at things.

Without deep-digging analysis, the win-loss record over a 7 year period should be enough to provide a snapshot of McD's  success.

Quick, name the other NFL coaches with a better W-L record in that same span. Reid? Probably. (I'm not digging deep). Who else?

The stupidity of the dissidents is that they NEVER offer any sure-fire solution.

I'm convinced there are fair share of posters in this forum who are not too bright, so I wouldn't really expect they'd offer solutions.

I travel a lot for work, Airports, restaurants, malls. This past year I saw Bills fans everywhere where I went. Trips to LA, Phoenix, Dallas, Ft Meyers, Ft. lauderdale Miami. Every trip i went on, I got a “Go Bills” or at least saw people, multiple people representing. This week, went through DC, Baltimore airport, Charlotte, finished up in West Palm Beach today. Saw one guy with a Bills hat all week. It was like people were embarrassed that we lost to KC again.

But really the worst thing that made me pause was the treatment and threats to Bass. How embarrassing and really down right dirty low class. I haven’t lived in Buffalo for a long time, and this was the first year I didn’t make it back for a visit. So what’s going on up there? I would hope it was just a small sample size of fans who acted out like that, but damn they were a serious black eye on the mafia. Cant tell you how many friends and co workers mentioned how nasty Bills fans are this week, Buy the end of the eeek i just gave up defending and had to agree to a point.

A couple nuts who don’t accurately reflect the fan base. Probably done dopey gambler who lost his savings. Think Billy Brown in Buffalo ‘66 who was out to get Scott Wood after wide right.

  9. It's cumulative. How can you break it down to individual moments in a specific game and draw conclusions from that? It's like isolating a few minutes in your life and defining who you are by that.

6 playoff appearances in 7 years.

    4 straight division titles.

Double digit win totals in spite of massive losses to injury.

Using the same rationale of the 'Fire McDermott' crowd, Harbaugh should be canned if his team loses this week to the Chiefs.  How many times have the Ravens missed the playoffs, not made it past wildcard round? It's been what, 12 seasons since they made it to the Superbowl?  Only 3 playoff wins in that period of time. Harbaugh must go, right?

Referencing the playoff wins and Championships won in a similar span of time, Tomlin, Shanahan, McCarthy, LeFleur should all be fired by that logic.

If the instant-gratification crowd ever grasps how difficult it is to get into the late rounds of the playoffs, let alone get on the tournament in the first place, maybe then they'll shut up about firing McDermott.

  10. What turned around the results for the Dolphins and the Ravens? Adding weapons. Receivers. What caused the Chiefs to struggle (relatively speaking) more than in the past?

When a team is spending 50 million a year on a QB, he's got to have weapons to make the most of that investment.

A second tier one WR could be the catalyst to make the passing game more effective. Go ahead, double Stef. We dare you. At some point another top receiver will create mismatches.

This has been on my mind ever since Sunday night and I just have to get it out there.

The list of great QBs who never won a Super Bowl. I define “Great” as having consistent success, excelling at the position and not a player who had an up and down career.

    Jim Kelly

    Josh Allen

    Joe Burrow

    Philip Rivers

    Tony Romo

    Dan Marino

    Donovan McNabb

    Steve McNair

    Frank Tarkenton

    Randall Cunningham

    Warren Moon

Great QBs who only won one superbowl (shows how hard it is)

    Kurt Warner

    Steve Young

    Brett Favre

    Aaron Rodgers
    Drew Brees

    Matt Stafford

(Namath, Dawson, Unitas, Stabler, Simms, Doug Williams) - I never really watched film on these guys to see if they were good/great but I can only assume they were. Shows my age

    QBs who won multiple Superbowls

    Peyton Manning

    Patrick Mahomes

    Troy Aikman

    Joe Montana

    Eli Manning

    Bart Starr

    Bob Griese

    Terry Bradshaw

    Ben Roethlisberger

    Tom Brady

    Roger Staubach

Which category will Allen fall in? I’ve come to the realization that Allen will not win multiple Superbowls and it won’t be because of Josh Allen but because of the team he plays for. We will never be a dynasty. I say he wins one in 2-3 years from now and that’s it.

Good fact-based collection of info. There are people here who seem to think that winning Championships is easier than it actually is and are ready to turn their backs on our team/coaches because they've yet to get to the promised land.

Here's some other facts to chew on:

4 teams have yet to appear in a Superbowl.

12 teams have never won it.

A few teams have won only once (Bears, Eagles, Jets)

Other teams haven't won in close to 30 or more years (Cowboys, 49ers, Washington, Dolphins), so for many fans under 40, there's little if any memory of those victories.

