  1. Check out this article about distribution of "white power CD's" by hate groups: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6542890/site/newsweek/ Don't these people have a life? Do they really have such low self-esteem that they have to go around hating people they don't even know? Also, this is 2004, not 1904. NO ONE is going to let these people go around killing or harrassing them, including me. There are some reports of the CD's surfacing in the Philly area, but I haven't seen any. F____kin' pathetic LOSERS.
  2. The Ecstasy, of course, is the Bills upset over the dreaded Jets. The Agony is the Iggles' sound thrashing by the dreaded Stillers. Well, I guess you can't have everything!
  3. But he didn't win Pennsylvania, probably because the turnout in Democratic Philadelphia and Pittsburgh was so huge.
  4. I am a case manager with "retards" and most of them are very nice people. In contrast, you, sir, are a jerk.
  5. I don't know where you live, but here in Philadelphia there are relatively few integrated houses of worship. Also, I am not the spokesperson for all African Americans, just for myself. I don't like being told to vote for someone just because they are a Democrat, and Democrats are "for" blacks. I think there are good people in both parties. Arlen Spector is a powerful Republican who has spoken out against racial profiling and has a good record on issues of concern to many African Americans, yet his challenger, Joe Hoeffel, whose career in the House has been undistinguished, will probably get the lion's share of the black vote because he is a Democrat. That's why I'm an independent.
  6. I am sick of this election hype too, for some of your reasons and some different ones. For one, I am really tired of the way the Dems take the African American vote for granted - they don't even have to earn it. As my little niece would sa: [ I resent being told who to vote for. As my little niece would say, YOU'RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME! I am also tired of seeing Kerry in black churches. In big cities like Philadelphia, the African American churches are basically a subsidiary of the Democratic party. DoesKerry ever go to white houses of worship? If Bush went to a white Catholic or conservative Christ church, the media would scream bloody murder. I believe in keeping religion and politics separate. That said, I am not a fan of Bush. However, I don't think all the problems in the African American community are due to Washington policies. With Nader off the ballot here, I feel like staying home, but I not. I'm just going to vote for some local politicians I like and then go to work. May the best candidate win.
  7. Yes, I am wondering if that will be a factor here in PA. I am going to vote at 7:00 when the polls open. It's supposed to rain later in the day, when most people vote. I think people will go out in a drizzle, but not a full-fledged thunderstorm. We'll see.
  8. Here's the odds on the election from America's Line, a sports betting website: http://www.americasline.com/ (click on "The Big Event"). I know what "even" means, but what does -120 mean? Yes, I flunked statistics!
  9. Well put. They still get along, but my daughter just said that she thinks Bush is comparable to Hitler! Now, that's a little too much!
  10. Funny you should say that . . . when I was at the (People's) University of Pennsylvania many of the professors openly ridiculed Bush. They encouraged the students to do so as well. I'm not a big Bush fan, but I thought this was disrepectful. These were mostly the liberal arts profs; the science and economics profs were a bit more conservative. This wouldn't be a problem if more conservative views were tolerated, but at many colleges and universities they aren't. My daughter's high school is very good academically. I've always encouraged her to think for herself, no matter what her teachers and classmates say, which she does -- for example, many of her classmates went to the "March for Women's Lives" last spring, and she is pro-life. She's a good kid (she's not really "mad" at her father, just annoyed).
  11. My 16 year old is not speaking to her father -- why? Because he's voting for Bush. She goes to the creative and performing arts high school here. Both the faculty and students are very liberal -- there are alot of gay kids there (male and female). The teachers talk openly about their support for Kerry, and even put up pro-Kerry signs in their classrooms. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, but if the teachers were pro-Bush, would this be tolerated? Remember, this is still a public school. I work around the University of Pennsylvania, and the place is festooned with Kerry signs. Most of the students there are pro-Kerry, even though there is an active Republican group on campus. I really think if someone walked around with a Bush button on, they'd be harrssed. In fact, if you walked around this area, you'd get the impression that all of Pennsylvania hated Bush. We'll see . . .
  12. If this tape is legit, it really is scary -- what strikes me is that the "American" has a Jewish name, Pearlman. I wonder what made him convert to Islam? What made him hate the U.S. so much? Then again, maybe I don't want to know . . .
  13. Well, the cat-haters are only joking -- aren't you, cat haters?
  14. This article proves that "cats are people," too -- prone to stress, just like we are! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/3956833.stm
  15. My daughter said her friend saw Michael Vick on television saying he was gay (not that there's anything wrong with that! ) Did anybody hear anything about this or is it just a rumor? Remember I got this information from two 15 year olds . . .
  16. At least according to this poll: http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselect...atodaypolls.htm
  17. You have some good points there, NG. My son has ADHD. Without his Adderall he would be out of control. He still is a handful, but his meds take the edge off. Anyone who thinks ADHD is a "fake" disease needs to spend the day with an unmedicated 13 year old with this disorder, and they'll change their mind fast! I am grateful to researchers such as yourself who spent countless frustrating hours developing these drugs, which have changed many lives for the better. On the other hand, sometimes natural remedies work as well as conventional drug therapies. Being of a "certain age," I am experiencing hot flashes, etc. -- not fun. My doc wanted to put me on estrogen therapy, which I was very reluctant to try. I read a book about natural remedies for menopausal symptoms, and tried changes in my diet (including soy products) and some herbal supplements, and my symptoms decreased dramatically. Also, my dad is a pharmacist (retired) and so is my sister (she works in S. Jersey). I was going to be one too, until I flunked out of The Dreaded Organic Chemistry. Don't B word at the pharmacists about drug prices, especially those who work in the large drugstore chains, because they don't have any control over setting them!
  18. Not long ago I mentioned that I was looking for a house and had been preapproved for a loan at 5.75 percent. Someone mentioned that with mortgage loans "every percentage point counts." This comment inspired me to look for a lower rate. I was able to find a program for first time homebuyers (with good credit) at the rate of 5.37 percent -- NO POINTS! Unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding houses in my price range, because they are snapped up immediately. And with houses slightly above my price range, it's difficult to negotiate, because sellers want and can get their full asking price. It truly is a seller's market out there. Anyway, next time I make a major decision, I am going to ask myself WWBFD -- What Would Bills Fans Do? * * Note: I meant this remark to be humorous -- I hope I didn't offend anyone's religious beliefs.
  19. This rapper doesn't speak for everyone. I cried after 911. People of all races and nationalities died that day. One of the copilots on one of the planes was African American, and at least one flight attendant was Asian. This person is channeling his anger in the wrong direction.
  20. . . .he doesn't give up easily. Despite the fact that most African Americans dislike him (to put it mildly), the Republicans are running as on "urban" radio stations here and in other large markets. Either that, or the Republicans are just plain stupid!
  21. I'm not sure, I will have to check. Yes, location is important. My brother lives in San Diego and he says the housing prices are very high.
  22. Sorry, I forgot to write my post . . . What's this about wood?
  23. I am looking for a house -- probably a twin or a rowhouse. The median price for a home here is $168K, which is about my price range. Yet every time I tell my realtor I'm interested in a property, it's already been sold, sometimes in a matter of days My question is: can the economy really be as bad as the Democrats say when the housing market, at least here in the Philadelphia area, is still robust? Is housing a leading or lagging indicator? Also, I was preapproved for a loan at 5.75 percent. Is that a good rate, or should I shop around some more?
