Love it. Happy to be the aggressors for once. Preseason or not. We've been the lambs for too long. It's our time to be the lion. -

Sounds more like you didn't know that, tried to call me out on it, and then got embarrassed when you realized you were wrong. We've all had those moments though, so it's ok. My original point was that EJ has only looked good against 2nd and 3rd stringers so far. Against the 1st stringers, he did nothing. -

I'm sorry you didn't know that. Multiple news outlets reported it. There are generally 80 players at an NFL training camp. ---------- INDIANAPOLIS -- .... He looked pedestrian early. But he was nervous in his NFL debut. He looked sharp on his final drive. But he operated from behind his starting offensive line and faced the Indianapolis Colts' third-string defense. http://blogs.buffalonews.com/press-coverage/ej-manuel-1/ ----------- Manuel's highlight was a patient 95-yard drive, capped off with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Dorin Dickerson in the two-minute drill just before halftime. Manuel and fellow rookie Robert Woods showed a promising rapport on the drive, even if it came against the Colts' third-string defense. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000229042/article/eight-takeaways-from-buffalo-billsindianapolis-colts -

Wrong like usual? You must be thinking of someone else. I am in no way a Tuel supporter. He could get cut for all I care. EJ did very little against 1st stringers. His 80+ yard 2 minute drive in game 1 was against 3rd stringers. -

Always nice to see your QB playing well. But as was said with Tuel last week, it's tough to give too much credence when he was facing 3rd stringers. Either way, he should be the starter. Kolb should have never been signed. -

Kolb to start Friday
microscopes replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's really quite silly. Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th round. Teams passed him over 160 times. And based on years and years of game tape and practices, Belichick started Bledsoe over him. That's NOT to say that Tuel is Brady. Not at all. In fact, I have no affection or care about Tuel. I was simply stating my opinion on what an open QB competition should be. You could insert anyone for Tuel and it wouldn't change my opinion on it. I doubt Tuel would perform better than Kolb. I think Kolb is probably the better QB. I'm simply stating that if it's an open competition, then the start should go to whomever played the best and has been the best in practice. That is all. As I said in my last post, it has nothing to do with Tuel. You could insert any QB in that position and I would make the same argument. An open competition, to me, should allow all to compete. That's just my opinion. I certainly see the reasons why that isn't feasible. Especially one poster who pointed out that there is limited time with the 1's. That was a great point. Very good points. -

Thank You. I don't think he's outperformed them, but I do think he has done more than Kolb has. I understand that is because Kolb was injured and had a death in the family, but I do think he has done more. -

Yes it does. And Matt In KC's further clarification of only limited time helped me understand the view as well. I still wish that all QB's would be given a fair shake but it is what it is. And that's not because I'm a Tuel fan. It's because I believe you get the best in people when everyone has a shot. -

Listen, I have not said a single thing to you. I have not insulted you, or bothered me. Please leave me alone. If you don't like the way I view the game or my opinion, you can block me. I have my own opinion, and I have as much right to have it as you do. I didn't intend to irk you. That's how what you were saying seemed to me. Apparently to someone else to, who has over 2,000 posts, because they responded and confirmed it. If it's not what you meant, that's fine. But don't be offended by my reply because it wasn't meant in any derogatory way. Ok, fair enough. -

So in other words, Tuel isn't allowed to be even considered for a starting position, no matter how well he plays, because Kolb is an NFL Veteran and EJ is a 1st round pick. I suppose that is how the NFL works so can't really argue. -

Perhaps I am reading too far into the word "fair". I'm a proponent of starting whoever is playing better. Not whomever was drafted higher or is in the league longer. -

Perhaps I am incorrect, but I was under the impression from reports that Kolb was not having a great camp up until he got injured? Am I mistaken? Was he playing well? Thank You. -

I'm sorry you think I'm naive. I assure you I am not. I've played the game at the collegiate level and have some high school coaching experience as well. Maybe I see the game a little different than you do. And that's OK. I don't think draft position should have anything to do with an open competition. Ask Brady for more on that. An open competition, in my eyes, is open to all persons at that position. And whoever has done more up to that point should get the next start. Thats my 2 cents. -

Many of us who are advising for Tuel to start is not saying he is a better QB than Kolb. Nor are we saying that he will be good at all. What we are saying is IF it is a true open fair competition then he should get the start. Because he has done more in camp and games so far than Kolb has. That is all. Where he was drafted (or not) has nothing to do with it. You don't have to be a Tuel homer to see he has done more in Camp than Kolb has. If you came to work at a Marketing company at the same time as Employee X. And you were told it would be an open competition for the Managerial position. You come to work every day, bust your butt, look pretty good, and do well on your first mini project. Employee X on the other hand gets sick, misses a week of work, doesn't finish his mini project, but yet the boss gives him the next big project. I think you would be a bit disappointed, no? It doesn't mean your the better employee. It doesn't mean your a good employee at all. It simply means that you had done more to receive the big project AT THAT POINT than Employee X has. If it was up to me, EJ would start every game. -

I'm not sure how disagreeing with your opinion is trolling, but ok.. Not at all. Where in my post did I say that. Seems that there are some folks on this board who need a few reading comprehension classes. If it is a true competition, then the player who has been at every practice, who is playing better, and actually played well in the only game there has been should receive the start over someone who hasn't been to every practice, who has been hurt, and has not been in any games so far. That's my opinion. I'm sorry you disagree with it. Also, i'm waiting for someone to give me a link where it says that Marrone was limiting the competition to between EJ and Kolb. I have not seen where he said that. I was under the impression that all 3 QB's would have a chance to compete. And before yet another person calls me a Tuel homer, please read my other posts on the topic and you will see that I am quite the opposite. Lastly, people need to learn the definition of TROLLING. Disagreeing with someone's opinion is not trolling. It's called having a difference of opinion. That troll word gets thrown around a lot around here. -

#1 -- Doing everything that has been asked of you does not mean that you earned the start. Tuel also did everything that has been asked of him, and also has not been injured and has not missed any practice. With all other things being equal, Tuel has earned the start more so than Kolb has. I'm not sure how that couldn't be true. #2 -- I don't recall Marrone naming any names concerning the QB competition. He said it would be an open competition and it would be fair. If he mentioned just EJ and Kolb, please link me and I'll admit that I am wrong. But as far as I remember, he said it was an open competition. Whether its an Undrafted Free Agent or a 1st round pick. #3 -- The decision was made and announced before last nights practice. -

Not at all. I actually thought the overreaction of Tuel's play was mind boggling. My point is that IF Marrone is calling this a true competition then Tuel has done MORE to get the start on Friday than Kolb has. If it was up to me, I would start EJ and give him as many reps as possible. -

I thought the same as well. However, when I called back this year to buy a few games they told me they were going to transfer me to him. I said "NOPE!" - transfer me to someone else. -

I'm mainly upset with this because if Marrone is truly having an open competition and rewarding good play, then Tuel should get the star. What Kolb has done to earn the start, I don't know. He has looked semi poor in practice, certainly no better than Tuel, and has missed a week of practice. If things are fair, then Tuel should get the start.
