He also has thrown more interceptions than any other quarterbacks on the planet since 2019.

I really don't care that much about the interceptions as long as he's 2:1 or better on TD passes.   If they're going to call 700 pass plays a year,  the QB is going to throw some interceptions.

As poorly as they've been playing offensively,  including for most of this game,  I have no confidence that they could have done it.  McDermott should just be happy that they actually scored to take the lead after all that.

That loser is standing at the podium throwing his players under the bus. Blaming Cook of all people, blaming Josh, blaming special teams coverage. Blaming execution on the 12 men on the field. I can't believe what I'm hearing.

If that's the case,  he needs to be fired tomorrow morning.   I had suspected he'd lost the team and that's why they look like they don't give a F,  but that would explain it.

  4. I wonder if some of this is that the WRs have multiple route options on each play and that they're not where Josh is expecting them to be. That may or may not be part of the problem, but if it is, it would explain his hesitation and probably also his over-reliance on Diggs.

Weird because last week after Gabe had one of his occasional decent games,@Over 29 years of fanhood called me out and called me names for criticizing Gabes bad performance the week before after another 1 catch game.

And just like I said, Gabe back to disappearing again the next week.  Gabe now has 3 or less catches in 6 games this year, 4 of them he has 0-2 catches.

This has been Gabe all 4 years he’s been in the league.

Agreed.  I've been as supportive of Gabe Davis as anyone,  but at this point,  I've seen enough.  It's too late for 2023,  but they need more from WR2 and the depth guys next year.  Shakir is playing pretty well,  but that group needs a major overhaul for next season.

Beane added Sherfield and Harty and kept Davis as WR2. And at this juncture, those decisions allow every defense to simply double Diggs.

Yeah,  I said as much a couple of weeks ago.  Dorsey and Allen are going to catch most of the blame,  but aside from Diggs,  I suspect that the WRs are more of the problem than is readily apparent.  Just at face value,  the dropoff in talent and experience over the last two seasons has been enormous,  losing Beasley,  Brown and Sanders.  Davis is bordering upon a major disappointment.  Shakir is looking pretty good,  but he's not there yet.  The rest aren't much.  Kincaid is having an excellent rookie year,  but he's not a WR,  even if they use him in a similar role. Looking at the decline of that position group,  I don't think it's a big surprise that the offense is struggling.  As you say,  if the D can take away Diggs,  they're willing to take their chances with the others,  and to this point,  aside from an occasional big game out of Davis,  that's been a pretty safe bet.

The Bills can’t retool in 2024. They are in cap hell. They need to cut bait with the over 30 crowd on defense, take their dead cap hits for 2024 and then they will have lots of cap room for 2025 forward. It’s their only chance to actually compete for a championship in the future. This year is shot, and next year needs to be a pass so that they can actually do something 2025 and future years.

I agree.  I would unload every last over-the-hill, dead weight contract I could this offseason with the goal of clearing cap space for 2025.

In more cases than not I’d agree with you that going for it would be the correct call, but not in this game in the situation they were in. TB had not been able to move the ball on us and pinning them deep had worked well. I called for the punt both times before we did it. IMO it was good situational coaching.

I think the conservative approach on those drives is fair game for criticism, but ahead 24-10,  I agree, I think the punts were absolutely the correct call.  That's especially true when you have no idea what kind of shotgun BS play Ken Dorsey is going to dial up in short yardage.

Not to be that guy but they technically have attempted to replace vet WR’s that left the team from 2021 to 2022 (I assume you are referring to Beasley, Brown and Sanders). Gabe was also drafted in 2020 to develop behind Brown, Diggs and Beasley.

In 2022 they drafted Shakir who is finally breaking out and they signed Crowder last season as a vet stop gap. In 2023 they signed Hardy, Sheffield and drafted Kincaid to be another pass catcher.

I would have preferred they gotten a better stop gap slot WR replacement in 2022 than Crowder but once again the attempt was there to ease the losses at WR.

Well, yes, technically they've replaced them, but the resources they've expended to do so in comparison to the talent lost has been just about the minimum they could get away with.  Two 5ths, two guys signed at/near the veteran minimum and a mid tier kick returner/gadget guy.  You could argue Kincaid, but its still not the same position. Thankfully Shakir is showing signs of life,  but to this point,  the drop-off in quality beyond WR2 the last two years has been significant.

  10. Kincaid is certainly playing well,  but I tend to think that a large part of it has also been Khalil Shakir.  This is a team that has lost three good WRs over the last couple of years and made minimal effort to replace them.  Now that Shakir appears to be stepping up,  providing Josh with a competent, reliable 3rd option at WR,  it's no surprise that the offense looks better.

Mahomes won a Super Bowl without Hill. I sincerely doubt Allen wins a Super Bowl without Diggs, when he can’t even win one with Diggs.

Mahomes has a huge advantage over Allen just based on the fact that he has Andy Reid designing and calling plays.

Unfortunately,  I'm starting to think that Allen is comparable to John Elway under Dan Reeves.  It took them a decade to bring in a coaching staff that would allow Elway to reach his full potential.  I think that may be the case here as well.

He under threw Diggs on both plays!! 2nd under thrown ball was under duress though

I'd have to see the first one again,  but I think Diggs may have misjudged the ball on that one.  I don't really have an issue with it either way,  it still flipped the field.   The second that was intercepted was underthrown a bit,  but still catchable.

In both cases,  it is what it is.

It worked better with Harris/Murray. At the very least they got some positive yards

It did,  but I still wouldn't call it 'good'.  I think all three RBs would have more success if Dorsey would stop running from the shotgun.

Allen actually had a pretty good day. Even if you take away the garbage time drive he has nearly 300 yards and a good completion percentage, and his pick was essentially an arm punt on third down. With the garbage time drive he had 375 total yards and 3 TDs.

    This game was just cursed.

Even on the interception,  Diggs had both hands on it.  In fact,  he caught it and the DB ripped it away from him.

I just hope they realize James Cook is SIMPLY a utility RB.

I don't think that's it as much as their insistence on trying to force a running game out of the shotgun formation.
