Are Ryan O'halloran and Sean McDermott one in the same ?

I read one of those Free Agent sites that guesstimate Gabe Davis getting a 4yr 52M contract, it won't come from Buffalo. Any other free agent WR'S worth their weight in spam will see similar sticker price. Diggs appeared to regress the second half of the season, whether that was injury or Brady's play calling I have no idea. Davis needs to be replaced for cheap and Diggs will be gone in 2-3 years so a guy that has speed, can track the long ball and catch it is very much a need on this team.

Safety - It looks like Hyde will probably retire and it wouldn't shock me to see Poyer go as well. If they don't re-sign Rapp they may need two new Safeties unless you want to rely on Hamlin or Cam Lewis to start. I'd go Safety in round#2.

DT - Is Oliver the only DT under contract ? ... Phillips, Ford, Joseph and Settle almost certainly gone and Daquan Jones may be too expensive to re-sign. I'd address this need in round #3.

Hamlin is not the answer at safety. Tbh, the only reason he will make the team next year is because if the lack of talent we have on defense. He isn’t even a solid ST player. We need at least one new safety via FA and one via the draft. And to be fair, I trust McD and Beane can find the right guy to fit our defense. Let’s not forget Poyer wasn’t a big name or star until he came to Buffalo.

No, but I agree with you that we should have been thinking TD at the end instead of FG.  I would have liked it if they had treated that last set of downs as four-down territory (unless something went wrong and set us up for 4th-and-too-long of course).

I honestly think we would gone for it on 4th if it was 4th and 4 or less. That’s an issue with getting Josh’s mind right that we have an extra play to get the first. Take what they give you.

Josh has to play a perfect game for the team to have a chance in the playoffs. Even then it may not be enough. He's going to have to find a way to be even better.

I mean if you look at most teams this deep in the playoffs, they all have to play perfect games

  4. I was actually thinking about this today. You need to cage your players brains on what strategy to execute. I completely agree with this assessment and really believed we would have won the game on a TD if he threw to Diggs, gets the first at that point.

  5. I feel really disappointed. But I’m not mad because A) the refs didn’t screw us. I thought it was a well called game outside that one DPI on Williams B) there wasn’t one player or decision by coaches that absolutely torpedoed us.

We just got beat. Our best player didn’t make a play when we needed it most. And it sucks, but I’d rather it be because Josh didn’t make the play instead of some fluky play or something like 13 seconds.

We just gave Bass a big extension this offseason. At the time it seemed like a no brainer. He was so good before this season. Such a shame.

How screwed are we with the dead cap on his deal for 2024?

Not saying we shouldn't give him another shot. Just wondering if cutting him is even a realistic option if it comes to that.

3 misses in 2 playoff games, after a rough regular season, is hard to accept.

Regardless of the cap hit, if he struggles in camp you can’t go into the season with him. I have a feeling he will not be starting for us week 1. I think we are gonna hope he gets better in the off-season, he won’t, and we will sign a cheap guy who was just cut by another team right before the season starts.

Yesterday, after watching the block and the shank, and then also thinking back to the misses vs the Giants and Eagles earlier in the season, my knee jerk reaction was that Bass seriously needed to be replaced, maybe as soon as this week.  But, for the most part, this is another case where perception does not equal reality; at least as far as how his performance this season stacks up against his historical averages.  He's having a slightly down year, but if you look at his percentages they are not far off his career averages.  And this season is actually tied with his best on 50+ yard attempts (4/6).  One thing bringing his overall FG% down is the lack of attempts from 20-29 yards, which is really due to us being such a superb red zone team.  In 2021, his career year at 87%, he hit 15/15 inside 30 yards.  This year he's only attempted four field goals in this range (4/4). https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BassTy00.htm

Still, yes, he does "look" shakier, but maybe that's a bit of projection on our part due to recency bias.

I think if you look at times where we chose to punt over kicking a FG, to me that shows lack of confidence in bass. Bass has also had some brutal misses this year.

his numbers are bad, his actual kicking looks bad, and he doesn’t have the confidence from his teammates anymore. Gotta get rid of him

Bass went 1/4 on FGs in the postseason. Should we bring in some competition?

I think we need to draft a kicker. Bass needs to go. I don’t think he will mentally recover from this.

