  1. Gotta love it. Union won't approve without "concessions".

There is nothing I see where it hurts the rank and file. It would be a win for fans and players. It would create more excitement for fans of contending teams. If a player was on IR and could come back off, you would think that would be a win for the player. But improving the game or making it better for the players is irrelevant unless there are "concessions".

  2. Ralph Wilson stadium is among the largest stadiums in the league. This 100% and now above 85% percent blackout rule is still crap. It should be set at 90 or 95% of the smallest capacity stadium in the league, for all teams. Why should each team be held to a different standard?

Should ticket prices be the same also? In other words do you recommend Dallas, New Jersey or Washington average seat prices? Why should Buffalo have among the average lowest ticket price?

  3. I have a friend who is a die-hard Pats* fan. He read some book that claimed that the Giants gameplan was to let Thurman run like crazy because they figured it was their only chance of staying in the game.

Your friend is correct. The Giants gameplan was to stop the pass at all costs. They even had defensive linemen in two point stances. The Bills were badly outcoached and should have run the ball down the Giants throat until they changed their defensive scheme.

  4. everyone's relieved, as am i, that johnson signed, but it really does show what a mess the bills are. we now have $17 million (what will it wind up being, 15% of the cap?) tied up in two 7th round draft picks that are our "marquis" players

and how much are we going to sink into undrafted freddy jackson?

is there any other team forced to pay that much into players of this caliber? i mean, god bless'em both..they are our boys and all...but it just shows what a disaster the bills are.

don't get your hopes up kids.

Does on the field performance mean anything to you? By your reasoning the Patriots are overpaying Brady.

  5. Corrected

I do agree it would be awesome to have someone considered for all pro.

The point is you don't get rid of solid players (Johnson and Schoebel) because you are searching for the all pro. Get the proven all pro first and then let the other player go. Schoebel and Johnson are both very good. Bell is decent. If the Bills could go back in time and draft Mike Williams again, should they let Bell go?

Winning teams have all pros and role players. Think of Phil Hansen, Pete Metzelaars, Jim Richter, Don Beebe. Many of the posters on this board would trash them because "we need to upgrade the position".

  6. Bell is a decent backup and nothing more. I don't like his strength at the point of attack at all. We have gotten so used to projects that he seems better than he is. Much like Johnson and Schobel

Would be great to have an all pro at every position.

  7. you don't pay #2 WR's that kind of money, esp those who have the attitude and drops that he has. Put a transition tag on him (New CBA Gave us it back I believe?) and look for some real talent or get him to accept a #2 WR paycheck

To correct the idea of just transition him with the inference that the move will save money.

Here are the Franchise/Transition tag numbers for 2010 along with highest paid for each position. Can't find 2011, most likely due to no NFL contract this year.

    CB: $9.6 million/$8.1 million (Champ Bailey, $13.2M)

    DE: $12.4 million/$10.2 million (Julius Peppers, $16.7M)

    DT: $7 million/$6.4 million (Tommie Harris, $8.6M)

    LB: $9.7 million/$8.4 million (DeMarcus Ware, $11.4M)

    OL: $10.7 million/$9.1 million (Joe Staley, $13.5M)

    P/K: $2.8 million/$2.6 million (Shane Lechler, $3.1M)

    QB: $16.4 million/$14.6 million (Peyton Manning, $21.2M)

    RB: $8.2 million/$7.2 million (Reggie Bush, $10.6M)

    S: $6.5 million/$6 million (Adrian Wilson, $7M)

    TE: $5.9 million/$5.2 million (Dallas Clark, $6.8M)

    WR: $9.5 million/$8.7 million (Larry Fitzgerald, $10.9M

I could be wrong but I doubt salaries have digressed much, if at all.

Also for those who say teams have to spend to cap starting this year (2012)- WRONG. It is 2013.

  8. He has a good cast around him. Congrats to him.

Think if the Bills hung on to all their average players who go to other teams and play well. (Due totally to the good cast around them.) Might actually have an average team that makes the playoffs periodically. What a novel idea.

  9. as long as he comes cheap, otherwise, f'em. Hes not fast, only has ok size, but questionable hands and hes immature. Id be happy to keep him though, hes still good, just not great. I remember a guy who had great hands, awesome speed, and never did or said one wrong thing. Also caught about 5 tiems as many td's as johnson has in his career and we just gave him away. Do i need to say his name?

If you havent noticed yet, stevies a great number 2.

If you haven't noticed yet, Revis is still looking for his jock. Unless a Megatron is availanle, Steve is a number 1.

Talking about maturity - Does anyone remember how mature Kelly was year one and two? How about Bruce? How about Thurman?

The guy you are talking about is old. This team is building. Before all the injuries, the collection of receivers the Bills had was doing pretty well.

