Based upon every key decision he has made since he has been here. The only hope for this pair rests in Beane having a bigger vision and convincing Sean to broaden his horizons.
The brightest QB minds in the NFL all were circling back to one player. Sean McDermott is not in that QB club. He is the one who decided to bring back Tyrod Taylor for another spin because he sold the Pegulas and Russ Brandon on his ability to win now.
All the data suggests drafting a QB early in the first provides the best opportunity for finding a franchise QB.
Any team that decides it can win with other team's scraps and leftovers will find their coach fired.
Rex was Tyrod's first victim. Sean will be the next if he insists on this path.
I don't think this data analytics approach is definitive. I do think there is a threshold where the MPH would be too low to draft. As we get more data we will know more where the minimum MPH should be. For now the best guess is under 54 based upon available data.
Start a Alex Smith thread if you want. I find debating Tyrod's upside as tiring as when people wanted to debate if Ryan Fitzpatrick could take it to another level.
The success of the pairing rests on Beane's ability to have a football vision and sell Sean on it.
I see Sean as another defensive coordinator coach who lacks the ability to see the big picture and is going to try Jauron his way to wins with a bend but don't break defense.
Does Beane have a vision? Can he sell it to Sean?
I eagerly await the Beane press conference.
I am just the vanguard. Once the real NFL games start and the Bills are on their way to another losing season Mahomes mania 2017 will look like child's play from Darnold, Rosen, Allen, etc fans. And I won't be on any of them.
That's the problem with QB rating with no context. If both QB's are asked to carry their team then QB rating could be a fair way to evaluate two different players. But if one QB is hidden by a top running game and throws into good situations then it is not. Tyrod Taylor has to be protected and therefore his value is far lower than Alex Smith. Alex Smith is also near the end of his career and will be replaced next year. If that's what you want for Tyrod then sign me up.
You're assuming that Andy Reid would want to design an offense around Tyrod. Reid would not.
The model I want to follow is the Raiders who took their young QB and just won 12 games with a defense worse than Buffalo.
