  1. I'm also of the belief that it'll be Ladd McConkey if they keep the 28th pick.  I see him as the best overall fit for the type of player they seem to value at WR.

I'm a little uncertain of the R2 pick.  I could see it as WR again,  DL or DB.  I do think most of the 4th-7ths will be defense.  In general,  though,  I expect a quality approach to the offense,  quantity on defense.

Here's the outcome if that happens - in one year we'll play the Chiefs in the divisional round. Chop Robinson or Cooper DeJean or whoever else will be invisible as the Chiefs casually move the ball up and down the field at will. Josh Allen will stand on his head and do backflips to keep us in the game but we'll ultimately fall short because no one else on offense cared to make a play. People will say "why can't Josh Allen beat Mahomes?" McDermott will have a presser that week talking about how hard it is to win and how close we are. Next year around draft time the usual suspects will say "we can't focus only on WRs, we have too many needs." Rinse and repeat.

If you don't know for a fact that this would be the outcome of picking a non-WR with our first pick, you're lying to yourself.

    Same **** every year.

I'm not going to say they absolutely have to draft a WR in R1 and obviously I don't know how they have their board graded.  But otherwise,  I agree.  If you want to prevent that scenario you described with a defensive pick,  you're going to need to draft an all pro at 28.   Realistically,  well,  good luck with that.

I am of the unpopular opinion that drafting a WR in the first round is not a foregone conclusion. I don't imagine that Beane will ever make a draft choice out of panic. But, if a CB, or DE, whom they grade higher than the remaining WRs at #28, falls to them, don't be surprised if that is their pick. And as glaring a need as WR is, it most certainly gives me pause to think that after the starting five of Benford, Douglas, Johnson, Rapp, and Edwards, the best remaining defensive back on the team is Cam Lewis.

If this draft is as deep in WRs as the pundits say, it shouldn't be surprising that they might get the best value with their first two picks by waiting until the second round to draft a WR.

I don't think it's a certainty that they draft a WR at all.  I think that Latu and DeJean will be two players the Bills would be highly interested in,  though Latu would have some medical questions.

As for the WR depth...if they go another direction at 28,  I think it likely forces a trade up in R2.  There's good depth at WR,  but once the run starts,  they're going to fly off the board quick, and it's going to be getting very thin around the middle of R2.

I'm not dismissing the other issues. I'm accepting that constant investment at the same positions, to the detriment of the WR room, has not been a successful strategy. Draft a pass rusher at 28, it won't make a difference in the playoffs. You know it and I know it. Adding a WR will make a difference.

Late 1st round DEs scare the hell out of me,  anyway,  but I'd be particularly concerned right now that a rookie would end up buried as the #4 on the depth chart,  average 8 plays per game and have two sacks and a dozen tackles by the end of the year.

Odunze to the Jets, Worthy to the Dolphins will send this board into a tailspin...

As long as it doesn't send the Bills' front office into panic mode to go after a CB...

He is, IMO, the best route runner in the draft. Every route he does is crisp and clean. It's Diggs-like.

You don't get compared to Terrell Owens for nothing. We can have Samuel for deep balls, I want Odunze because he can be dangerous where Josh is dangerous - comebacks, posts, and hitch routes.

I don't really see it with Odunze.  He is quick through his routes  and I think he'll be a good possession receiver,  but I didn't see much speed or downfield separation.  I liked Polk better on the downfield stuff.  Hands and adjustment on contested catches is good,  not great.  Not impressed with the QB at all on a lot of throws to Odunze,  so that his a factor, but I don't see a top 10 kind of prospect.  Admittedly,  this was more an initial impression from a casual watch of all of his targets this year.  I don't think the Bills have a realistic shot at him anyway.

Now,  that being said,  I realize I'm just some guy watching this crap at home on his couch.  What the hell do I know?  I've been wrong before,  and generally,  if I'm against the popular opinion,  I tend to think I'm wrong.  But that's my quick impression.

what if he has to have shoulder surgery and misses the whole season?

    Well,  then they're screwed.

With the WR depth chart being what it is,  whomever they select damn well better be able to produce at least at a halfway decent level this year.

I love Kincaid but they could’ve easily got Addison. I had to listen to someone on WGR the other day say they really wanted him.

I mean? Ok. He was only a few picks away. Let me say this, I think Addison, Flowers, and JSN would be the 4th WR this year.

