The End of the Nathan Peterman Era...
Billsfan1972 replied to KingRex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Geez passing on what is a very good podcast and someone I enjoy who is like it or not fairly prominent in the industry. But of course Bills fans know better and told us so when Peterman was announced the starter. Don't ever have a contrary view to a Bills fan....... -

Yes listening again...... Having fun about the 4 way tie-breaker (and Cleveland being the reason Buffalo is in according to them) and barely beating Fales...... About 10:30 minutes in, but you hate him. I like him, a little too Boston-centric but he is a FAN......... Oh and also considered Peterman's qb/performance as the worst of the year (maybe all time)....... -

And remember 40% here still wanted Peterman right back in vs. KC..... Think there was a poll somewhere. As stated I think McDermott and certainly Dennison wanted him back in, but fortunately the performance was so atrocious that they had no choice at all (though waited 'til Wednesday to announce it)...... Just listening to Bill Simmons call the Bills one of the worst playoff teams ever and pointing out all the luck they had during the season...... I know everyone hates him...... -

And Joe Webb's 34 yard hail mary to Thompson all part of his plan...... Maybe the two biggest plays of the year were for me..... The fifth Peterman Int, because McDermott wanted so badly to be right, he kept trotting him back out there after each and every Int and would have the second half. The Peterman concussion, because win or lose that game (and a loss would have knocked them out of the playoffs) he wanted to see the Peterman experiment through and would have started him vs. Miami explaining that you can't assess a qb playing in a snowstorm. A genius I tell you..... -

5 Ints and almost a sixth sold the story all on it's own. He provided video proof. BTW he even gave Peterman credit for engineering a scoring drive that was two handoffs to McCoy and 75 yards..... -

My my....... Peterman for MVP......... Retelling??????? You got to be kidding........ Read these two articles and watch the videos embedded and get back to us..... http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/11/nfl-bills-nathan-peterman-stats-tyrod-taylor-chargers-interceptions My favorite article.... http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/11/nfl-bills-sean-mcdermott-nathan-peterman-tyrod-taylor Another lamenting the Peterman concussion, or he'd be leading the Bills into Jacksonville...... -

Priceless!!!! Also did any leader on the Defense get called out during those games and get benched???? -

Oh you mean 3 and outs where 8 are in the box on first down and Shady goes for -2, then another run setting up 3rd & 9????? No team is prepared for that.... -

And everyone who predicted big things from Peterman that first game were rationalizing as McDermott did after. Heck wasn't until Wednesday that he finally reinstated Tyrod. And who knows what happens if Peterman wasn't concussed vs. Indy..... Would Peterman have continued the final 3 weeks? http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/11/nfl-bills-nathan-peterman-stats-tyrod-taylor-chargers-interceptions My favorite article.... http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/11/nfl-bills-sean-mcdermott-nathan-peterman-tyrod-taylor -
Enough's enough - This team went 9-7......
Billsfan1972 replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I said he did not put up the #'s I expected, however was part of a dynamic offense and drew #1 coverage and double teams. Proof will be in the contract he signs..... BTW I also predicted 9-7 would make the playoffs and that the Bills at 5-5 needed 4 wins and expected them vs Indy & Miami x 2...... That is why I was so upset about Peterman and the LAC game...... So yes I was right...... Go find the posts if so inclined....... -

I expected him to have a big year, but never gave #'s. He is defended as a #1 receiver and will see the contract he signs. Oh and Tyrod and the offense missed him..... Try again. -

And there is no way I'd have Peterman as the starter for 2018, which here on the board and elsewhere seems to be a consensus...... -

7-9 last year with an OT loss to Miami week 16 and sitting starters (including Taylor week 17)........ I have too agreed that Rex particularly on defense was a disaster, specifically wrt to discipline and organization (said this earlier in the thread)..... They gutted the offense and we have seen statistically the results. I have too railed since August/September as to the play calling and Dennison and will continue to. Again look at Shady's #'s thanks to Dennison's schemes & play calling. They are in the playoffs, looking forward to Sunday as it is a winnable game as I mentioned in November when they named Peterman as the starter and I was apoplectic (oh and btw right) pointing out that as the 6th seen they opponent would be Jax (oops sorry right again). I also went on about the OT punt vs. Indy and McDermott explaining that a tie was better then a loss....... Oops right again, a tie and Bills would not have made the playoffs. Oh and Matthews the equal or better as a replacement for Watkins....... Yep where are those posters? Boy I hate being right...... There is a long thread last week that Tyrod has played his last regular season game as a Bill. I highly doubt we are signing any top-tier QB, so yes I'm assuming that McDermott & Dennison, who pushed the Peterman agenda (remember "I made thge right decision, just the wrong result) want him to at least start next year. -

