did you forget that Hines had 2 KR TD's in the same game?  He has more pure speed (or had) than Harty who is more of a quickness in small spaces type

hes coming off brutal injury at a position that ages like milk.... KR is basically a non-existent position starting this year (had already been trending that way).  im not even saying retain harty at all cost, but i am saying i want nothing to do with hines and his contract, and am open to bradys input on deonte in HIS offense, as we saw what dorsey did to our entire offense. dude rubber band castrated josh allen and j-cook, took all of 1 week to change what we saw months of

This is a good point and further points to the ridiculousness of going WR in 2 or all 3 of the first picks - like many are doing here.

My focus has been on securing a starting WR in Round 1 and addressing the starting and rotational holes we have elsewhere this season.

But it goes deeper than just this year. As you pointed out, past this season - we only have Connor McGovern and O'Cyrus Torrence under contract.

While i'd expect an extension for Dion Dawkins, we'll need a new Center and while Spencer Brown was better last season, I'm not sure I'm ready to sign him up for an extension immediately. And behind Dawkins and Brown, we just have Ryan Van Demark, Tommy Doyle (who was on IR all last season and will be a FA himself next year).

So long story short, on top of starting holes at DE, DT (and all rotating DT's as Oliver is the only one under contract), S (possibly two if we also move on from Poyer) - we also need to think about the O-Line for this season and especially next.

We cannot afford to double down on WR in the first two Rounds and probably not even in Round 3. If we go WR Round 1 as expected, Round 4 should be the earliest we think of a double dip.

And there's photos of Josh and his dad decked out in Patriots jerseys at a Pats game.

That all goes out the window when it becomes your job.

Would just like to clarify for my own sanity, they were Brady*** jerseys. Seemingly the same thing except Josh is a QB born in '96.

Very forgivable, and i might be concerned about a QB his age growing up NOT idolizing the man.  He has atoned for these sins, VIVA LA JOSH!!

I don’t think he’ll be back next season.  Too much cap benefit to moving on especially if they retain Hines after a contract restructure.

I do believe Beane will draft a 2nd WR in the 5th (we have 2 5th rd picks), but if they like Shorter and release Harty maybe they sign a cheap vet instead.

harty was easy whipping bou this year, but flat out give me him over freakin Hines all day..... especially if they get input from Brady that he thinks he can scheme him. dude was completely invisible with Dorksey, we saw a pulse from him after the change. not saying hes guaranteed dynamic, but would give him 2nd chance if brady gives approval nod

Thanks for reminding me of all of this.

I probably blocked it out because Baker Mayfield is a supreme douche.

Had all of this happened to a decent person, I’d probably have some sympathy.

But Mayfield has been nothing but an ass.hole since college.

And he’s not a very good quarterback.

I dont disagree, but time has proven in almost all cases you want this in your QB. obv there are exceptions, hey we got lucky with a labrador/dragon hybrid QB, even if hed wound up in MIA somehow i think Josh would still be one of my fav players..... but hes an exception certainly not the rule. i like Josh's leadership style, but think he could benefit from putting some a-hole in his game too. we obv dont see him in the lockerroom, and its very possible he gets on guys in there.

i think the 100% positive leadership only leaves some results on the table. 80/20 split of upbeat vs a-hole ratio is the sweetspot.

nobody likes 100% a-hole, and eventually they gut tuned out.

100% nice guy can lead, but theres no fear of that personality type.

now take for example a close-close friend. not the one that always tells you what you want to hear, but the type of friend who will call you out when you're wrong.... they're your best friend and always upbeat and pulling for you, but when you are doing something to mess up your life, will pull you aside and say WTF ARE YOU DOING?!?!

the 80% is why you love spending time with them, and who you know them as. so when they get on your ass, it really stands out, you know they must be right, and youre going to do what you need to do to get them back to your fav labrador mode.

i dont want this being spun as "josh isnt a good leader", just with the minimal access we have to them, im hypothesizing he can still pull that extra 5-10% outta his guys beyond what him and coaches are now

Tbh he was my favorite QB prospect in that draft class. Love his attitude and he’s a David vs. Goliath type to me. Hope his next set of commercials he is living in the pirate ship.

