  1. QUESTIONABLE: TE Charles Clay (Knee); WR Greg Salas (Groin); WR Sammy Watkins (Foot).

The oft injured Sammy Watkins issue is well documented, and may not play.

Charles Clay has a chronic new condition and may not play.

    Greg Salas: groin.

Looking at the depth chart, that would move Robert Woods to # 1, and Goodwin to # 2?

Walter Powell - is he even really a receiver? Never caught an NFL... yet.

Goodwin was on concussion protocol already this season, 2 games in?

  2. The Bills are clearly broken. And with Richie, Glenn, Bradham, Gilmore, Hogan, etc contract's looming-where do we begin to fix this team? Multiple linemen, a second tight end, edge rusher, linebackers, a safety- that's a start. Right now we are drafting 18th. Who should we be looking at? Where do we start?

I think any draft discussion must begin with QB, but with Ryan as HC does that really matter as much?

  3. Under Marrone and Schwartz Hughes was a more effective player. Yes, he had a tendency to periodically jump offsides last year but without a doubt he was a more effective player. Under the prior regime Dareus was not only one of our best defensive players on the team but he was one of the best defensive linemen in the league. His play has noticeably dropped off this year.

Mario Williams is a shell of what he was. I'm not going to blame his vanishing act on the coaching staff and the change in scheme. I strongly believe that he is playing with an injury to his foot that is severely impairing him.

I've never been a Rex Ryan fan. As far as I am concerned he is a self-promoting huckster. He had initial success with the Jets but the longer he coached them the worse the team got. When he left the team was in a shambles. Based on his record with the Jets his hire was not only a bad hire it was a peculiar hire.

The Jets are a better team with an upward trajectory without the slick former Jets and the Bills are now a stuck franchise due to their own doing with this ridiculous hire.

    Coaching matters!

    ! + 100

  4. Terrible. His old team was a tire fire under him. Now the Jets are fighting for a playoff spot. The Bills meanwhile, have taken a step back.

Nothing is going to change under this guy. Keep him, and next December we'll be having the same conversation about a stupid, undisciplined team.

    ding ding ding! + 1

  5. I'm glad some other people are finally calling this out. Woods has been a huge disappointment in my eyes since year 2. The way he uses his feet and positions his body before attempting to make a catch, he sabotages himself every time. Combine that with below average speed, size, and hands, and you have a guy who is not good enough to be a top 2 WR in the NFL. I think the Bills realized this when they picked up Harvin, and then slotted Hogan above him in many situations when Harvin got hurt.

Unfortunately combined with the bad misses on Graham and Goodwin, they are still in the market for a #2 WR.

Hogan on the other hand has overachieved. He has done well, considering he isn't particularly gifted in any one area. However he also shouldn't be a #2.

  6. Even with a talented roster, it takes time for a new coaching staff to get settled in. You can see the relationship between scheme and players improve over the course of the year although its in fits and starts — defense last week against NE, offense this week, at least in the first half. They have a favorable stretch of opponents to end the season. I'm interested to see how they respond.

The past 2 D.C. didn't seem to have any issues getting the most out of that unit...

  7. M William, K Williams, Lawson, McKelvin are cap casualties - does Nigel Bradham fit anywhere? I have the feeling Rex might like Powell or Steward more as a inside LB pairing with Brown

Dareus moves to 3-4 DE, Hughes to OLB - Rex needs NTs TJ Barnes is a fit - Damon Harrison, Terrance Knighton are free agents , Rex needs 3-4 DEs Bryant, Charles, Carrington, Wynn, Worthy would be potential fits M Wilkerson would be a very expensive free agent option, the draft has some options, OLB - Randell Johnson? Lavar Edwards? unless you got JJ Watt this is where your pass rush comes from in a 3-4, no great options pop out at me in free agency (Von Miller is on the free agent list so for you dreamers) but the draft has some interesting fits .

So Ryan tears apart a top 3-4, to rebuild another D and get fired after three years...

  8. Marcel Dareus stated in the pre season he was being asked to do things he wasn't asked to do last season, and publicly stated he was being used incorrectly. Rex Ryan then told the media that his defense was so complex that it takes awhile for the players to grasp / understand it. What that statement is, is complete horse crap because Ryan is asking his DT's to play gap control over rushing. He is also asking his D line to play a zone blitz, and have them drop into pass coverage more then they should.

I have never been so over a new HC as I am R. Ryan.

How did he last in N.Y. for so long?

  9. Well, I'd start with the Team Chaplain. There is a deep spiritual void here. That, and the fact that he's one of the worst in-game tacticians I've seen among the NFL Chaplaincy ranks.

    Seriously... Who goes?

Whaley can't pick a QB or a Head Coach.

Ryan isn't getting any better. Pass on him.

    D Coordinator Thurman has taken a top 2-3 D and turned them into a top 15-20 D.

    E.J., TT?

  10. It seems Rex Ryan is not the answer as HQ: he's not. He is under contract for how many more years? 3?

The team is a penalty waiting to happen, Rex doesn't seem to be able to manage a game correctly, and the D has regressed under his system.

Who goes after this season, because it it isn't going to be him.

Thurman would seem the obvious choice. Where has he been besides Baltimore? I don't know.

  11.

I'd say there are two reasons.

One, even though they don't throw the ball a lot those guys make it easier for the Bills to do everything. Clay is a nightmare matchup problem for defenses. He's fast and also a willing blocker. Teams have a tough time deciding what type of D to play if the Bills go with 22 personnel (two TE/two RB set.) They'll most likely go base and with McFaden and Clay they're going to get LBs matched up on them. They can create mismatches like this if a lot of packages. Clay's ability alone allows the Bills to dictate to the defense. That's not normally the case for a team that wants to run the ball so much. But for Roman's offense it's imperative.

Watkins, with his talent alone, opens up things for everybody else in addition to being a big play threat on every down. He's a young QB's best friend.

The 2nd reason is that you don't sign/draft guys for one year. These guys are going to be here awhile and while the Bills don't have the ability to utilize all their guys to the best of their ability right now it doesn't mean they won't be able to do so a year or two down the line. Get a QB who you don't have to hide and can utilize all those guys and the Bills will be a formidable matchup for anybody.

    Nice post. THx.

    Let's get a QB.

  12. The problem with looking at the stats of guys like Watkins, Clay and Woods is that the Bills want to throw the ball less than 20 times a game. Even with a 70% completion percentage that roughly 14 completions to split between those guys. Nobody is going to have big stats until we have a QB who can be relied on to put the ball up more. Hopefully TT develops into that guy.

    Makes sense, good point.

Then why spend 2 1st's n Watkins and pay a big time contract FA contract to Clay?

  13. Charles Clay was a huge signing this off-season, I think everyone would have had to agree when it happened.

Why isn't he getting the ball more? I thought he was supposed to be a huge mismatch for the Bills O, and they don't

seem to be able to get him the ball with any consistency: IMO

He catches the ball when targeted and can run also. What gives?
