  1. Etienne represents the leap in talent you saw when we brought in Diggs this past season. He is that much better than anyone on the roster at running back. This offense is in need of serious balancing and E-T-N would bring that and then some. Najee Harris would be my first choice just because I love his size and power while still running a 4.45 40 but Etienne is very elusive with ridiculous balance. I'm a believer in any back that has back to back 1,600 yard seasons with an 8.0 avg YPC.

With the amount of OGs on the market I think you are seeing league wide where teams prioritize them.  I dont see Buffalo drafting a lineman who they think is only a guard.  Edge, corner, OT, Wr are the premier positions and expect Buffalo to go in one of those directions at 30.  Losing Brown and possibly Mckenzie I think Wr may be higher on the list than the others.

Not with Davis and Hodgins on the roster.

I'm not that far into the draft stuff yet, emotionally draining season. I did a quick 2 round on PFN and selected Travis Etienne (RB, Clemson) at 30 and Ronnie Perkins (EDGE, Oklahoma) at 61.

Brown was our #1 receiver prior to Diggs arrival last season. That jump in talent and production is what Ettiene would represent at the RB position over Singletary and Moss. Moss would end up being the backup or change of pace guy but Ettiene is an absolute weapon out of the backfield and could bring much needed balance to this offense and a reliable outlet for Josh out of the backfield.

Perkins I've seen more than a couple games of his over his career. He's a high effort guy with pretty good bend, great speed. He would probably want to add 10 or 15 pounds at the NFL level if he were to play 4-3 DE like he would in Buffalo but he typically gets good leverage in pass rush over powering much bigger tackles. Fairly patient in the run game and probably a good value at 61.

Jordan Phillips had count them… Two sacks last year after getting that big contract from Arizona exactly why do you miss him

I still don't understand why people hate on Phillips here. Scorned lovers I guess. He played a prominent role in this defense. It improved in every way when they signed him mid season that year. The arguments against guys like him and Shaq don't hold water. They worked in this system, our rank that year proved it. And if you want to bring up what he did in Arizona, what did we do without him? What was our overall rank without him? Who replaced his production this past season? Goes both ways.

  4. We are a team that has play makers on offense and a great secondary. We can not control the line of scrimmage on either side of the ball. Sure, our pass blocking looks great at times. Allegedly our pass rush is good, even though the sack numbers aren't there.

But when teams come out and hit us in the mouth, we fold. When we need to control the tempo of a game, we can't.

I'll never be sold on Edmunds being the physical, smart game changer this defense needs in the middle. Ed is constantly double teamed because we went into the season without a 1 tech and never addressed the need. Last year they had the line fixed after it got abused the beginning half of the season. Then they let both Phillips and Taylor walk. Went out and paid a fortune for more Panthers players that under delivered.

Beane needs to re evaluate his pro scouting department and get into McDermott's ear a little bit. Tired of the cronyism. We need the best player possible at every position. Not the guy you knew from your old job. And now he's talking about being up against the cap? Shouldn't be with the talent level on the defensive side of the ball.

  5. I've watched him every Saturday being a Gators fan. If we want to run an offense like KC, this is a no brainer. He's a better kick returner than Roberts, he can play running back, he can play receiver and he is absolutely electric with the football. He's definitely been the guy on the Gators where you are on the edge of your seat every time he touches the football.

In saying all that, I would be absolutely shocked if he's there at 30. I'm also inclined to think defense is a bigger issue at this point.

  6. Short answer? No. No they are not.

    Long answer?

I don't want to hear about Pro Bowls or draft status or any of that bull####.

Where do teams attack us with the most success? The middle of the field. Where do Edmunds and Oliver play? Middle of the field.

Edmunds will never be good in the middle of the field. While he's fast, he isn't explosive. He still can not diagnose plays. Any motion gets him completely off schedule. He physically does not have the bulk to take on blocks at the line and his height prevents him from getting leverage on 5'9" 200lb running backs. He misses tons of tackles. McDermott's scheme requires a smart, explosive, hard hitting player in the middle of the field and Edmunds ain't it.

