The only way I forgive Beane for this awful job avoiding taking WRs is if he is about to get Aiyuk and that’s the reason

It really is fascinating. We started picking back up/rotational players in rd 3, and it could be argued WR is our thinnest position on the team. It really puts a lot of pressure on Coleman to be our starting X with his backup being Mack Hollins. We kind of missed out on that tier 2 of X’s in Baker and Walker. I expect we will wind up with a Tier 3 guy like Rice, Flournoy, Means, Johnson at some point but who knows.

    Yeah, but who cares?

The Bills typically don't re-sign running backs to second contracts anyway (nor should they). It's not smart business. Running backs are "turn and burn". Even if he was 22, you still probably aren't re-signing him to a second contract.

If he has a productive 4-year career for the Bills as a backup to Cook, it's a good use of a late 4th round pick.

If he does I agree. Guess we will see. 25 and 26 are usually prime years for running backs so hopefully we get his best right away.

And that is a bit my overall take on this Bills draft so far. It has felt, more than any other Beane draft I have to say, like a draft for need. I think by most consensus the three spots they have attacked here on day 2 were the three spots on the roster that needed some help. They can talk about following the board and pursuing value and I'm sure they did but this looks and feels like it was driven somewhat by being in a tight cap spot and having some positions where they simply had to restock having let vets leave the building, their two starting receivers, their two starting safeties and both of their rotational DTs from the past two seasons are gone. And lo and behold they are the first three spots that they draft for. Not a disaster of a day 2 but I am underwhelmed overall.

Underwhelmed is the right word. I like Keon, but feel more than most of the receivers he needs more development. The talent is there but he is very young thus inconsistent. That we left day 1 and 2 with him being the only offensive help for Josh I feel is putting too much on him and eventually Josh to pick up the slack.

While I like Bishop and even Carter as players in a vacuum - and Bishop likely will be very good in our defense - I think adding more talent at WR, OL or even RB would have made me feel better about the teams support of Josh. I’m sure we will add more offensive players on day 3 but until then underwhelmed is the right word.

Great strategy Beane. Use a 3rd round pick on a rotational DT, rather than go WR.  Someone might want to remind Brandon that Diggs & Davis are no longer on the roster?

Unfortunately, I think they think Samuel and Coleman are the Diggs and Davis replacements and anyone else would just be depth (though we just picked a depth DT). Even if that is the case, we should want better depth than Justin Shorter 🤢, Mack Hollins, and Andy Isaballa

“The Buffalo Bills open Round 2 with the 33rd selection and I’m told they are considering two receivers - Adonai Mitchell and Keon Coleman. The team will entertain offers to move down, as other franchises have been calling with the hopes of trading up for Cooper DeJean, Kool-Aid McKinstry or Jer'Zhan Newton. I’m told the Bills have at least two additional receivers highly rated on their board after Mitchell and Coleman and would be comfortable trading down for the right offer.”

And fwiw Charlie Campbell is saying he is hearing McConkey and Coleman for the Bills

Potential trade downs from 33 with equivalent Rich Hill chart value (like the 2 previous moves)

    33 + 128 to Washington for 36 + 100

    33 + 200 to Carolina (lol) for 39  + 101

    33 to Washington for 40 + 100

    33 + 163 to Green Bay for 41 + 88

    33 + 163 to Houston for 42 + 86

    33 + 144 to Atlanta for 43 + 79

(didn't double check what Buffalo already traded away... tired!)

Washington makes the most sense. They can take spend the night deciding the best OT left and take him at 33. Though I think it was Russini that said the Texans were aggressively trying to trade up too.
