From Peter King's 10 things I think I think summary of the Owner's meeting... 5. I think this is my Leftover Scene of the Week from the league meetings: Wednesday morning, around 8:50, just off the back of the lobby, sat a cadre of Buffalo Bills braintrust -- owner Ralph Wilson, GM Marv Levy, coach Dick Jauron, and vice president of business administration Jim Overdorf. "We've got to be able to stop the run,'' Wilson said to the group as I walked past. "Are we going to be able to stop the run?'' I didn't wait to hear the reply, but I thought if I were Jauron, I wouldn't say no I think we know where the owner's priority is.....the front Seven... A lock for the pro bowl...most of them are just jealous of Spragan's lack of a felony conviction..
-
I am an idiot...thanks for calling me on it Fake :-) Typed without thinking... Spragan would be good depth...flexible with weakside or strongside...Stanford educated...31 years old by the time the season starts and a proven special teams guy.. Here is his scouting report from Scouts.com Spragan has good size, strength and plays with a high motor. He is versatile enough to play either outside spot and contribute as a core special team player. He has enough functional strength to set the edge. He has above-average slide and lateral mobility. He can avoid and play through trash fairly well. He has some pursuit range and closing speed off the back side. He is a strong tackler in the box. He can open his hips and get to underneath drops in coverage. He has some anticipation as a blitzer. But Spragan lacks ideal power, agility and suddenness. He isn't a physical take-on player. His stack-and-shed isn't very explosive. He gets stuck on blocks when setting the edge and has a hard time finding the ball. He struggles to protect his lower half. He is a little stiff and lacks ideal range and stop-and-restart ability. He struggles to avoid blockers and make plays on the blitz.

I heard Schobel is dropping down to 203 and taking Nate's slot. He's hanging with Kirstie Alley at Jenny Craig. Kirstie is thinking about Nose Tackle.
-
Damn Schobel -- have a pizza at Tim Anderson's pizza shop...If Langston Walker can move at all -- he will be very tough to get around...Very long arms too...he and Pennington are going to have a battle...it will be fun to see that one develop.

Thanks for posting. You are calling a player who has missed 17 of the past 32 games and is still recovering from an injury that less than a 1/4 of those who suffer it return to any semblance of their former self a better player than a guy who has missed three games in 5 years and is fourth in sacks out of all DT's in the NFL over that span. Just checking to see if you realize that. Were you Rocky Balboa's sparring partner or just the side of beef hanging in the slaughter house? How many times has Sal been demoted at ESPN...its got to be double digits now....he covers the eagles and chess I think...

Interesting read...Flunked out of Tennessee (which as a football player has to be a really hard thing to do)..but seems to have found his way... There aren't many 340 lb NT's in this draft... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft07/news/story?id=2813421

By your choice of avatar I can tell you are a woman of fine taste, with an elegant style and classic, timeless beauty.... -
The 11th pick is almost mid-round--just don't think AJ would go for it...the value chart would put this at about the 3rd pick in the second round..who knows? AJ holds most of the cards..but he does risk losing Turner for nothing in a year.... The other thing is that if the PFW writer is correct--we would have to beat the Browns-and their second is higher--we have to get above them to get him..
-
I could even live with a swap of firsts and their late fourth...gives us a 1 (30), 2(43), 3 (74), 3 (92), 4 (111), 4 (129), 6, 7, 7..and saves us money...and values Turner as a very high second which is where I think they are now...

http://www.buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=4683 From Former College Teammate Peerless Price Walker's former college teammate at Tennessee Peerless Price affirms that Walker will blend in nicely with what the Bills do defensively. "We're getting a guy that's going to penetrate the gaps because he's so strong and get after the quarterback," said Price. "I know at Tennessee he wreaked havoc. Playing that three-technique is his bread and butter." Price says Walker's strength borders on the freakish. "When I was at school with Darwin and we'd do our strength and conditioning tests at the end of spring practice they would always stop him on the bench press," said Price. "They would get scared that he was going to hurt himself. He'd be benching up in the high 550s and 560s and since they had never seen anyone that strong they'd just tell him to stop. He's by far the strongest guy I've ever played with."