Add it up. Soak it in.

We tend to measure achievement against Brady and the Patriots, or now KC. Those streaks are far more uncommon than common. It's not realistic to expect championships to fall in your lap. It takes consistent play and a little luck.

Getting to a Superbowl is very difficult. Winning one is even tougher.

The Bills have been competitive for several years under McD. They've had a chance to get there. I expect it will continue.

Injuries and other external factors will always play into the results.

If the disappointment is too great, you should find some other form of entertainment. For me, there's always another season and hope.

After few days since another “Chiefs elimination”, my only thought is that unfortunately we will be stuck with McClapping.

I wanna be clear: overall he’s not a bad coach, but as many here stated tons of times, he’s not elite, he’s not a coach that can take his team to a Lombardi and win it.

I don’t know what is it, but he lacks something here and there, maybe is something about tactical skills, or maybe something about leadership and character, but he’s not a top dog, now is 6 years with Josh at QB ? With one of the top 3 QB in this League ?

So my view is that until he’ll be the coach, nothing could change about our chances to finally get there.

Honestly i envy the Chargers for the Harbaugh hire… i would like to have someone like BB… i don’t care about his past, we need a “bad man” at the helm, not some humble one.

You're 'stuck'?  There's 31 other NFL teams and a whole world of other things to do.  If it pains you so much, move on.

That's exactly what I meant. Rolling the dice on expensive veterans. How many times do we read posts here about going "all in" or " swing for the fences"? People fall in love with the idea of getting a superstar but ignore the real pitfalls like injury or a drop-off in performance because they are over 30.

I feel chasing performance is a losing strategy. By that I mean signing someone who had a good year or two, betting they will continue to be that good with your team. I'd rather see us find the emerging gems on their way up. Can you scout for those players or is it all a crap shoot? Might be, but you'll be able to move on from those players easier if they don't work out.

Right. Part of the Patriot’s strategy during their dynasty run was letting go of players with escalating salaries and declining impact, regardless of how much of a name they’d been in recent years. They were able to identify when a player had peaked and move on, rather than hope for more output. As a result they were often able to parlay their FA losses into compensation draft picks.
They never got too emotionally attached  to the point it became detrimental.

I think we need to stop going "all in" on big names and build with younger players

Not sure what that means. Other than Von Miller, they've pretty much relied on players they've developed through the draft and 'prove it deal' free agents.

Stef was effectively a draft pick, though the salary is too high to really look at it in that light.

Von was a gamble, with the Bills believing  they were close and he could be the missing piece of the D-line that would pressure the QB. Most of us were excited at the time by that anticipated impact.

Otherwise, there hasn't been a lot of money thrown at free agents.  It would be nice if they could find ways to re-sign players they've developed who are just starting to hit their stride. e.g. Epenesa, Rousseau, etc

Anyone else wonder what would have happened had the Bills put Elam singled on Kelce all night, just like a spy on the QB?. We've been told Elam is best in man-to-man coverage.

He can be good in coverage, but he also has a propensity for being grabby. I suspect the concern of untimely penalties may have been part of the thrust for keeping him on ice.

  16. The Bills were effectively playing their game 3 preseason squad on defense against the defending champions.
Milano, Bernard, Benford, and a healthy Rapp and Douglas could have made a significant difference. Add to that Gabe. Yes, he could have made a difference. Better than Sherfield anyway.

  17. Perspective. It's not life or death. It's entertainment.

As much as we all hope for the elusive Lombardi each year, the reality is that since the league went to 32 teams in 2002, 21 teams have claimed that prize. Twenty-One!

As much as we tend to measure success against teams like the Brady-led Patriots, the 80's 49'ers, and now the Chiefs, these dynasties are rare.  Getting to the dance is rare. It's unknown territory for a handful of teams.

Winning the Superbowl is every team's goal as OTAs begin. If my math is correct, 651 teams since 2002 have not reached that goal set at the beginning of the year.

I don't know if the Bills will ever get there. At least they're competitive and have a chance. So much depends on the team's health through the long season. A few lucky (or unlucky) breaks, missed calls, etc can factor into  getting there.

Yes, we have to start all over, just like 31 other teams will have to. We have a team I expect will be entertaining as long as Josh Allen is our QB. Enjoy the ride, even if it's a little bumpy at times.

    Life goes on.

Why on earth do a few knuckleheads with the maturity of a 12-year-old want to tarnish that image by throwing sex toys on the field of play?
Grow up. Represent our Bills community with some class.
