I agree in the short term. It was an unlikely outcome of success.

However, the Bills should have never been in that predictiment.

So it cuts both ways here. McD deserves blame and credit. I think a lot depends on what happens this Sunday.

A loss will likely cause many Bills fans to be disappointed with McD. Similar to what Dallas and Pitt fans are saying and feeling about McCarthy and Tomlin.

A win vs KC and an AFC championship game is likely seen as a successful season win or lose.

After the Denver loss I was off the McD train. After 13 seconds I couldn’t contemplate having 12 men on the field that cost us the game. After the last 6 games I’m firmly back on (I never thought he would be fired even at 6-6)

McD should be up for coach of the year. He took a team that was floundering mid season at 6-6 and took a tremendous PR shot from the Dunn hit piece then completely turned the team around mid season. He’s showed tremendous growth which he always preaches. More aggressive defense, better game management especially on 4th down, and better challenge success. After the loss of Tre/Milano/Jones the D took a while to find its footing yet finished STRONG with backups to the backups making plays. The offense was struggling and he fired the OC mid season which couldn’t have been easy and installed a guy who turned it around. Yeah, you can say he deserves some of the blame for Dorsey but give me a break. Last year guys on here were worried he’d be poached for a HC gig.

This team is tough, gritty, battle hardened, and peaking at the right time ( as opposed to last year where they peaked early and limped into the playoffs)

I don’t think the result of this coming game diminishes in any way what McD has accomplished this season. Yeah, we need to get the monkey off our back but there are so many variables that go into one game, that doesn’t discount the previous 6 that saved the season and won us the division. Sure if we get blown out or there’s another 13 second coaching blunder that’s going to be an issue, but to lose to KC in a tight game will suck but not be an indictment on the coach.

I'm feeling very ominous about this game. I don't view that things are lined up all that well other than Josh had a great game and we're at home. I want someone to give me reason to feel better about this matchup other than anything can happen.

Getting Johnson back would be HUGE. He’s the #1 guy I want back even before Bernard.

Douglas and Dodson are going to play, I think Benford, Bernard and Rapp are out (or severely limited in the case of Bernard)

So we have enough guys to run the 4-2-5 and also switch up to the Dime with Poyer in the box and Lewis over the top in Rapp’s position.

The key on defense is to 1) Stop the run 2) Keep Mahomes in the pocket. I think we can do this with our D-line. KC’s strength is in the middle of their line, so if our guys can get a little push or hold their own our DE’s in a contained rush can collapse the pocket on their average tackles and force Mahomes to step up instead of escape out. At the same time, if they aren’t rushing balls-to-the-wall on non-obvious passing downs they can play Pacheco better and keep our LBs clean. Combine this with a spy who either takes Pacheco out of the backfield or spy’s Mahomes if he stays in.  There are ways to play leverage on Kelce and the WRs to close the middle of the field and force things outside. Yeah, Mahomes can definitely make those throws but they are more difficult and you can use the sidelines to limit YAC.

On offense, Josh is starting to peak at the right time. Brady has developed an offense that isn’t 100% dependent on Josh, he doesn’t have to be perfect to win. Obviously limiting TOs is #1, but I think the key is for us to be a ball control offense. Run the sht out of it, KC’s defense is not great against the run. Continue to take what’s given like Josh has been doing. Have an answer to the zero blitz which we’ve seen happen the last few games and against Pittsburgh. Run the ball, drain the clock, limit Mahomes possessions and capitalize on ours. I think we have the team to do this against KC. If Josh keeps playing like he did against Pitt we win.

  3. I’d take advantage of their LBs which are the weak point, and Spags always has at least 1, often 2 spies on Allen. There has to be a way to exploit that to our advantage.

I’d run the ball down their throats, play ball control and keep Mahomes off the field. Take shots when they are available but that’s not our bread and butter.

Cook, Kincaid, and Shakir should feast over the middle. That’s where we win.

  4. So many of you posters whine more than the Fins fans on Finheaven about the weather. It’s really shocking, we used to live for these games.

It’s clear many have no idea how the Steelers have been winning game recently. Guess what, this isn’t Franco Harris’ Steelers coming to town.

The Steelers have been running well but they’ve been winning with BIG PASS PLAYS. Rudolph has been hitting Pickens DEEP in every game. Guess what the wind is going to interrupt? Oh that’s right, DEEP PASSES. Mason Rudolph does not have a rocket arm.

We have a just as good (statistically better) running game, a better passing game, and a QB who can run and has an arm cannon. Josh has already demonstrated multiple times he can throw in the wind, which is why I don’t understand all the boo-hooing going on. Between Allen and Ruduolph who will have more success in the wind? Jesus. Our receivers who can’t separate are going to have a helluva easier time getting separation on a snowy surface than they do now.

I know I’m in the minority but I think the weather is at worst a wash and may even favor us because we have Josh and they don’t. We do NOT have a deep passing game anymore. That was last year. We run the ball and throw short/intermediate passes. That’s PERFECT for this type of game.

It’s the Playoffs. In Buffalo. Against Pittsburgh. In the Snow.