I agree Sketch..no way on the first...I would say our early third and next year's third or fourth....plus have to extend him for at least 3 more years...

Mike, Fallbrook, CA: In light of the Shaub deal between then Falcons and Texans, You have to believe that Chargers G.M. A.J. Smith is going to shop Michael Turner for the best price he can get before the draft; he says the phones have been ringing and I still feel that the Packers, Bills or Browns will step up with a creative and fair offer; AJ loves young talent and will not let him walk away next season without any compensation; Trent Modglin: (4:03 PM ET ) Funny Mike, I actually just put a call into Turner's agent right before I logged on to see what was going on. Unfortunately, I got his voice mail. However, I think AJ Smith will have to listen to deals that will come in the weeks leading up to the draft, especially if a first-round pick is involved for a backup RB he's likely to lose next season anyway. I hear that the Bills, Packers and Browns are most interested, in that order. Interesting....

From Pro Football Weekly - Spikes Trade
JoeF replied to OnTheRocks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Its an okay assessment. But I still think it misses the point. We came into the offseason with 2 main priorities... 1) Improve the O-Line-specifically needed to upgrade every position but LT --not being able to upgrade all 4 positions (no team could have 5 studs) -- we decided to focus on two of the weakest.. LG-we want to build a strong left side to give us a go to side to run RT-we want to be able to use the TE more in the passing game We did both and it will make Fowler a better center -- he will have help on almost every play and now our weak spot is RG--which there are several development candidates. An upgraded OL takes pressure off the Defense -- more first downs, time of possession, better completion percentage, less drive killing negative plays, etc. 2) Get better at run D. This is still a work in progress--but Marv and Coach Jauron both said the LB's did not attack enough. We kept the two LB's that arguably attacked the best (Crowell and Ellison) and now must find two more in the draft or what's left of Free Agency. While I wish it was us talking to Briggs instead of the Skins -- I think we will be okay here-- We also needed to upgrade the D-Line--Walker does this--he partners with Tripplett at the 3 and allows Williams and McCargo to focus on the Nose--Tim Anderson has to either improve or get cut..and I still think we add a big development body in the draft We drafted a replacement for Clements last year -- but still need a player from the draft who can get on the field this year at the CB position--there are about 10 serviceable corners in the draft--I like our chances of getting one or even two of them. We got rid of players that for one reason or another did not fit the system, either because of their expense relative to their criticality in the scheme (Clements); attitude and work ethic (McGahee) or skill (Holcomb, Spikes and Fletcher)...we brought in guys (Dockery, L. Walker, D. Walker, Whittle) who fit the plan. We are a contributing RB, a SAM and Mike LB, A contributing Corner away from filling these holes..and having some play in the draft--we don't need 6 defensive starters from this draft--we need one or two... I have written before--my biggest concern is Fletcher's leadership..Spikes flashed great play in Baltimore--but he was still pulled on most third downs--and we still lost the freaking game because our O-line (particularly the interior OL) got the sh-- kicked out of it....Marv and Coach learned the lesson well. -
Levy, Job Well Done and Other Random Thoughts

Are you two picking out China yet? Bill--you still on a March 3rd high? Its nice to see that the thing you have been harping on for the better part of the last decade gets addressed in one day. To find a dominant LT in undrafted free agency is the highlight of the TD era... -
Your digital media skills are quite advanced. Careful--if your salary gets too high, the Marv ax may fall....

All good points Kelly...just like the OL -- overload and win the line battle on both sides of the ball. We have lots of flexibility now-- Look at our needs.. RB -- a share the load guy with Thomas SAM LB- need a starter here CB-someone who can compete for field time this year as a starter or dime 3rd QB FB-Fairchild likes more of an H -- so Cieslak can fit the bill -- but I really like Brian Leonard and Jason Snelling MLB or WLB-need to reload the position Maybe we bring in Joey Harrington at vet min....didn't we have a poster who was obsessed with Harrington during that draft.. -

I think RB is the most likely...I guess we weren't all that enamored with Okoye or Branch
