In a word, "No." The D was designed to stop the run against the best rushing offense in the NFL last year and they did just that. They smothered the ball carrier on most plays right at the line of scrimmage. It's not Washington/Williams yet, but it's moving in that direction.

Listened to Sal for the first time this weekend. What a great addition to WGR. Dope and the Bulldyke are just horrible, but it is usually a deep drop to the other GR personalities - many of whom can't speak in full sentences and routinely search for the proper words to describe their thoughts (a bad shortcoming considering the profession they chose to try and make it in). Sal was articulate and entertaining and made a great point about Charlie Weiss.

Went to the game last night (Thanks eball for the tix). If there were 10,000 there it was generous. It's a shame that the league charges season ticket holders for these sham games. Thought Sully summed it up perfectly in his column today: "The Lions' offensive and defensive starters played four plays each. The Bills' starters were on for seven plays. And the NFL has the nerve to charge full price for these games. It's like showing up for the Philharmonic, then having the middle school orchestra take over a few minutes into the concerto." I think they should at least cut the price and donate all of the unsold tickets to local kid's groups serving the underprivlidged.

You'll have to explain to the young'uns how Fred Taylor and Rob Johnson are connected. Then you'll have to explain the Flutie/Johnson battle. Then you'll have to explain the Flutie benching and loss of job in a meaningless regular season finale. Then you'll have to explain "Homerun Throwback." Nah, it's better left unsaid. Yeah, Taylor's retirement ends it alright.

Scott posted that he is going on WBEN today (didn't say what time) to talk about the parking issue. Maybe he can mention what is happening with the town and the signs, especially because the Pinto man is in your lot now, I'm sure that it would resonate with even casual fans of the team.

I hate to nitpick a thrilling win (which I thoroughly enjoyed watching) by questioning the coaching, but something bothered me last night and it still is now. Should Gailey have put Levi Brown out there for the OT possession? Surely it worked out for the team, but what use was the experience for the Bills QB future? It's hard to see Brown making the final roster. The QBs seem to be set with Fitz, Thigpen and Smith. I think giving Thigpen the chance to drive the team in OT would have been invaluable experience for a guy that will be on your team (making a good buck) for the next few years. Levi will take that experience to BK where, presumably, he will be a better fry cook as a result, but how did it help the Bills' QBs of the regular season?

Just watched the 6 O'Clock news. They showed Hubbards game-tying TD catch - cut to Gailey talking about how preseason or not, the team showed character and it was a win they could build on. Then the announcement of the cuts and Hubbard being let go. It's pretty hard to catch the game tying score (didn't he get the 2-pt conversion, too?) and get yourself cut before the highlights run the next day. I feel bad for Hubbard.(despite his legal troubles)

As someone who knows a thing or two about writing an Op-Ed column, I've written over 600 in the past 11 years, it is important to remember that there are deadlines that writers must adhere to. I'm sure Larry filed that column mid-week, so cut him a little slack. Also, I've had my share that I wish I could have back once they went into print. I think I know enough about Felser's allegiance to the team and the fans to say that he is probably happy to eat a little crow this morning knowing that the team showed that it had a heartbeat last night.

I watched the Bills' feed and Tasker and Bently were saying that the new OT rule only takes effect in the playoffs. They stated that the old rules still apply in pre and regular season play.

I attended the last day of camp last Thursday at SJF. I've been to camp many times over the years and a common sight was Ralph often watching practice from the shade of his golf cart. Was he at camp one day this year? I can't remember the last time he made a public statement. He's just two months shy of 93 and I worry for his health and how that will impact the future of the club. The Vick flack would have brought the Ralph of old down from Detroit to rail at the commissioner. His donation to the HOF would have caused a younger Ralph to soak in the adoration in person instead of just issuing a press release. I think the last time I saw him was when he posed with Dareus after the draft and he really looked as if his age had caught up with him. I guess what I'm asking is does anyone have any insight into his current health and is he still active in the running of the team? If not, who is calling the shots at the top?