It does not get any better than this

I saw a rumor that there’s a team in the playoffs secretly ready to go after Belichick. I’m 99% sure it’s the Bills.

Zero percent chance McD is gone

Less than zero percent chance The Hoodie ends up in Buffalo

  6. The weather talk here has reached peak BBFS levels. I’m getting depressed reading the constant belly-aching.

Who cares if it’s windy? We don’t have a downfield passing offense anymore. We have a short/intermediate passing game with a strong running game. That’s PERFECT for windy conditions. We have JOSH ALLEN who has already proved again and again that he can throw in the wind. Why is everyone so worried about that?

Play the run first, double Pickens, confuse Rudolph (who McD should own)

Run the ball, use Josh’s legs, emphasize the short/intermediate game, get Diggs involved early.

  7. Oh, we are worrying about the weather again. Second only to the lame nick-name threads for the latest UDFA who does something in camp.

The only effect the wind will have is on deep throws, as we already know Josh can cut through the wind on the short/intermediate routes. His deep balls have sucked this year, so I’m not too worried about not being able to over/underthrow Diggs by 3 yards a couple times a game.

Wind/snow or not, we know Pitt is going to try and run the ball so we have to have a plan for that no matter what.

We need to emphasize the quick short passing game, try to run the ball ourselves and play action the ***** out of them.

Don't think (and certainly hope so as well) that Brady has earned the spot already.

The odds of the best man available for the position just happened to be already on staff in Buffalo are about ZERO.

But b/c of McDimwit who will always put himself and his career ahead of all other things, he'll want to retain someone like Brady b/c he won't offer any opposition to MCDimwith in the locker room.

There will probably be a good OC become available....hire that a guy.

There could be firings concerning teams in the playoffs. Give it some time.

I agree with Brady not being handed the OC position. I think he’s in a really good spot but how he does in the playoffs will determine whether he gets a chance to install his own offense instead of running the Daboll/Dorsey system.

I was off the McD train after Denver, I thought that having 12 men on the field was a 13 second level of incompetence but I was willing to give him the rest of the year to see if he showed that growth mindset he always talks about. Also, even after Denver I always felt there was a zero percent chance he’d be fired by Pegula.

I’m back on the McD train. His patchwork defense has been playing lights out for the last 5 games, closing out games we were previously losing.

He’s been extremely aggressive offensively in a targeted manner, just not “Go for it on every 4th down”.

There’s no way you can look at any videos of this team since the Dunne article and think he was ever close to losing the locker room. Guys don’t rally around their coach like that, guys don’t play this hard every game for each other if they don’t believe in the coach and themselves.

Why do we need a DC? Seems like after a rocky first half of the season McD is doing a great job calling the plays, the defense has been balling out even missing so many guys. When guy go down, backups come in and play solid (maybe not spectacular but the depth players are obviously ready to go and play hard).

  9. What a Win.

I put this up there with the perfect game against the Pats* because I f’n hate Miami just as much and their fans are the most delusional in the NFL

We kept every single narrative in play - 1) Josh owns Miami 2) Hardrock is really Highmark South 3) Miami can’t beat good teams 4) Tua isn’t a franchise QB (they will pay him like one though) 5) Buffalo owns the East

There’s been enough game analysis, I’ll just say Joshua F’n Allen is the heart and soul of this team and he leads from the front. Pure warrior.

I love the way this team is coming together at the right time. We aren’t even playing our best football and beating every team in front of us.

We have a very realistic chance at a Super Bowl. If Josh cleans things up (not just TOs but missing gimme TD’s) and some of our skill players make the plays that are there to be made (James Cook), we can beat anyone easily. If we get more self inflicted wounds this team can still win but the chances of a bad bounce, bad call, or bad turnover bouncing us out of the playoffs becomes much more likely.

  10. We can all see that Diggs has been taking himself off the field a lot over the last 5 or 6 games outside of the plays where Brady doesn’t have him on the field. There are only 2 reasons he would remove himself from the game

    1) He’s dinged up

    2) He’s quitting on the team

Anyone here think Diggs is quitting on the team? IDK, I’ve seen nothing but professionalism from him during his time in Buffalo. Yeah, he’s got some WR diva in him no doubt, can be demonstrative on the sidelines, and there’s been some friction behind the scenes, but I can’t wrap my head around Diggs just quitting on his team. I could be 100% wrong, and god knows I don’t want to believe Diggs is a quitter. I think we will know a lot more after Sunday night.

If he’s truly dealing with an injury enough to the point where he’s barely out-snapping rotational WR’s, why is he practicing in full?

If we’re limiting snaps, it seems it would be wise for him to take it easy at practice.

Maybe it’s not something that can heal with rest like that, but if it is an injury, it’s clearly affecting his ability to play a normal snap percentage.

I agree with you, but I was responding to a poster who said we’d get in trouble with the league which is not accurate.

McBeane are experts at revealing the least amount of information they need to about pretty much every aspect of the team, injuries especially. They want teams to scheme against Diggs likes he’s 100% which opens things up for other players. I’m sure most DCs can see what’s going on with Diggs and will scheme accordingly but McD isn’t going to give them any extra help/info if he can avoid it.

