  1. The line play is as much or more responsible for this as the QBs. Manual succumbed to and escaped a good amount of immediate pressure early on in the season. Orton did turtle a lot and it got worse as time went on. There is a reason for that. I recall seeing a lot of pass plays that were dead before they even got started. Having 2-3 turnstiles on the line makes moving the ball a bit of a challenge. This upcoming season hinges on getting passable line play, which we haven't had in a couple years. It'll be interesting to see whether the first team offense practices mainly passing from the pocket (Cassel) or passing on the run, outside the pocket (EJ/Taylor). I really can't wait to see what Roman comes up with for this group. I wouldn't be remotely surprised if we see nothing of the actual offense until week 1. The element of surprise will be needed in the first couple weeks especially. We need to win both of those games and it's more than possible. We cannot fall behind in the AFC race like we did so early last year.
  2. I haven't really seen too much discussion about his lack of discipline. I haven't researched it, but it sure seems to me he averages a costly 15 yard penalty every other game. One of those at the wrong time could easily cost us a playoff spot. Will Rex reign this in? I know the type of player he is and you'll have some of that. Unfortunately, I think it's gotten to the point that the refs are watching him close and don't give him an inch. I can honestly see this being an issue for this defense. Is anyone else concerned about this?
  3. Orenthal James Simpson, of course.
  4. It's a great opener. If our D is truly special, this would be a real statement. Rex develops a perfect gameplan, and Luck struggles mightily. This, coupled with our holding Manning and Rodgers in check late last year, would make them week one darlings. This offense is nearly guaranteed to help this defense more than last year. I just bought a pair of season tickets and I am looking forward to this game, like every home opener. What will the spread be? Pick em'? Bills -1?
  5. There's a Bills greatest moments video, I believe from NFL Films, where Paul Maguire talks about McDole and someone else eating so many lobster daintees at a place in Dunkirk that they were told never to return for all you can eat night. I believe they ate their jersey # worth.
  6. Is Duke Williams really an NFL starter? I don't recall seeing too much from him, but he hasn't hasn't seen a lot of action. They need to do something at safety and not sure a draft pick is ideal. Are there any other decent veterans out there? For this D to be really good, they can't have holes. Duke Williams feels like a giant hole to me right now. Maybe Graham starts at safety. I'd be fine with that, but he's needed for corner depth. McKelvin/Gilmore aren't all that durable to this point in their careers. Anyways, what about Duke Williams?
  7. This is not a crazy idea. To bad about the relatively short career and lack of any steady team success during his tenure. He doesn't really qualify, but interesting for discussion purposes. I was 1 when he had that career game vs the Jets, but I still remember being at a game he played in. Jerry O'Dell Butler (born October 12, 1957 in Ware Shoals, South Carolina) is a former professional American football wide receiver in the National Football League. He played his entire career with the Buffalo Bills (19791986). Butler was a Pro Bowl selection in 1980. In his career, he caught 278 receptions for 4,301 yards and 29 touchdowns. On September 23, 1979, Butler had 255 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns in a win over the New York Jets. Butler has had various coaching positions in the NFL, and now serves as Director of Player Development for the Cleveland Browns.[1]
  8. I don't think anyone posted this link to current wall of fame members. It helps set the bar. It's a little surprising that OJ has survived. Phil Hansen seems like a reach, as a few others mentioned. Bennett belongs if Hansen does. Murph will qualify for sure. http://www.buffalobills.com/team/history/wall-of-fame.html
  9. Madden is unlikely to make the Bills as good as they appear to be on paper, this year. If they make the playoffs, then they'll make the Bills good. I don't play a fraction of the Madden I did 20 years ago, but it seems to me that's how it works. I'll predict the Bills to be rated an 83 overall in Madden '16. They're merely a middle of the pack team, until they achieve a playoff berth.
  10. I am not sure how many previous threads there have been on this topic. I did think about that when I posted it. I am sort of new to posting, so please enlighten me. How best to check for previous threads? Also, by posing this question, it seems you're interested in and perhaps a guru in the area of "TBD posting etiquette". When is it OK to start a new thread if one already exists on the same or similar topic? Also, where should one draw the line on whether the topic differs enough from a previous thread to warrant a new one? Perhaps this should be a new thread? Oh wait, I am quite sure one must already exist! Where do I find that? Lastly, I wanted to express my appreciation for those who are good at posting on this site. I also want to express appreciation for those who are not good. Your work goes a long way to make the work of those who are good possible!
  11. Slower, shorter, lighter and physically weaker than the blockers double-teaming him, Tasker used his mind and his will to beat them cleanly, essentially every time. He blocked kicks with regularity, or at least that's how I remember it. These days, "coverage specialists" are pretty common, and more valued all the time. They had to change a rule or two to reign him in. Think about that. Isn't it time Steve Tasker gets inducted into the Hall of Fame? Is anyone who matters actively lobbying for him these days? Any thoughts or memories to share about plays he made? I can think of a few beauties covering punts, including a delightful shoe-string tackle of Dion Sanders in his prime. Pretty sure Sanders lost yards on the return.
  12. Thanks for this video. There aren't too many Bills highlights better than OJ highlights.
  13. I'd say the evidence supports OJ Simpson's claim to this distinction, beyond a reasonable doubt. Does anyone else even belong in the discussion?