And Oliver? What can be said about the supposed "next Aaron Donald?" No really. I don't think I've ever noticed him on the field. He's kind of just there. Don't see him in the backfield, don't see him making tackles in the run game. 11 TFL in two full seasons. He has games without a stat line. Is that really what you expect out of guy drafted high in the 1st round?

I don't want to get into schemes or strategies. I'm not a coach so I'm definitely not getting into that. These are my humble thoughts on the simple stuff.

    Coaching:

We got f*cked. All of our flaws were exposed. It was actually there all season. McDermott and Company will grow from this. A lot to unravel for them. We were supposed to bring the fight to Kansas City. We didn't do that. That was pathetic to see.

    - Stop going for field goals when we're near the goal line.

    - Stop playing scared.

    - Our QB has a mega arm and we proved that we can score in the Red Zone with the elites.

    Josh Allen:

We have to get better protection for him. I don't want to see him taking 20 yard sacks. He's inviting bad losses on the field and major injuries to him. Can't have that.

    - Eliminate "Sugar High Josh." That version of him is forcing stuff and holding on to the ball too long hoping for something to unravel from the receivers.

    - He has to make better reads.

    Offense:

    - We need a true RB1 via the Draft. We don't need a vet. If we want a RB in his prime in free agency (which I don't), I humbly suggest Kenyan Drake or Leonard Fournette. I say no to Todd Gurley because he's washed up.

    - We need a good catching Tight End.

    - We need another WR2 "who could be WR1" via the draft to replace aging Cole Beasley and out going John Brown.

    Defense:

Leslie Frazier might have to leave now. He's way too inconsistent for me.

    - Why was it a struggle to get quick "3 and out" for the majority of the season? When playoff time arrived, that ugly flaw showed its' head.

    - We couldn't get to the opposing QB all season.

    - We can't stop the run. At all. We have our moments with the current roster, but there are not many moments.

    - Need new LB, DB, and 2 pass rushers.

    O-line:

    - Do a better job of picking up the blitz.

    Players on Defense:

Edmunds: Trade him. He has all the looks, but doesn't perform like it.

Milano: Not a fan. He wants $8 million per year? No way. I wouldn't give him that contract. Take reduced pay. If not, he can leave.

Tre White: He's here long term. I'm cool with him.

Josh Norman: Let him go. He's 34 years old when next season is here.

Jerry Hughes: Play out his final season with us or let him go now. He's 33 years old.

    Players on Offense:

    John Brown "Smoke": Cut him.

Devin Singletary: Cut him/trade him. Whatever.

That's off the top of my head. I'm very sure Beane will address all of this. He knows more than all of us here combined. I can't stress the importance of getting RB1 and Tight End for our offense. That would make Josh Allen's passing yards and touchdowns go up, relieve stress from opposing defenses shadowing Stefon Diggs and from Josh Allen having to force the issue.

Opposing teams will have higher difficulty to prep against us.

Patrick Mahomes' Chiefs are here to be reckon with for a long time. Beane addresses most of this in the Summer and we're that much closer to dethroning them. This would suck if we're Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen trying to beat the Detroit Pistons during the late 1980s.

Honestly, a lot of stuff in this post I agree with but what the ***** is that? Get rid of Cole Beasley? Are you nuts?

  8. The talent in the front 7 of this defense is bad. The draft has not been kind to Beane on that side of the ball. Epenesa, Oliver, Edmunds. All 1st round picks. All bad. Addison, Murphy, Butler, no one stepped up out of that free agent group. Hughes isn't as fast as he used to be. In all honesty, at this juncture, I would keep Klein and Milano. That's it. Beane made a terrible choice not to attempt to retain some or all of the defensive free agents this offseason. As a group, they were dominant last year.

Fraizer has been suspect since he's been here. We all know for a fact McDermott took over play calling on that side of the ball for a while in 2018. The gameplan yesterday was atrocious. Sit back and hope for the best doesn't get you to a Super Bowl. And to have it happen a week after totally shutting down the Ravens is just odd.

