Hughes makes some mistakes, but he, at many times this year, was the best defensive player on the field for the Bills and his personal foul penalties were down by the end of the year. His personal foul penalties when he got them were errors in enthusiasm. Burfict is a DIRTY Player and he doesn't get it that he hurts his team with his dirty play. Burfict is a big problem.

Jerry doesn't seem to get that his dumb personal fouls hurt his team either. Yes Jerry was one of our best defensive players this year, but in order to be THE leader (which I think he is developing into) he needs to cut the personal fouls. No need to bump tannehil four yards out of bounds.

  2. If Vontaze Burfict becomes available due to his issues, should the Bills gamble on him? Or do you see him going crazy with the freedom Rex gives his players and in turn, doing more harm than good. He is clearly a great player and I think he is worth the risk. Get him, at probably a low cost high reward, and draft a game changing safety.

  3. I know we are all very disappointed with how the season turned out, but in looking at the teams for the last two years, I wonder who would win. The offense is clearly much improved while the defense regressed. I think despite the record, we are a actually a better team this year. Last year we should have never won the Detroit, Minnesota, or NE game, allowing us to finish at 7-9 This year we probably shouldn't have won Tennessee.

I also think our defense was overrated last year. Very good yes, but not dominant like the Broncos this year. It had clear issues that were shown in a few games. I would rather have a potent offense than good defense at this point. Hope we can have both next year!

  4. It's very disheartening that a defense, which DW built so well to the 4-3 scheme is going to go to waste in Rex's scheme. The best players on the defense (who once were 94,99,95,53,53) are now 30,28,24,55. Will DW now have to build around that secondary and just get roles players in the other positions to replace them? ORRR can we make it work? Now I am not really knowledgeable in defenses, but if he were to bring in a true 4-3 DC (which he wont), is there no way to have the base D set as a 4-3, with mixing in Rex's exotic looks/blitzes?

No word yet on whether Rob Ryan is assisting the Bills in any official capacity. But he left the practice field... http://espn.go.com/espn/now?nowId=21-0466310072469823228-4

Another view of Rob Ryan, decked out from head to toe in Bills gear walking off the practice field this afternoon.

My god. That gut is out of control

  6. why do they tackle like that? It seems like our guys get hurt more often when they just try and crash into other players full speed. Hit him and wrap him up. Hope he is ok.

He ALWAYS tackles like that. I can recall at least two other times that he dove with his shoulder and hurt himself. He also has a knack for diving with his shoulder and missing tackles (ie. the TD yesterday)

  7. If I were the Pats, I would run a very high-tempo offense because it seems that we cannot seem to get lined-up on defense due to poor communication. I'm sure BB and TB will exploit this unfortunately...the same goes for not getting the calls in on offense. Good thing is, we have a full week to prepare for that!

    Go Bills!

  8. From the Buffalo News:

Veteran Corey Graham made the transition from cornerback to safety this year. Graham had the luxury of preparing for the switch through an entire training camp, but is ready to give McKelvin a crash course if necessary.

“It’ll work. Especially in this defense, you’re going to be doing a lot of covering anyway, so I’m pretty sure the more cover guys you have out there, the better,” Graham said. “He’s a pretty smart guy. He picks up things well. He knows the defense, so I’m not too worried about that aspect of it.”

    Oh no...we are screwed...

  9. I don't agree. His stats are artificially inflated because his team is most often losing by a lot and the other team's defense is in prevent and giving the receivers a cushion. He's not terrible but he's not good either. If we are a good team then we stop him on the final drive and we didn't. I'm embarrassed

Exactly. He's a top 10 statistical qb this year because of the garbage time stats.

EJ will be the scapegoat, but really, when the Defense had the opportunity to step up and seal the game, they let the Jags drive 84 yards for the game winning TD. Yes, they did a bunch of good things to get it there, but when most needed, they wilted. Not sure if that's on the Coaches, or players, or both, but in the end, this is just not a very good defense. And that is why the team is 3-4. We all knew the Defense had to carry this team, so when they don't, wins—no matter who is your QB—will be hard to get.

Rashad Jennings TD, Danny Amendola catch... big time players make big time plays in big time situations. Our defense can play great all day (which they have not done), and if they cannot make the big play when needed most, then they are not dominant/elite.