Just dismiss our generational QB as someone who will Never get us over the hump. What does it matter that KC shut down our wide receivers all night forcing runs and dump offs.  When he had a few shots down the field, 3 drops on perfect throws( 2 Sherfield, 1Diggs) Does it matter that Mahomes would have had 4 straight TD drives if they didn’t fumble through the End Zone. Does it matter he led us in rushing, 2 TDs himself. The fact that we were in a position to win, being outmanned is only because of the QB. It’s silly comments like yours that  make this board laughable. He got jostled by Dawkins pushed into him on the play you wanted him to check down to Diggs, or else Shakir has an easy TD. I know you’re frustrated, but Josh is the only reason the fans aren’t wearing bags over their heads.

I think my comment is pretty fair. The Shakir pass was obviously not a sure thing and Josh did get pushed from behind. I think the motion with Diggs made it obvious he should have been the go-to guy cause he was wide open from the snap. Take the sure play.

How hard is this? If he hadn't been hit, it's a TD.  He also hit Diggs in the hands on a deep ball that Diggs dropped.

The point the guy is trying to make is do we really want Mahomes having the ball with 1:55 and two timeouts to drive for a TD on our defense that was gashed regularly tonight?

If Khalil was by himself and it was an easy throw I’d take the Td. But he wasn’t. And josh didn’t have a clean pocket. He should have felt that pressure and thrown it to Diggs. Yeah we probably don’t get a TD on that play. But, we move the chains, kill clock / KC TOs, and place ourselves in a great spot to score a TD. Worst case scenario we take an easier FG when only about 1:00 minute remains on the clock and KC is out of TOs.

The smart play was to Diggs IMO. That’s why Brady was so good, he always took the smart, high percentage plays having SA to the follow-on implications.

McDermott should be let go but he will get another year because he can sit back and say my defense was too decimated by injury.

I don't see anything changing for this team and many other teams in AFC will be better next year.  Its not going to get any easier.

Sad thing is next year the defense is gonna be decimated by age and the effects of the salary cap. It’s scary to think we can potentially have Hamlin and Cam Lewis starting at safety next year.

On a positive note Shakir looked awesome! His hands were simply amazing tonight! The young man looked like a star. The future is bright for him. Diggs looked like just a guy tonight, the second half of this year really.

Agree on Shakir. Kinda reminding me of victor Cruz in his prime but better.

It sucks Diggs has such a big dead cap hit next year because i think at this point he is done. I would love to cut him or trade him but obviously the financial ramifications don’t allow for it.  His hands just aren’t trustworthy and he isn’t elite anymore. He’s a middling number 1 WR.

Cook dropped a TD as well. Crucial. The non pass to Diggs at the end was the worst one. Get a new set of downs, milk the clock and an excellent opportunity to score. I don’t get why Josh went for a TD there. Too much time left on the clock. :(

Cook dropped TD we ended up getting a TD anyways so I’ll discount that.

but yes, josh taking that crosser gets the first, eats up clock or forces KC to take a TO, and puts us in a great position to get a TD.

Josh played extremely well, but that singular play stands out to me as the blemish on his night tonight

This game is on McDermott and special teams. I don’t know what more to say to Josh but your receivers let you down including your HIM. For as much as Diggs complains he doesn’t produce.

Josh missed the wide open crosser to Diggs on 2nd and 9 on the last drive. If he hits that, I think we end up winning that game. Other than that, Josh was elite tonight

  15. Diggs dropping that bomb. We end of punting in that drive. No points scored. We probably (maybe?) get at least three there if caught.

This is the one that kills me the most. Josh missing the crossing route to Diggs there on the last drive on 2nd and 9. If caught, Diggs definitely gets a first and probably goes down around the 10. It’s plays like these that made a Brady great cause he would see it, take the easy, high percentage, throw and keep the chains moving and the clock ticking. I honestly think at this point Josh will never get us over the hump because of either his inability to see plays like that or unwillingness to take the easy dump off even at crunch time.

Bass missing the FG at the end. Statistically Bass has been one of the worst kickers this season. I’ve been harping about it since the beginning of December. McD simply never trusted him the second half of the season. Last week was a giant flashing sign saying “don’t trust bass!” that McD didn’t heed. Even his XPs tonight were barely eeking in between the uprights. Now I understand if we make that FG, the chiefs still have a lot of time and two TOs, but missing it guaranteed we would lose.