And then of course, there is the run game. I think we need to consider some new pieces along the offensive line and probably look into a veteran running back.

I just dread this team becoming the McNabb Eagles or the Rodgers Packers where the passing game is great and it gets so close to the peak every year and then we fall short to a more well rounded team.

  9. It's Tryod Taylor all over again. If you can contain him in the pocket, the wheels come off. Greg Roman builds the offense around the talents of the QB. They are a run first team because that is the talent of his QB. Running. Just give it a couple more years, the media won't even remember who Lamar Jackson was.

It feels like a forgone conclusion that he's gonna be in Pittsburgh or GB, but I wouldn't hate having him if he's cheap.

I dunno, we're in the AFC Championship with a young QB, Pittsburgh is going to be a mess of a team while they attempt to replace Ben and while Aaron is certainly playing at a high level, has he ever spoken about how long he's going to play?

I think if JJ really wants to compete for a Super Bowl for the next 5 years, we're one of the teams that's set up to do it.

You don't need to be thaaat smart to make $14M last the rest of your life. The house for mom, the sisters college tuition is cool. But you don't drop 750k on your moms house out of the gate, then drop 250k on a damn Bentley. That is over 10% of the total contract after taxes in those two alone. And he didn't mention his own house/condo in DC, probable chef, clearly hookers, etc.

Dude is going to go broke.

This. But honestly, what do you expect? The US does not teach it's children about building wealth in schools. They'll have you learn history but they'll never teach you how to not repeat it. He spent his money pretty much how most 20 somethings would.

If Belichik thinks Lawrence is that good, he will absolutely find a way to lose that last game to the Jets.  Past time that NFL institutes a draft lottery.

You're out of your mind, Belicheck would never allow a loss like that to tarnish his legacy. He doesn't care about a what if QB situation, he's got two real ones in Tua and Allen to deal with currently.

Sam Darnold with the pats? thats actually a little scary cause I feel NE can Fix him.

I would be a little worried. I just know the Pats are going to be digging for a QB now. They've won games they've had no business winning with absolutely terrible play from the QB position. Darnold will be on the radar for sure, very little risk with the chance for high reward is the Pats kind of move. Even average play this year from the QB position and they'd be in the hunt for East again.

If he's willing to sign as a backup, sure.

Nah, I think he gets a chance to start where ever he goes. He might have to earn it but I think everyone in the NFL is well aware of what an absolute garbage coach Gase is. Look at Tannehill since he left Miami. Look at Miami since they jettisoned Gase. And add Gase into what is already an inept organization in the Jets and I think anyone with a level head will take a flyer on the 3rd overall pick from a couple years ago.

  15. As soon as someone says "Edmunds was a Pro Bowler" I know their opinion is worthless. Winning a popularity contest among fans means absolutely ZERO.

29 years and you can't understand how people want to see arguably the best athlete on the defensive side of the ball moved around in this defense and put in positions to make big plays instead of standing in the middle of the field waiting to see if a running back leaks out of the backfield.

I think the rampant alcoholism amongst Bills fans really prevents some of them from understanding what they are watching.

Preston Brown... a run stuffer in a completely different defense and they couldn’t wait to unload him because of the poor fit and his horrendous coverage abilities. Beautiful reference to exemplify the point of misunderstanding this defense.

edmunds like tj watt..  hmm... comparing a 3-4 olb Elite pass rusher to a prototypical McDermott D mlb.. just don’t understand what if any point is to make here.

these are some optics all right

also point 1 and 2 are both imo incorrect.

The front four almost religiously are traditional 4 down lineman with a few disguise exceptions.

I have seen the pattern of trying to drum up arguments as a contrarian before but is it pathological?

Tremaine Edmunds is a solid starting MLB in the NFL (a pro bowler in fact) and an extremely good Fit in Sean McDermotts defense. Reality has spoken, even if you believe since he is roughly the same weight and height as Calvin Johnson he should play wide receiver... doesn’t mean that’s what he’s good at.