  10. The defence hasn't kept us from the playoffs. Having an offence that spots the opponents more points then it can put up is whats keeping this team down. They will ride out the season with Edwarsd as the DC, and then at the end of the year he will be let go and everyone will get their wish with the 'stache getting the position.

They won't let Gailey go, the only way he goes is if he steps down at the end of the season and retires, which is possible and it will mean another re-build starts again

What is the "Stache" doing now? I could not agree more that Edwards has to go, but Wannstedt has apparently not contributed anything of value. It seems to me we need to replace the entire defensive staff.

  11. I would love 5-0 but I do not seee the spark in this team anymore.

Injuries and lack of depth will be the story of the season.

Last weeks game against the Jets looks to be the summary of the season. Not enough gas in the tank. No Freddie, no Kyle, no pass rush, limited blockers, few viable NFL targets.

We need Buddy to be a proactive GM and fill some holes.

I couldn't disagree more. I was at the game last week and there was a lot of spark in this team.

The effort was there and the Bills should have won. Remember they were playing the Jets, who match up well against the Bills, in NJ. My opinion is if they play like last week, at least 4 of the games are winnable and if the Patriots are not playing for anything in week 17, who knows.

Sure it would take some breaks, but I wouldn't bet against it.

  12. People mentioned Benett and Lofton, but neither of them played a whole lot their first year here. It took a year and an off-season for them to figure things out.

Bennet came to Buffalo in 1987. He played 8 games, started 7 and had 8.5 sacks with 69 tackles and 5 forced fumbles. Define "played a whole lot".

I'll bet Polian wished he waited until the next spring to make that trade.

FYI - The next season he started 16 games with 9.5 sacks. He really figured it out, didn't he.

  13. See Cornelius Bennet. Realize not a wide receiver but how did that work out?

The Bills have many injured receivers. If a team can pick someone up who can be a team player and fit in, why not spend a 4th round pick? Is italways better to bring someone in off another team's practice squad or might it be better to bring in a veteran who has been there before?

  14. We are not on the team so we are allowed to look ahead. And be overly optimistic. Based upon how they are playing and how the opponents are looking I think the following is very possible. Maybe an additional loss to Washington, Dallas or one of the Jets games, but otherwise 13-3!

    NY Giants w

    Sun. Oct. 23 BYE

    WASHINGTON* w

    NY JETS w

    at Dallas w

    at Miami w

    at NY Jets w

    TENNESSEE w

    at San Diego L

    MIAMI w

    DENVER w

    at New England L

Seriously I am concerned about the two Jet games. In the first they have a bye the week before. In the second we are playing the third road game in a row - usually not a good thing.

The Jets really couldn't have asked for a better schedule as it relates to the Bills.

  15. Im glad some people decided to lay it on her. Some of the responses she quoted were funny. As life long Bills fans, we catch heat from everyone, all of the time.

She read all of reasonable responses, and decided not to post any of them. What's new? Columnists are always pushing their agenda. Journalism died a long time ago.

She looks like she got beat in the face with a hot bag of nickles.

Just to let you and other people who do not live in the Albany area, there were two well written and thought out responses in last Sundays paper on page 3 in the sports section. So the paper did not just cherry pick the lame moronic responses listed in today's paper. As an fyi, the Sunday paper has the largest circulation.

As a life long Bill's fan we have been catching heat. Not hard to understand when the Bills don't make the playoffs for 12 years. But trust me people who attack her with the vulgar words used or attacking her looks show a total lack of class and do not represent the majority of Bill's fans.

  16. The NFL does a great job of game scheduling. They know how to keep the whole league interesting from the start of the season to the end of the season.

Had we played Oakland and NE away we would have lost both games.

The season is young and the entire league is designed to get more and more interesting as the season progresses.

    Again, Kudos to the NFL.

What do you base your premise on? Is that really your opinion or are you trying (and succeeding) to be a total ignoramous?

  17. Are you sure Bills fans in Albany didn't start this little tiff - a long time ago? And maybe the newspaper finally got fed up?

That's the impression I get from reading the article.

Why go where you're not wanted?

Could you explain what you mean? I have lived in the Albany area for 19 years, originally from Lancaster, and don't get your point.

  18. 8 pm. In the past the team drafting first could negotiate with their pick. As I understand with the lockout, that is not possible now.

When exactly is the first pick going on the clock 7:30 or 8?

Also is there anyway we will know the first pick before the draft starts? I thought at one point in time the first pick has been leaked?

    Thanks

  19. This is unfortunately not true. Syracuse stations do get blacked out as well. You have to be almost as far east as Albany, as far north as Watertown, or as far south as Binghampton to avoid the stupid black out.

The Jets game is on in Albany. Not the Bills. Ravenswood in Clifton Park is the place to see the Bills game.