There were a lot of rumors last year regarding the Bills interest in Addison,  in particular,  but all three were top 30 visits.

Any trade for an established receiver just got more expensive..

    Amon-Ra just got 4/120 with 77 guaranteed

It also provides more incentive for the teams drafting ahead of us to draft a highly rated rookie WR themselves rather than trade down.  And,  of course,  more expensive to convince them otherwise.

BTJ looks faster on the field than Worthy to me, especially separating deep

I'm not as high on BTJ as some others are,  but I agree.   His downfield speed and ability to separate are exceptional.  I thought he and Troy Franklin were the best in that regard,  with Franklin being a guy who plays faster than that 4.41.

I like Worthy,  but from what I've seen,  I never got the impression that he was a 4.21 guy on the field.  Fast,  but not that ridiculously fast.

I don't see much of a difference between him and some of the other guys plus it's reported that he now has a shoulder issue and may need surgery but who knows. I'd rather they had not traded up at all if this is who is available on the board

Agreed,  and unfortunately,  as much as I'd like to see them go WR at 28,  I don't like the value nearly as much at 19.

I voted for Cooper DeJean.  I don't want a R1 DB,  but he fits this D as a zone CB with freakish speed and athleticism,  and in the event that he doesn't make it there (and I think he would),  he has the size to move to safety.

...Actually,  I'd have to change my vote.  I didn't see Quinyon Mitchell still available.  I'd choose him over DeJean here.  Not that it matters,  as BTJ is going to run away with this.

In all reality, what the hell else would they be doing, when even we all know WR is the biggest priority for the teams competitive health going forward…?  It’s the proverbial no brainer,

I think there's an outside chance they might make a modest move up the board for Latu,  in particular,   if they're satisfied with the medicals.  Top 10 pass rushing prospect most years available at something of a bargain price...I can see McDermott and Beane being highly interested.

I'd much prefer a WR,  but I wouldn't be shocked by that.

I also buy that he cut down to 165 lbs just so he could break that record but usually plays closer to 175.

Well,  that's kind of raises another question.  Do the Bills see him as someone that plays his career at 165,  or do they think they can get him into the 175-180 range over the next couple of years and still retain elite speed and quickness?

I don't understand why people are enamored with Worthy. He is sooo skinny and one trick and that is NOT the kind of receiver we need. We lose to the Chiefs because we can't get off the line. We would probably have the smallest receiving corps in the NFL if we draft him. He will be a monumental bust, IMO.

There is next to 0 chance Beane takes Worthy.

I don't think he's a 'one trick' type by any stretch.  The size issue is definitely a real concern,  IMO,  but he's otherwise a real receiver prospect,  not just a track guy running vertical routes.  He's been a 60+ catch guy three years in a row at Texas.  He can run routes.

I'm not sure he's their first choice or anything,  but I definitely think he's in play for the Bills.

While its possible they do take him at 21...I would say that if the Dolphins draft Worthy at 21 they should immediately fire the GM before their next pick.

    Lets Recap:

    • Dolphins have one of the best, and some would say arguably the best, WR duos in the NFL in Hill and Waddle.
    • Dolphins are the fastest team in the NFL both at WR and RB and fastest offense overall.  Elite speed at both positions.

Despite all of this, in the last years the Dolphins have failed to win their division, even with a 4 game lead late in the season, have failed to win a playoff game, and have only won 2 games against teams with a .500 or better record in 2 seasons.

So why is that?  Despite all that speed, most in the NFL, the offense is easily defensible by simply disrupting Tua's early reads.  There is no way adding Worthy makes any difference to this teams fortunes.  They are not going to be able to get teams off the field on defense, and on offense, with Worthy as a 3rd WR he won't help Tua when his OL stinks and teams keep disrupting Tua and taking away all the speed advantage they have.

    Now add in:

    • Dolphins OL is a mess
    • Dolphins lost everyone who matters in their front 7 and DL is a bigger mess than OL

Like I would literally absolutely fire the GM the moment Worthy's name was announced...not a knock on Worthy at all, its about Miami needs and team makeup where.  Worthy is a god awful pick for them to use their first round pick on as he will be essentially a WR3 on their team that has massive holes in the trenches.  There will be some really good OL guys on the board at 21.

I PRAY this happens, I will laugh so hard and I promise you it would be the end of this coaching staff and front office by next offseason.

I'm not saying it's particularly smart,  but they do seem to be showing a good deal of interest in him.
