1. Heard Lee Steinberg talking on the radio today about LA getting a franchise.

He said the NFL will help build the stadium on a site by the Coliseum and it could be a expansion team but more likely an existing team. He stated it could anyone of three teams. Any ideas, or is this just BS wishful thinking on his part?

This LA crap is the NFL at its worst. They aren't just letting an owner move an underperforming team to the city, they are actually openly trying to force a team to move. Shows how little they care about fans in other cities. Seriously, how many failures have to occur before they realize that maybe football doesn't work in LA.

  2. Emmitt rated above Barry?

    :D:lol:

    oh, he was serious

Emmitt actually clearly helped his teams win games. I am not sure if Barry Sanders had a very positive impact on his team. He could run for 20 yards one down and then lose 7 the next one. Not always the best production for sustained drives.

  3. Dude you must not know alot about Canada. In a lot of ways Canada is superior to the USA. I'm a citizen of both countries and can see the pro and cons on each side of the fence.

Hmm... "I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen."

  4. :I starred in Brokeback Mountain: Emmit.  How is Emmit classy?  I remember him turning around and waving good bye to a linebacker as he scored a TD.  Thats a punk move.  What has Emmit done that is classy?  Derek Brooks is classy.  Warrick Dunn is classy.  Emmit is nowhere near their class

Enh, I think we are being partly blinded by our understandable hatred of the Cowboys. By comparison, there are lot more people on those SB teams I would call classless before him.

  5. Canbuffan made some valid points about why it might not be time to put in Losman. Keep in mind that Losman had less than half a year of practice time. Without him being out there physically thowing the ball in practice, it will be hard for him to complete those passes in actual games.

But Bledsoe is not the answer. If you want a veteran starter--which is not a bad thing to want--there are other QBs to whom you can turn. QBs who have higher ratings than Bledsoe, and who can be signed for lower salaries. QBs like Kurt Warner!

I assume it's a coincidence that your user name has the name Kurt in it?

  6. Lord knows football games need to be less affordable and more about opportunities to close deals in the comfort of the indoors.

I understand the idea, sort of, for a party or for those who can't handle the cold, but it seems the essence of the game is just lost in the luxury box.

The Jets have some the highest ticket prices already and there is a waiting list for season tickets. How exactly are they low on revenue?

  7. There was an article about 3 years ago that listed the 5 worst fans in Pro football. The guy with the arrows in him for the chiefs and Big Dawg for the Browns were 2 I can remember.

Fireman Ed was also on the list. The big reason was that he wasn't even a real Jets fan until he got popular.

    I can't remember the magazine though...damn!

If someone could find this article, I would be very grateful. There's someone I really need to show it to...

  8. the Javits center sucks.

Ask NYC about their convention business compared to places like Las Vegas, Chicago, New Orleans and Orlando - it is a fraction of what they get.

    224277

I am ignorant of this issue, but is it really the convention centers that is the problem or that it is more expensive to have things in general in NYC?

  9. Let's also not forget about what the new stadium mean for the Jets fans and the Bills fans. More revenue for the Jets will allow them to have richer signing bonuses and strengthen their ability to attract FAs over us. Also for the Jets fans this means significantly higher ticket prices, no real parking, no tailgaiting, crappier season tickets, etc. I am not sure who really benefits here besides the owner and Jets fans living on Manhattan. For Jets fans in most areas, it will be more difficult to go to a game.

The state had much more important things to spend its money on and it has things they could get a much better return on investment from. If they are going to build them a stadium, at least find a more cost-effective way to do so.

  10. And I have always been one of those people who has recognized not only the down side, but the up side to NYC.  I am not one of those who argues that Upstate would be better off without NYC........quite frankly it would not.  But this is just another example of downstate politicians working with a blind eye toward upstate.  Yes a new stadium would be nice in NYC, and any help to bring in Olympics would be good as well, however, when will Albany ever look west?

    224086

Upstate New York would be better off without NYC. Yes, NYC can generate a lot of tax revenue, but its existence masks the true economic woes of this area. Wouldn't we be the poorest state in the country if we seperated off of NYC? Having that distinction would bring some national attention to the problems people face here, instead they are ignored. Besides, any revenue advantage is decreasing: the school aid changes will have disastorous effects on upstate either in decreased spending or increased taxes. The Assembly is run by city politicians and the Senate is run by Long Island. Upstate and downstate are too different to effectively coexist.

  11. Interestingly enough, before Lindell started kicking in an open-ended stadium on the shores of Lake Erie, he was 24 of 37 outside of 40yrds. That's about 70% and I'd imagine a fairly respectable number for an NFL kicker.

Can we do better? Of course we can.

But taking into account whre teh Bills play their home games, it's always going to be more important to have a guy who is rock steady from inside 40 where the VAST majority of your FG attempts are going to come from, than it is to have a guy who can bomb teh occasional 50yrdr in Rich stadium but may not be as consistent overall.

Over his career Lindell is 71 of 78 from inside 40 which comes out to a over 91%. I'd also like to have a Top5 NFL kicker, but the one we have now isn't all that bad.

    Cya

    224035

Except that we have had kickers here in the past who can hit the kicks outside of 40 yards in the same element. We shouldn't accept mediocrity because things could conceivably be worse. Nevertheless, I am glad that even Lindell has his defenders on this board. The universe is now in balance.

  12. RJ was last seen during Superbowl XXXIII.  He actually got some playing action during a Superbowl for a team who won.  Imagine that Drew?  RJ sucks but it cracks me up when I read Drew "led" his team to a Superbowl

    223453

Bledsoe wasn't the starting QB when the Patriots went to the Super Bowl after the 96 season?

  13. JP has no track record in the NFL as of yet. Willis comes off like a complete potato head when he talks, yet I don't think many of us would choose to get rid of him. Bledsoe does have a track record. A crappy one.

    223292

I don't think you judge the intelligence of someone just by how well they speak in public. That said, the intelligence of a running back is far less important than the intelligence of a quarterback.

The wonderlic tests are garbage, but I don't think it's a coincidence that the QBs score the highest and the RBs score the lowest in the NFL.
