1. naw, not really.  The elusiveness isn't there so much at the NFL level, but at least he has hands.  Antonio Brown couldn't catch a cold.

    530179

I should have phrased my originial post differently. My comparison is more of a guy who has good(not great) straight ahead speed and goes down very easily. Not so much of a comparison as to how he can catch the football.

  2. Am I the only one not impressed by RP's so-called blazing speed? I believe there was one kick or punt return yesterday where he appeared to be caught from behind by a LB. I don't see any elusiveness from him on the passes he has caught or the kicks he has returned and because he is 170 lbs. soaking wet, he can't break any tackles and goes down easily.

I know it is only his first year, but I don't see anything special about his future. He probably would have been a better pick for the Rams in their wide open offense.

    Remind anyone of Antonio Brown?

  3. If TD is so good a promoting the Bills and getting people to buy tickets we should keep him in that position. However, if a change needs to be made I think we should get rid of his GM title and get someone new. There are some negatives to this, but it could be seen as a compromise position after this horrible season.

    530050

RW is paying TD a boatload of cash to build a football team, not to sell tickets. That's where his so-called expertise is. TD got the title of President so that he wouldn't have to answer to anyone but the 80+ year old owner of the team. I have no proof of this, but I bet TD does not have a lot to do with the non-football day-to-day operations. I'm sure there are plenty of qualified staff in the front office that take care of this.

TD has had 5 years to land this team in the playoffs and has failed miserably. Time for him to move on.

  4. In hind sight that was the smartest thing he ever did, MLB is a money losing black hole for small markets and if you don't like losing with the bills you certainly wouldn't like losing for 20 or thirty years straight in MLB....

    524533

Sometimes I wonder though...if small market teams like KC and PIT have been losing money for all these years, why do the owners not move them to another city or sell the teams? Maybe it's because they are not in as bad a shape finacially as perceived.

  5. Before I'd support Golisano, I have to see how he handles the Sabres.  His first year showed me NOTHING good.  His moves (or lack of them) this year, again, showed me NOTHING at all.  So far, the team is performing.  Let's see if he can be a good and classy owner for a few years before placing our beloved Bills in his hands.

JJ and Rich would be good options as they have pretty good sports-team experience and would likely keep the team in the Bufftown.  Right now the team is Ralph's and he's not selling or moving it.  That's all good as far as I'm concerned.

    524261

I'm still pissed at Bob Rich for that blank check waving charade at the owners meeting many moons ago, when he led everyone to believe that he was going to bring MLB to Buffalo.

  6. Just a thought since everyone here seems to know everything that happened...but what if Moulds deserves this?

    524198

I have no proof of this, but I have a hunch that a select group of vets are trying to undermine MM's authority. The inmates cannot run the asylum and if they don't like it, they need to be shown the door.

  7. Forget about TD, MM & EM, it all starts at the top. I think Golisano will be the next owner of the Buffalo Bills. By owning the Sabres he has built up his resume and when the Bills become available, I believe he will drop the Sabres and move up to play with the big boys.

Notice that I said the next owner of the BUFFALO Bills as I don't believe the NFL will allow this franchise to be moved out of WNY.

PS This is assuming he gives up his aspirations for public office.

  8. I really like EM and want him to stay, albeit at a reduced cost. However, everybody on here keeps talking about how he took less money to stay in Buffalo. That is pure BS.Here is the list of the top WR deals over the last four years. See any bonuses HIGHER than EM, okay one. But his deal was done FOUR years ago. Look at either the first three years or total comp and EM is still one of the top five paid WRs, and his deal is four years old.

Like I said , God Bless EM and I wish him well if he is here or somewhere else, but stop with the suggestions he was loyal and stayed here with a hometown discount. My gut tells me if he hit the open market, we would have gotten him for less.

Joe Horn — Six years, $42 million, $8 million in bonuses (May 2005)

Great post! Moulds stayed here because he received a kings ransom, not because his loyalty to the Bills blinded him.

Has he got the short end of the stick in terms of QB's, numerous coaching staff changes, bad teams,etc.. throughout his career? YES, but so have a lot of other players. That's the hand he was dealt. If he is now bitter as he nears the end of his career and wants to be a disruptive force in the locker room, get rid of him ASAP!

  9. Nobody knows for sure what is going on inside the locker room except for those in the organization, but I'm wondering whether MM is reacting to a select group of vets who are attempting to undermine his authority aka "inmates running the asylum". The combination of another losing season can wear on vets who are nearing the end of their careers and maybe MM did not nip it in the bud. Now it has reached the boiling point and is spilling over.

MM certainly isn't helping himself by making it as media circus, but that is what happens with a HC who does not have the experience dealing with situations like this.

  10. TD will remain as President of Football Operations and handle contract negotiations.  MM will be retained but there will be shake up among assistants.  Look for the departure of Tom Clements and the elevation of Sam Wyche to OC.  JG will remain as DC.

    522917

If that is the case TM will be nothing more than TD's puppet. The Bills need to make a clean break from TD.

  11. I don't want Clements gone. His salary demands will unfortunately end his career as a Bill. You say the problem with this team is not talent, I say what looks good on paper i.e. "big name" players, doesn't always translate to quality play on the field.