TBH that last season in CLE his body was banged TF upppppppp. i thoiught they did him a dirty. one of my things i wonder is, he plays exceptionally well with the chip on his shoulder..... if he gets a 30m/yr x X-years contract, is that chip going to fall off, or will he keep grinding and putting in the work he did this year. i think he will, but its also a fair question IMO

I played High School basketball and we would practice at the same time that wrestling practice was going on.  I used to be amazed at the amount of cardio that they would do. All of the running and jump roping, etc. It seemed endless.   We did have a phenomenal wrestling program though.  Basketball?  Not so much... lol   ~Niagara Wheatfield

Niagara Wheatfield was a beast program in early to mid 2000s.  Guessing it still is, but not sure.

It's the sport that rewards hard work more than others, talent Def involved but it's a diff playing field than other sports IMO

Cool how a hard working room can pass down through generations, obviously coaching matters, but it was always the juniors seniors picking up and really carrying the torch, and passing it down. Feels like a 20-30year+ old flame at the best places

It sucks doesn't it?  I liked him a ton too and it's kind of a kick in the nuts he turned out to be this way.  But he is human, and was a pro athlete, which means we kind of build an image of what we think they are.

Sometimes we are right ( see Payton Manning, Barry Sanders etal.) And sometimes we are wrong  like with Favre.

i have some news for you lol

  8. Is there a good resource to find what % of snaps a WR took on outside vs slot?  Im specifically looking at McConkey, but would love to have a place to find this more easily in general.... fwiw mck sounds like a slot guy, but just curious

I watched the First Draft video and came away thinking Brian Thomas would be a perfect fit in this offense and is the realistic guy we should target.

I read through the page 1 comments and everyone's talking about other WRs, but I want to know where Thomas projects in round 1.

Beane gives up draft assets every single year and with 10 draft picks he's going to have more assets to play with than ever.

which draft video? id like a good round 1 summary with some depth by smart commentators if you have one

A couple nice reps from Legette here:

wish legette would catch with his hands more... the last video he does and its pretty, but the 2 before he catches it with his gut, even the one he jumps to catch..... team is going to have to scrub that from his game. would be a little worried it leads to early drops for him

The pop megastar has been a financial boon for the NFL and for the Kansas City Chiefs in the wake of her romance with star tight end Travis Kelce, according to a new report.

Front Office Sports recently reported that Swift has created a “brand value” of $331.5 million for the Chiefs and the NFL, citing data from Apex Marketing Group

Guess ill have to patiently wait for Mahomes to get caught cheating on Brittany with an SS Prison Guard.... thennnnnnnn can we get a SB appearance????

Day 1 of practices just concluded.

So far the biggest winners I've seen brought up a lot are WR Ricky Pearsall, DE Marshall Kneeland, and C Jackson Powers-Johnson.

by far my fav week on twitter. love getting to see the 1 on 1 drills, especially the fatties.  without all-22, there is just so dambbbb much going on in the trenches that its almost easy to take for granted what these guys do.  taking out all the extra noise around them and just viewing it as a matchup gives perspective into just how many battles are going on all game, and we miss most of it

Probably doesn't have the speed you're looking for, but might be worth keeping an eye on Ed McCaffrey's son/Christian McCaffrey's brother, Luke. He's at the Senior Bowl this week. Played QB for Nebraska before transferring to Rice to play WR where he kinda blew up the last couple years. I also believe he's statistically the best in the class in terms of making contested catches. Needs to learn how to strap his helmet though lol; never seen someone lose their helmet so much.

siiiick, didnt know there was another one. as a kid we all thought Ed M was cool from SB, NFL Blitz, and how freaking jacked he was on trading cards.... turns out his spunk was a 99 too lol

    wheres Luke projected to go??

I can see them going WR saftey.  Im not sure about either guy.  I would rather have the guys that went later.  Worthy, Mitchell, Coleman even Polk before Leggett.  Possibly losing Hyde, Poyer and Rapp I think saftey is a big need.  An under sized guy from a bad defense seems like a stretch for him to be ready out of the gate.

I have yet to see anyone say this. Out of curiosity what do you like better about Colemans game then Leggett? They seem similar'ish types, but I have Coleman a tier lower at basically everything they do, just my opinion of course

    24. Dallas Cowboys – Troy Franklin – Wide Receiver, Oregon

The Cowboys offense is very CeeDee Lamb centric. Brandin Cooks is past his best, Michael Gallup is inconsistent and Jalen Tolbert hasn’t quite broken through despite flashes. They need another legit target outside and Franklin has the vertical speed to open things up and allow for Lamb to work the middle of the field.