I.e. Dareus was a star in 2014-15 but not now????? Gilmour, Darby, Watkins, Woods, Goodwin????? Not trying to be an ass, just saying that this team is/was not terrible and as a fan expect them to improve annually and going from .500 to 9-7 is 1 win....... Yes I'm a fan, but still not 100% sure about the coaching staff...... As stated, I thought they were a playoff team in preseason, defended Tyrod and really got upset at the preseason trades and the FO/coaching staff pretending we were such a bad team. Will be interesting in the offseason if they try and push forward with Peterman as the starter and TBD's buy in tp that scenario...... -

And that is what I have said too over & over. What I disagree with is the coaching. I think McDermott has been lousy in game, the second halves often difficult to watch, Tyrod hasn't been helped, Shady has been tackled more for losses then any RB in the NFL, because teams know the call and some decisions have been out and out wrong. I however certainly think they can beat Jacksonville Sunday, just still want to see more from the coach and front office. -

Again I was posting an interesting fact. The tie-breaker that got the Bills in was Strength of Schedule. If I'm correct 4 teams were tied..... 1. Head to head (didn't all play each other so moot). 2. Conference (8-4 Tenn, 7-5 Balt & Buff, 6-6 LAC). 3. SOS (Buffalo was better then the other three all of whom played Cleveland). So yes Cleveland sunk Baltimore & would have too Tenn & LAC....... -
Enough's enough - This team went 9-7......
Billsfan1972 replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Interesting stat is that the Bills had the 12th easiest schedule, but Baltimore, Tennessee and LAC all were easier, and that was the second tie-breaker. A big thank you to Cleveland for being so bad and NYJ for not being as bad...... -
Enough's enough - This team went 9-7......
Billsfan1972 replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Geez, which is exactly what I am saying. I do think the team would have been much better as it was constructed in the preseason. I do however applaud the Benjamin trade and trying to improve the offense. -
Enough's enough - This team went 9-7......
Billsfan1972 replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And I do...... Just missing the point as you drink the Koolaid...... I've explained it before and will no longer rehash it. Just not buying the coaching yet........ The good news is I thing Jax is a fraud and hope for a win. -
Enough's enough - This team went 9-7......
Billsfan1972 replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And I agree 100%....... I've been glued to the TV (or at the games) since 1972. Doubt I've missed more then a dozen (travel, trips) over that time, so yes I am a diehard. -
Enough's enough - This team went 9-7......
Billsfan1972 replied to Billsfan1972's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And I am a fan....... But I also look at this team without rose-coloured glasses...... I've said it if not a FAN, this team is hard to watch. They are hanging on for dear life almost every win and come the second half they lose almost everytime on halftime adjustments. They should have kicked Miami's butts twice, thoroughly outplayed KC too, yet hung on for dear life. Jauron ball kills me and the inability to throw for 300 (though they seem up for the challenge the first half at times). So you think this team is better the the prior 3 years? I will say they are more disciplined and for a change getting some breaks. Y^es I'm excited, but TBD and the pom pom waving does make me smirk. -
And yes the 18 year curse was lifted. The Bills won the tie-breakers and we're in the playoffs with the best possible first round opponent (something I predicted btw). The point is (and I keep repeating) is that this is pretty much the same records as 2014-2016, so quit thinking this coaching staff & HO turned water into wine. What it did do was create such low expectations that some consider it a miracle. What was miraculous was winning 6 games where the opposition had the ball at the end of the game with a chance to win & the Bills winning each and every time. I am as excited as anyone that they are in the playoffs and planning my Sunday, but I am not getting ahead of myself and anointing this coaching staff as an all time great. However I am a fan and don't get stuck on the minutiae wrt to drafts, schemes and philosophy. It is quite simple for us fans. If a team is 8-8 for 3 seasons in a row, you look at it and say 2 more wins and you're in the playoffs. I look at the skill positions and how they are utilized (and yes was pissed at Watkins, the trade and not targeting him enough). I thought better coaching and tweaks to properly utilize Taylor and we'd see a huge improvement. On the defensive side, it did not take much to see that they were undisciplined, took way too many penalties, and disorganized under Rex, which could be fixed easily to the point they would be competent. So as said I will be here and cheering Sunday & hopefully beyond & will leave shortly thereafter while you argue about the draft, personnel moves & free agency. I will return when Sammy signs and when a decision is made on Tyrod. Again would we fans be so excited if they went 8-8, or 8-7-1 (as McDermott tried vs. Indy) and no playoffs. It is the Playoffs that has created this euphoria, not a record that matches those the prior 3 years...... Flame away!!!!!

McDermott has definitely done some good things. No arguments there. His game day coaching however has been not so great (and in many cases awful). Again this team was in and around .500 for the past three years. This was only a 4-12 team when you read between the lines as to what the HO & coach said, which was denigrating the prior regime. And again look at the results. Two wins vs. teams with winning records (and both on the road). Wins vs. teams that had 5, 5, 6, 6, 6 & 4 wins...... Granted no games vs. Cleveland. Losses 2XNE, Cin, NO, Car, LAC & NYJ. So end of the year they played 7 games vs. teams over .500 and ended up 2-5. Important thing was that strength of schedule was better then Baltimore's and thus the playoffs...... Again cup half empty or half full......