Obviously I’m just speculating like everyone else. We’ve got a lot of history with Diggs though, so unless we think he all-of-a-sudden checked out, isn’t giving his all, or slammed into the Father Time wall in the Jax game, I think the combo of him being dinged up/Josh’s shoulder/Brady run game emphasis explains a lot of what we are seeing. I don’t think this is a behind-the-scenes Diggs vs Buffalo drama that is playing out. I think its the war of attrition that is the game of football along with a new OC emphasizing the run.

I think Brady knows he needs Diggs to be more involved to make it to the playoffs and make a run when we are there. I expect to see it start Sunday

  12. It’s multi-factorial but I’ll preface this with my opinion that Diggs is the ultimate competitor, a consummate professional who’s not afraid to display his emotions on a sleeve.

That being said, if Diggs wasn’t dinged up, there is ZERO possibility that he’s taking himself out of the game as much as he has. There’s no chance we wouldn’t see the displays of frustration we’ve seen for years when he feels he’s good to go and isn’t getting utilized. I think Diggs knows he isn’t 100%, takes himself off when he feels another player would be better on the following play, and understands his production is down because he hasn’t been able to get the same separation he usually gets.

Obviously Brady has schemed more into the running attack. Diggs is a willing blocker but if he’s dinged they aren’t going to use him for that which is why his snap counts have decreased as well.

Also since the Giants game, Josh’s shoulder has been an issue. When’s the last time you saw him step into a throw and laser it over the middle on an intermediate crosser? (Seriously I can’t remember so if I’m wrong let me know). That’s Diggs’ bread and butter. Our passing game has been outside the numbers and Josh’s deep throws have been mostly inaccurate. The deep throws he does make tend to be arcing throws rather than laser beams. There are numerous examples where Diggs is open on the crosser and Josh takes the dump off. I’ve gotta believe it’s because Josh doesn’t trust his velocity right now.

Despite all that, Diggs is still getting the same number of targets per game although much less further down the field.

This Miami game is going to tell us a lot. I hope it’s not just the optimist in me but I thought Diggs was moving a little better in the Pats* game. I’m concerned Josh’s shoulder is going to be the limiting factor but I expect a BIG game from Diggs

  13. Guys - watch the All-22 of the New England game.

McGovern and Torrance SUCKED in pass pro, Morse wasn’t much better.

Our interior O-line was getting blown up on the regular, it was absolutely ridiculous how bad our guards got destroyed by Pats* DTs

I don’t think Josh has been as mechanically sound or reading the field as good as he has in the past. But against NE, he was pressured up the middle early and often and that will 100% affect the timing in your head as the game progresses.

  14. Physicality - that’s how we beat the Lolphins again.

We can talk about all the scheme all you want, but if every player legally knocks the sht out of them on both sides of the ball we will win comfortably.

Miami is a weak, soft, finesse team like we used to be. I think it’s obvious we’ve toughened up. We can bully them for 4 quarters and demoralize them.

This is a big game for Brady from a perspective of keeping the OC title long term. The 49ers and Ravens killed Miami by targeting their linebackers and utilizing the middle of the field. We haven’t been doing that at all, and this is the perfect opportunity to break our tendency to play outside the numbers and work the middle. James Cook needs to be utilized as a receiver in this game - Miami can’t handle pass catching running backs. There’s ZERO reason we shouldn’t exploit this. Diggs/Kincaid/Shakir should all have success over the middle with these LBs in zone or man. Who knows, maybe Knox will even show up if they pay too much attention to everyone else.

I hope to see Diggs more involved and on the field more. I’d put him all over the formation, put him in motion so see who’s covering, and exploit the best matchup from that information. Diggs in the slot over the middle would be great to see. Less Sherfield, more Diggs/Kincaid/Davis/Shakir.

Bench Murray, activate Playoff Lenny and use him to pound Miami.

On defense, it’s all about pressure with 4 guys with the occasional 5 or 6 man pressure. Teams have not been blitzing Miami and having great success against their garbage O-line. If we can get consistent pressure with 4 Tua is going to get rattled like he always does. IDK what McD has done to limit Tyreek in the past 6 games we’ve played against him but keep it up. What we have to do is make Miami be methodical and not give up the big Tyreek TD that he can score on any down.

Appreciate the context and does describe why i was hearing different things (will need replacement vs should be good).  if you saying post career hell for sure need knee replacement i think thats different than what he is saying.

i agree he does a lot of simple research on how the team treats injuries ("in Mcd's tenure we dont see them come back from hamstrings quick"), but the timelines for return as well as likelihood of return to full performance should be published.  I would expect both of you to be able to do that literature review and come to similar conclusions.  that might not be too helpful for me, but helps me greatly.

He does a fine job describing the usual course of recovery from an injury once he knows what the actually injury is. I find that helpful too. Unfortunately the Bills are very tight with medical information so he has to do a lot of speculation on the type of injury and that’s where he struggles because he’s not an orthopod. The result is a lot of speculation (Like Josh’s elbow injury last year) and a lot of “If it’s this, he will play next week. If it’s that, he’s out for the season. Let’s see if he practices”.