The reason we were so bad in GW's first season is because there was no money to sign anyone because of the salary cap mess. I don't believe that will be an issue this offseason.

If Moulds and Williams agree to paycuts without contract extensions, giving them "incentive money"(as you state) or moving money to the back end of the contracts, I am okay with that....but neither gets a nickel more just because they were so kind to help out the Bills!!! The cap figures for these two are unbelievable.

Trust me it will NOT be an upgrade!  Not even close.  So you actually want Clements, Vincent and Milloy gone?  Great secondary we'll have.  Be careful what you wish for---the problem with this team is not talent.  One game all year they were outclassed--San Diego.  The problem is attitude, coaching and folding down the stretch.  This team needs to learn how to win close games.  This season again is like last year--you look back and the Bills have blown three late 4th quarter leads (New England, Miami, Carolina).  That's why this is so maddening.  You get rid of all those players and then we are really bad---like GW 1st season bad when we lost because we had no talent.  At least we're closer with these guys.  If you can keep Moulds and even Williams by them taking pay cuts and then adding incentive money then do it.  There are no replacements on this roster anyway for the safeties and cap wise it is not bad to keep them.  Safeties get burned--look at a top 5 pick for the Redskins.  He has gotten burned plenty this year as has Roy Williams of the Cowboys.  Safeties will get burned at times--it happens.

    522908

  12. And replace them with who?  We have no replacements for them--that is an even bigger problem.  You think our secondary is vulnerable now?  How about with Coy Wire and who knows who else back there.

    522896

Did you read my post or just the title of the thread? I discussed the potential of Rashad Baker as a potential replacement for Vincent. Also, there is this thing every March called F/A where you let go over priced and over the hill players and replace them with younger players who you believe can do a better job.

Just because they are "name" players that everybody has heard of doesn't mean they are the answer to the problem..

  13. These two signings are perfect examples of what went wrong during the TD era. Both guys were signed on the downside of their careers to very good contracts. They were name players that looked good on paper, helped sell seats and were better than their predecessors(Wire & Reese/Prioleau). The only problem is...both guys have little or nothing left in the tank. Was Vincent even dressed Sunday?

Guys on the wrong side of 30 work well when plugged into an existing lineup that is very good. They are not the kind of guys who can come in and be difference makers in an otherwise ordinary lineup.

Unfortunately, the Bills need to address the OL & DL early and often in the draft and with not much in terms of backups, it's look to F/A or keep these two. Wire is never going to cut it as a starter and I'm not sure if Leonhard can overcome his size limitations to become a starter. Baker has shown some promise, but I doubt they will bench Vincent to give Baker a look before the end of the season.

It is never easy to cut loose name players, but Vincent and Milloy need to go along with...

    Adams(cut)

    Williams(cut)

    Teague(loss via F/A)

    Moulds(cut)

    Posey(cut)

    Shelton(cut)

    Clements(loss via F/A)

I know this is 9 starters from the current team, but we are not getting much bang for the buck from these guys except for Clements who will want a king's ransom this off season.

Get a new GM after the year, invest wisely in F/A and commite to rebuilding your OL & DL via the draft. I am not opposed to going after a younger RFA knowing that you have to give up draft picks in return. It will probably take two years to reload the team and I am hoping that MM can learn from his mistakes.

It's very difficult to say, because it's been way too long since the Bills have seen the playoffs and even longer since they won a playoff game, but...

It's time to tear it down and rebuild it. :D

  14. They kept running up the middle because the reports of Willis having "speed" have been over stated in my opinion. He is a young Eddie George, minus the heart.

    521198

I don't agree. He may not have the speed to break off 80 yard runs, but if he doesn't have the speed to turn the corner on a sweep or a pitch, he wouldn't be of much use to the Bills.

  15. Sorry, but the NFL is the only big-time sports league with a presence in WNY. Hockey and third tier college hoops just doesn't cut it I'm afraid. The NHL is still off the radar screen for most of the USA. Face it, football is what the American sports scene revolves around. I just can't get excited about a winning hockey team. Even if the Sabes had won the cup a few years back, not many would have noticed.  <_<  Remember Empire interviewing those Dallas residents on the street the afternoon of games? Many of them had NO IDEA what they were being asked about-didn't even KNOW their city had an NHL team! Football is just a better game anyway, and that's why people love it. Hockey just isn't as athletically impressive. So get pumped about your low rung sports if you wish, but the NFL is where its at, and the Bills just aren't performing up to par. Only Bills success can fill that void. :D

    521310

-If the Sabres had won the cup against the Stars, the entire community of WNY would have noticed and by far would have been the biggest celebration this city has ever seen.

-I'm guessing here, but the reason most of the people of Dallas didn't know about their hockey team is probably because their fan base is mostly transplanted northerners.

-If you don't like the Sabres or the UB Bulls, speak for yourself. I think both teams will make Jan, Feb & Mar an exciting time in WNY.

Just curious...do you currently live in WNY? If so, it might help to be a little more open minded towards other sports. As a matter of fact, after this football season, it will be a welcome relief.
