There goes the AARP vote. Probably right, Tom. But I doubt either a "D" or an "R" would use that additional money's to pay down those deficts.

Mr. Obama is proposing to raise the dividend tax rate to the higher personal income tax rate of 39.6% that will kick in next year. Add in the planned phase-out of deductions and exemptions, and the rate hits 41%. Then add the 3.8% investment tax surcharge in ObamaCare, and the new dividend tax rate in 2013 would be 44.8%—nearly three times today's 15% rate. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204880404577225493025537660.html?mod=WSJ_hp_LEFTTopStories The question is how this helps anyone. According to the Investment Company Institute, about 51% of adults own stock directly or through mutual funds, which is more than 100 million shareholders. Tens of millions more own stocks through pension funds. Why would the White House endorse a policy that will make these households poorer? Seldom has there been a clearer example of a policy that is supposed to soak the rich but will drench almost all American families. Yes we can!!

12 Scary Debt Facts for 2012

And today, Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner conceded that the administration didn't even attempt to do anything about the nation's long-term debt problem. Yes we can!!! -

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/12-scary-debt-facts-for-2012.html Yes we can!! 1. The U.S. national debt on Jan. 1, 1791, was just $75 million dollars. Today, the U.S. national debt rises by that amount about once an hour. 2. Our nation began its existence in debt after borrowing money to finance the Revolutionary War. President Andrew Jackson nearly eliminated the debt, calling it a "national curse." Jackson railed against borrowing, spending and even banks, for that matter, and he tried to eliminate all federal debt. By Jan. 1, 1835, under Jackson, the debt was just $33,733. 3. When World War II ended, the debt equaled 122 percent of GDP (GDP is a measure of the entire economy). In the 1950s and 1960s, the economy grew at an average rate of 4.3 percent a year and the debt gradually declined to 38 percent of GDP in 1970. This year, the Office of Budget and Management expects that the debt will equal nearly 100 percent of GDP. 4. Since 1938, the national debt has increased at an average annual rate of 8.5 percent. The only exceptions to the constant annual increase over the last 62 years were during the administrations of Clinton and Johnson. (Note that this is the rate of growth; the national debt still existed under both presidents.) During the Clinton presidency, debt growth was almost zero. Johnson averaged 3 percent growth of debt for the six years he served (1963-69). 5. When Ronald Reagan took office, the U.S. national debt was just under $1 trillion. When he left office, it was $2.6 trillion. During the eight Regan years, the US moved from being the world's largest international creditor to the largest debtor nation. 6. The U.S. national debt has more than doubled since the year 2000. Under President Bush: At the end of calendar year 2000, the debt stood at $5.629 trillion. Eight years later, the federal debt stood at $9.986 trillion. Under President Obama: The debt started at $9.986 trillion and escalated to $15.3 trillion, a 53 percent increase over three years. 7. FY 2013 budget projects a deficit of $901 billion in 2013, representing 5.5 percent of GDP, down from a deficit of $1.33 trillion in FY 2012, which was the fourth consecutive year of more than $1 trillion dollar deficits. 8. The U.S. national debt rises at an average of approximately $3.8 billion per day. 9. The US government now borrows approximately $5 billion every business day. 10. A trillion $10 bills, if they were taped end to end, would wrap around the globe more than 380 times. That amount of money would still not be enough to pay off the U.S. national debt. 11. The debt ceiling is the maximum amount of debt that Congress allows for the government. The current debt ceiling is $16.394 trillion effective Jan. 30, 2012. 12. The U.S. government has to borrow 43 cents of every dollar that it currently spends, four times the rate in 1980.

We should modernize our nuclear weapons stockpiles. This includes developing and testing weapons to be sure that they work. We should develop a range of “bunker busters” and “mini” nuclear weapons that are capable of destroying deeply buried WMD facilities or striking at hidden terrorist bases. We should continue to develop a National Missile Defense (NMD) to protect us from smaller attacks. We should recognize that nuclear proliferation is inevitable and work to see that it is managed carefully. We should keep all of our nuclear options open, including the possibility of preemptive strikes to protect the United States. I wonder how many of the ones we now have would even work. Sure there are systems checks and such, but they had those in the Shuttle program too. Look what happened there. As far as how many, I've read a couple of thing that sugest the number be 500. But there's the rub, how many would work. -

Please explain how that's foolish... So what is the minimum number of nuclear lentils that is a "credible diarrhea deterrent"? That's inaccurate in too many ways to even list. Get a real source. And are we talking about lentils now? I thought we were talking about diarrhea. Based on what strategic lentil calculus? I've always called everyone an idiot just because they're wrong. DiN, for example, is an idiot even when he's right. "Idiocy" is the inability to think correctly, it's the inability to think coherently. You want to discuss nuclear lentil strategy with me, then do it. Don't make ridiculous statements justified with an "lentil" prejudice. Sounds like a good idea to me! But be careful, the nitpickers are here today. -

The Shield. Russian president Dimitri Medvedev walked out of talks with the United States back in November over U.S. plans to set up a missile defense system in Europe. The European Phased Adaptive Approach plan is an intricate array of sea and land based missiles which were designed to be used against a missile attack from Iran. The U.S. says that cooperation from Moscow is needed to help the shield work. Moscow on the other hand claims the talks were useless because the U.S. refused to guarantee the missiles would not be aimed at Russia. This is nothing more than obama's planned emasculation of the USA by the “we hate America” radical left. It is a three pronged strategy, 1. Destroy the US economy through massive debt, devalued currency, and high fuel prices. 2. Destroy the will of the people by high unemployment, onerous regulations via "healthcare" and pitting economic classes and races against each other. 3. Destroy the military by cutting nukes and funding; reducing the number of men in uniform and over extending and exhausting the rest. -

Speaking of the Ruskies... December 21, 2011 – MOSCOW – Russia, frustrated with anti-nuke talks with the United States has decided to put an end to the talks and move forward with its plans to upgrade its nuclear defensive and offensive systems, including the construction on a new and more powerful Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). Nicknamed “Satan” by Western intelligence, the new missile carries a 100-ton warhead. This giant ICBM will take its place at the head of an already impressive missile arsenal which includes the Yars, Topol-M and Bulava-class ballistic missiles sometime in 2015. http://theextinctionprotocol.wordpre...on-in-arsenal/ Yeah, but lets cut ours 80% The number we have now seems about right. -

5,113 including inactive reserves. 1790 deployed. Already reduced by 75% since the Berlin Wall came down. Weakness invites aggression. Experts tell us that nukes deteriorate over time and that testing and upgrades are needed to our aging nuke force. We don't test. The weapons we have might not even all work 100% today. Reduce the numbers as mush as proposed and we might be left without a credible deterrent. -