F***. I been thinking this revenge pick from last draft, was going to happen, and hate to see it even in early writing. This feels around where hes going. Think he even pushes up boards as we get closer, hope we have a plan in place to leap frog.

Speed needs to be the focus on both sides of the ball. No more plodders

who is a plodder on the defense, the guys weve drafted have been geared towards being smaller/quick. the only guys that didnt have speed were the older guys that have been around a while. poyer, hyde and Tre. its time to move on for sure, but i cant criticize beane for having these guys around this year. hyde was always gunna be here, poyer just kinda worked out on team friendly deal, and we needed to see what tre had after eating that bullet last year

Did coaching drop a deep shot that hit a receiver in the hands? Did coaching get manhandled back into the QB in the clutch? Did coaching get scorched by a 34 yo tight end in single coverage? Was coaching incapable of winning a pass rush battle all game?

Did coaching drop a deep shot that hit a receiver in the hands? so diggs acquisition was bad because of this play, diggs is a negative on BBs resume?  Sherfields first drop, his arm was pinned down. second one was a tough play he shouldve came down with but not a gimme.  each year Beane has kind of picked one position group to focus mainly on, last year was OL and it paid major dividendes, with lots of meat on the bone still

Did coaching get manhandled back into the QB in the clutch?  One play. Did you watch chris jones yesterday, or any other playoff stretch. the dude is maybe the best disruptor in the league for a long time now

Did coaching get scorched by a 34 yo tight end in single coverage?  yeah kinda. beane has handled the LBer position supremely. Bernard, when nobody on this board or league saw this coming? let tremaine walk, thats balls. milano can cook. spector, dodson, williams all showing major upside. thats 5 quality LB'ers, with 1 all-pro, and another pro bowl caliber.... at a position we only use 2 on the field, thats killer depth, not beanes fault we got gutted there

Was coaching incapable of winning a pass rush battle all game? when its playoff time the last few years it feels few and far between any DL has been able to get to the QB, let alone Mahomes.  Even non-mahomes guys have just been too quick at getting the ball out, neutralizing DL's pass rush.  100% of the reason im not wanting premier draft picks expended there. you acquire these guys with high picks (the kind we cant get) or high dollar FA.

anyone criticizing the von miller deal now is victim of MMQB. hes exactlyu what we needed, its too bad that knee biting turf in Detroit did him in, but again no way of beane knowing hed get hurt. the guy was very healthy 90% of his career, and showed a s*** ton left in the tank in Denver and LA

Here is a fact, you have absolutely no knowledge of the conversations, the level of respect, or how harsh or easy Brady is on Josh. None, zero, zip. To sprout this off as "fact" is reckless and stupid.

Especially with brady being upstairs for our games lol what do we have at all to draw that information on hahaha we've never even seen them within 5 floors of each other

The theory is if you can't create separation against college athletes, it probably won't go very well for you against NFL athletes. Having said that, you can only learn so much from metrics. It's possible that Keon is creating separation but the passes allow DBs to recover and turn it into contested situations. And if you're simply awesome at winning those contested balls, the QB is probably more likely to give you more contested opportunities because he trusts you to go up and get it. Having said that, if you add up the numbers from the last two years, Keon's catch % on contested targets is pretty mediocre too, so at least based on the metrics, you're left with a guy that relies on contested opportunities to make an impact and also isn't particularly great at catching them.

    1 hour ago, Motorin' said:

But of those 14, only 3 of them even had 20+ contested targets; it's all small sample size stuff. Also of those 14, only 6 of them managed to catch 50% or higher the prior season:

the fact that in your chart only 3 had 20+ contested TARGETS, really tells a story..... only 20 targets that aline with someone's strongest skill set, is not enough to depend on. great for redzone, but not a guy that really has any chance at being a #1 WR down the road.

there are plenty of WRs whos best skill set leads to getting separation, these guys see 80-120+ targets for doing this.  jump ball guy is too niche of a skill for my liking in the first round

30 minutes ago, Ga boy said:

Why is it bad to rely on contested targets (re- Keon)?

good question bro.  honestly he disappeared in far too many games for my liking as well.... now if he slides down the board, id be a lot more interested later on
